      Hi. They’re made by Wera and are excellent quality. Expensive but worth it, in my view products.wera.de/en/l-keys.html

    Can you refil the oil inside the gold reservoir? mine reaches the limit and then i hear a clunck sound. when i hit a bumb and my bike restores height.

    • @Greeves
      @Greeves  Před 2 lety

      I’m no expert but my upstanding is that the gold reservoir primarily contains nitrogen gas under pressure. There’s a piston inside that separates the gas from oil that’s forced across from the main damper unit as it operates. So the gas provides part of the spring function as well as keeping pressure on the oil to reduce cavitation. So most of the oil lives in the main damper leg. Replacing, or replenishing the oil (or nitrogen) is not an end user task and will require special equipment. It sounds as if yours may have lost some oil, or gas and need professional attention.

      @@Greeves if i unscrew the cap at the gold reservoir, wil there be compression? So stuf ahoots out?

    • @Greeves
      @Greeves  Před 2 lety

      @@SikkeTiemersma If you look at the video 7:10 mins in; removing the screw at the top of the reservoir does release a small amount of gas. Not dangerous though. Once this is done the whole reservoir may be unscrewed with nothing else escaping (see 09:24). The gold reservoir looks to be sealed for life and probably contains gas under pressure below a floating piston. I wouldn't recommend tampering with it.

    If you happen to be in Istanbul, stop by MOTOSENKRON and have all the shock absorbers of BMW motorcycles repaired with a one-year warranty, very cheap 250 euros.

    • @Greeves
      @Greeves  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for this 👍 I’m not expecting to be in Istanbul, sadly. They may ship me one though. I think I’d go for a refurbished unit next time I need one (rather than secondhand).

    Hello ! I noticed while cleaning the bike that the plastic dust cover which is inside the spring is rotating on the right and left , not up and down . Is it normal ?

    • @Greeves
      @Greeves  Před rokem +1

      The black plastic tubular part, inside the spring, is effectively fixed to the lower end of the spring. So it moves up & down with the spring as the suspension works. It's trapped by the pressure of the spring. Mine doesn't rotate, even with the bike on the centre stand and the suspension fully extended - the spring pressure is still plenty to keep the plastic tube firmly held. So I don't think rotation of this part is normal (unless BMW changed the design since my version). Might be worth getting yours checked out by a dealer. Does yours rotate only when on the centre stand, or even when there's weight on the rear wheel?

      @aldvex8541 Před rokem +1

      @@Greeves well the tubular part is rotating on it self spinning right and left by small amount , but doesn't go up and down 🤷🏼‍♂️ also it rubs on the spring . I does do it with load or no load while on side stand

      @Greeves  Před rokem +1

      Please be clear, I’m not a BMW specialist; just an enthusiastic amateur. It does sound to me as if there’s something not quite right with your dust cover. Could be that the plastic’s broken(?) I don’t think it’s safety critical but still worth getting it checked. It shouldn’t move, or ‘tick’, so far as I’m aware.
