- Welcome to this English lesson on phrasal verbs. This is part one of a series of English classes where I will help you learn phrasal verbs. In English, phrasal verbs are quite common. Although you can get by without saying them, you'll really need to know them when reading and having conversations.
Because of that, I don't think the importance of knowing phrasal verbs can be stressed enough. All of the phrasal verbs that I will teach you in this lesson are quite common, and I'll help make them more memorable by showing you a picture, and by using the verb in several sentences.
In this English lesson you'll learn phrasal verbs like: to hang up, to show up, to show off, to put off, to hang out, to bring up, to catch up, to break down, to get away with, to look up, to take after, to eat out, and more!
I hope you enjoy this free English lesson about phrasal verbs you can use at work, school, and in everyday conversations! Have a great day!
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

I love the part where you talk about why you don't like wearing a tie, Bob. Especially the sound of your voice when you hold your two top shirt buttons together is worth a thousand words 😉, but I have to admit that I don't like wearing one either. (I also prefer the free space on the neck.) Anyways, I think I've now caught up on everything I missed on Friday ❤. Thanks Bob for the great lesson and if you're reading this Vitor a big thank you again for passing on my greetings to Bob. (That was really nice of you.) I wish you a wonderful Sunday Bob, and remember to take a break between grading. 😘🚶♂️🛋

break down == take apart , for example, WBS - work break down structure, here 'down' means down to detail.
Very good video! 😊
The meaning of "to break down" originates from the German "zusammen brechen" (brechen = to break) which is similar to collapse.
A person who "bricht zusammen", usually falls on the ground, so they 'break down'.
This was taken over for engines.
Fun fact: in German, a car does not break down, it has a "Panne" (= technical trouble). 😊
Yes, we differ between technical and personal troubles. 😂
You so got a ticket. -:)
So, yes.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Is there a big difference between American and Canadian English?
Look up to ≠ look down on 🧐
What level of English is this lesson approximately for?
This lesson is for a strong A1, or B1, B2.
Bob might got a speed ticket from police on that time?
"To bring up" is similar to "to come up with", isn't it? (when talking about an idea).
yes I think bob got a ticket😂
I think Bob got a ticket, when the police officer pulled him over.🙃
Thanks Bob. Hope you did not get ticket.
I've already had more than 50 phrasal verbs in my vocabulary. Do you know, how many phrasal verbs are in English? Do subscribers know this information? In my opinion, this topic is so important. Americans and Canadians use them a lot.
