Metal Heroes was created to fill the Gap for Kamen Rider and Ultraman which had gone hiatus at this point( the last main Ultraman was in 1980 and Kamen Rider didn't air most of the 80's other than Super 1, Black and RX before going completely dormant in the 90's save for a few anniversary movies) and they needed something to air with Super Sentai , Metal Heroes took many ideas from diferent places like Super Sentai for the robots and other toku heroes like Kikaider for Chojinki Metalder, the first series Space Shariff Gavan was inspiration for Robocop and they would later extend the thanks by creating Mobile Cop Jiban and Janperson Metal Heroes, The B-Fighter series was adapted as Big Bad Beetleborgs in The US and VR Troopers was also created in America using footage from different Metal Hero shows, Ultraman and Kamen Rider eventually came back for their revival era, known as the Heisei era for both, so now Metal Heroes was no longer necassary as their replacement and was cancelled after the kid friendly Kabutack and Robotack aired.
Although the movie RoboCop (released in 1987) came out later than Space Sheriff Gavan (aired in 1982), RoboCop's appearance pays homage to the design of Space Sheriff Gavan. Interestingly, the Metal Hero series' Mobile Detective Jiban (aired in 1989) was inspired by RoboCop and paid homage to it in a way, creating a kind of synergistic effect.
Fun note, both Gavan and Jiraiya have appeared in Power Rangers seasons, albeit, not under those names. And several of these series were used to make both V.R. Troopers and Big Bad Beetleborgs. The Beetleborg suits were then reused for Forever Red, the 10th Anniversary special.
12:15 Funny thing is Robocop was inspired by Gavan (even the director said it), the first opening you saw, and Jiban itself was inspired by Robocop, so that's like an inspiration tennis game lol
So some extra info. The very first three are Space Sheriffs. Gavan trains Sharivan who in turn trains Shaider. These three have the most crossovers with both Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. In terms of power, one Space Sheriff is as strong as a whole Sentai team. There is more than one instance that Gavan (since he's the most famous of the three) has beaten a Sentai team on his own when they're not fighting him at the same time. Other metal heroes who have crossed over with Super Sentai are Juspion, Spielban, Jiraiya and Jiban. If I remember right, they all appear as henshin keys for Gokaiger. You mentioned Spiderman and funnily enough, yes, there is a tokusatsu Spiderman. He's actually the first toku hero to have a mech/zord and the kids loved it so much that they kept the idea from then onwards. You've seen Battle Fever J. That was actually supposed to be a toku spin on the Avengers. Toei had a deal with Marvel back in the day which birthed toku Spiderman, Denjiman, Battle Fever J and Sun Vulcan.
Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider also know as the Uchuu Keiji (Space Sheriff) Trilogy had a somewhat of a passing of the torch trilogy of movies also known as the Uchuu Keiji: Next Generation. I highly recommend you watch them. They remade the suits using more modern techniques and made it on par with Kamen Rider suits.
Hey, thank you very much for reacting to this, I loved it!! You should also respond to the endings, they are much more mellow, but considering how much you loved Blue Swat opening you probably are going to like it. Now, I see many comments here that already gave some explanations, so I will keep this short: Metal Hero was airing while Kamen Rider was on hiatus (there were no plans to bring it back). After the last 2 series, which went terribly with audiences, in 1999 they did another kid tokusatsu (that is not included in this video because it's not officially classified as a metal hero) and then, in 2000, launched Kamen Rider Kuuga In the timeslot, not with great hopes, but just to see if people would like it. It was an absolute success so the kamen rider franchise was revived (airing non stop until today), which also made the Metal Hero franchise be permanently buried. They did a crossover movie with Gokaiger (the pirate sentai that you love the suits) and it was a success, spawning 2 sequels, but sadly not enough to fully revive the franchise. Nowdays, Metal Hero only lives through references and crossovers (like Jiraya appearing in two episodes of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger as kind of a mentor to them)
Jiraiya @10:42 "So stealthy! No one even saw... oh.. ne" literally as everyone in the office stares at him 😅 Looking at the Kidou Keiji Jiban wiki. The little girl lost her memory, is the only civilian who knows the hero's secret. She had been his missing younger sister all along. Also some poor translation, the OP 's line from the wiki "This is the drama of a girl's and a young man's hearts which love people and protect justice." Its all safe! 😄 I only watched B-Fighter when it aired. Great design, Banger OP!! Also recently checked out the OG of the bunch Gavan 💗
Fun facts about the last four series is that Saban did adapt B-Fighters into an north American series called Beetle borgs, but it was even more childish than Power Rangers. So what I assume Toei did with the last two series (Robottack) is that they saw what Saban did to the previous series so they decided to give him two really childish series to adapt 😂😂😂 kind of a vengeance?? 🫢
I was watching (Listening) to this on the background, and when you went silent when Kabutaku starts, IS HILLARIOUS. And you know when they kinda gave up with Metal Heros ALTOGETHER. They stopped trying to appeal to Kids and young teens, to JUST KIDS. And now you understand WHY we lament on the death of METAL HEROES. In comparison, Kabutaku that was released in 1998, - Kamen Rider had Kamen Rider J, A stand alone KR movie and the last Showa Era Kamen Rider. Goes hiatus until KR Kuuga for year 2000 - Super Sentai had Gingaman (PR Galaxy), Power Rangers were on PR In Space. - Ultraman had Ultraman Gaia
Thing is, Metal Heroes kinda replaced Kamen Rider for a while (BLACK and BLACK RX aired on a separated channel). When Metal Heroes was terminated, there was another show called Moero!! Robocon, that is the sequel of another Ishinomori production (Ishinomori being creator of Rider and Sentai who passed away the year prior). Then Rider came back with Kuuga in 2000.
don't you dare insult my childhood kabutack without even know anything about it.. (jk) btw, i'm surprise you didn't know about B-Fighter because there's an american version of it called Beetleborgs
Yeah Kabutack and Robotack where the death knells of the metal heroes series although there have been a few tries at revives throughout the years also please react to the garo openings and suit transformations.
I watched many episodes of Kabutack as a kid and loved it, the show was of the kid friendly variety with lots of robots that could transform and then the main character bonded with one of them but most of the robots didn't need human help. But then after that learning about their metal hero front and back I was like the same WTF
11:11 this was more like a shine on the sword. You know how anime do sword and it's Shinyness with it turn white so this basically their way of doing it back in the day
The only real thing to come out of metal heroes was the two beetleborg series and maybe space sheriff Gavin. The other ones aren’t really that well known.
Nowadays, the Ultraman and Kamen Rider series continue with new works being made every year, but in the past, due to budgets and commercial planning, the series would often go on hiatus for several years after two or three works, but for a long time, both the Super Sentai and Metal Hero series continued to make new works every year, and during the periods when Ultraman and Kamen Rider were not on the air, the Super Sentai and Metal Hero series entertained children as live-action hero programs. When Shotaro Ishinomori, the original creator of the first Kamen Rider and Super Sentai works, passed away in 1998, the production company decided to use the time slot where the Metal Hero series was broadcast as a tribute to Ishinomori, and this has continued to the current Heisei Kamen Rider and Reiwa Kamen Rider series. Additional information The Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and Metal Hero series are all produced by the same company, so they are like brothers. There are also episodes in movies and TV series in which Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, and Metal Hero appear together.
There is a series that is neither Metal Heroes nor Super Sentai, but kind of a blend of the 2 and that was quite successful during the same time in the 80s. It's called Cybercop (Dennou Keisatsu Cybercop) and was shot by Toho Co. instead of Toei Co. (which shot Kamen Rider, Metal Heroes and Super Sentai). There is another production by Toei Co. called Nebula Mask Machineman that is technically not part of Metal Heroes but is the same in spirit, in my opinion. Also, The Masked Belle Poitrine is another Toei Co. production that is worth taking a look at.
Yeah metal heroes stuff is severely underrated, what with rider ultra and sentai being the big actively ongoing franchises, but pretty much every show slaps. There were a few reasons why it didnt continue into the 2000s, main lines being the cost too much money to produce and didnt see good enough returns a lot of the time, and those last two shows putting the series in such a massive identity crisis they just kinda gave up. I used to have on my channel the most viewed and highest quality metal heroes op compilation, done in the exact same style as the ultraman one you watched by me, but on the 1 year anniversary of its upload it got struck down, toei doesnt play nice when they finally catch you.
can you also react metal hero henshin btw congrat that your channel grow fast other chennel that begin react tokusatsu somehow not good as you do alway love your reaction
@@Runack09 😂😂 same reaction like me too about two last series btw there are other tokusatsu if you want to check ryukendo garo granzaser justiriser sazerx this three are same universe kikaider kikaider zero one kaiketsu zubat inazuma electric cybercop
Let me add a few of my favorites, or more like what else is there I watched that is a banger: Guyfeld, Granseizer, Ryukendo... the last one you should see the opening and ending.
"The production values are high even early on." That's coz the Metal Heroes subgenre started already in the 80s, unlike Ultraman (1966), Kamen Rider (1971) & Super Sentai (1975).
Despite the last two seasons of metal heroes, which I agree were pretty outrageous in design in an effort to pander to a younger generation, I personally think they were running out of ideas to help the overall label stand out from the big three toku shows (Ultra, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider), and had they even decided to go back to the old material, they probably would not have lasted long anyway what with the events at the time

B-Fighter was the basis for Saban's Big Bad Beetleborgs series
In case u were wondering why the last song was such banger, it was sung by Hironobu Kageyama
when you watch kabutack and robotack, it's exactly what the fans feel. and it's a part of the reasons the series stopped
The _Blue SWAT_ intro gets me PUMPED! Totally fitting a children's action show!!
Impossible not to jump in excitement
Man your face during the Kabutack OP was priceless 😂
12:15 Funny thing is Robocop was inspired by Gavan (even the director said it), the first opening you saw, and Jiban itself was inspired by Robocop, so that's like an inspiration tennis game lol
little FYI, the design for OG Robocop was inspired by Gavan
Metal Heroes always a special part of my childhood. Also their costumes always looked top notch and screams budget 😂
BTW the singer from last one series is the same guy who sing Cha-la head Cha-la and many songs from Super sentai.
The second to last was made by Future Trunks' voice actor too lol
So some extra info. The very first three are Space Sheriffs. Gavan trains Sharivan who in turn trains Shaider. These three have the most crossovers with both Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Several Metal Hero series have bluray releases in the US thanks to Discotek: Sheriff Gavan, Space Sheriff Sharivan, Juspion and Jiban
The last two are like the definition of jumping the shark. lol
Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider also know as the Uchuu Keiji (Space Sheriff) Trilogy had a somewhat of a passing of the torch trilogy of movies also known as the Uchuu Keiji: Next Generation.
