Live singing masterclass of the Riga Jurmala Online Music Academy with baritone Benjamin Appl!
Hailed as ‘the most promising of today’s up-and-coming song recitalists’ (Financial Times), baritone Benjamin Appl is celebrated by audiences and critics alike for a voice that ‘belongs to the last of the old great masters of song’ with ‘an almost infinite range of colours’ (Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin), ‘exacting attention to text’ (The New York Times), and artistry that’s described as ‘unbearably moving’ (The Times).
Named Gramophone Award Young Artist of the Year in 2016, Appl was a member of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme from 2014-16, as well as a Wigmore Hall Emerging Artist and ECHO Rising Star for the 2015-16 season, appearing at major venues throughout Europe, including the Barbican Centre London, Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wiener Konzerthaus, Philharmonie de Paris and Cologne and the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. He signed exclusively to Sony Classical in May 2016.
In summer of 2019 Benjamin Appl performed on the Riga Jurmala Music Festival's stage as well.

Daniils Kuzmins is currently a student at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in the Vocal Department under teacher Krišjānis Norvelis. Previously, Daniils was a student of the Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music Secondary School under teacher Viesturs Jansons.
He began his musical career in 2008 when he took part in the Vladimirs Hvoiņickis Foundation Competition for Young Singers. Later, the young artist won even more competitions: the International Competition of Young Musicians KAUNAS SONORUM (2011, 3rd place; 2013, diploma; 2015, 1st place; 2017, 2nd place); the prize for Best Performance of a Song by a Russian Composer at the 2016 Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Vocalists; and 1st place and a special prize for Best Performance of an Original Song by a Composer from Your Home Country in the II Bella Voce International Vocal Competition. At home, he has won second (2016) and first (2017) place in the All-Latvia Young Talent Competition for the Teodors Reiters Prize. Daniils’ most recent awards include 2nd place (2019) and 1st place (2020) at the Latvian Inese Galante Talents competition, as well as 2nd place in the Jānis Zābers International Vocalist Competition in 2019.
Daniils gave his first solo concert in 2018 in the Great Hall of the Riga Jewish Community Centre. Daniils actively performs in concerts and international projects, such as the Musical August in Daugavpils 2019 festival, the Santa Lucia St. Lucia’s Day concert, and elsewhere.
