The way they announce “Reptile” was perfect.. Techno music, Iconic Mortal Kombat characters, and cool catch phrases! The video games laid the ingredients to make a great movie franchise and the new one blew it!
The new one has SO much potential and totally blew it with absolute shit writing and story telling. I thought all the fight scenes were awesome, but holy shit did the storyline suck balls.

Reptile is a straight savage. He wakes up and dropkicks the first dude he sees through a brick wall. DAMN!

Somehow they completely captured the embodiment of what I'd expect "Reptile" to be. Ruthless, not talking, no bullshit, just go straight for the attack.
and to be named "reptile", be supernatural and somehow manage to not have a single unique trait that separates him from a random human martial artist throughout the whole fight.
the embodiment of having nothing to do with reptile, i.e. failing to belong into this movie.
@inappropriately aligned metaphorical nourishment Well Reptile did look like that in the first three MK games which this movie is based of. Sure they could use some toxic ball or sth but for me it would ruin the perfect choreography with poor CGI at that times. Moreover the directors state that they almost run out of budget because of Goro.

Same here.
I saw this during the summer of '95, and when I got back to school, my friends and I were talking about this fight. I mistakenly thought this was Sub-Zero. My eyes weren't as good then as they are now.
Plus, I didn't hear Shao Khans voice saying, "Reptile." I think the sound drowned out the voice at the start because the speakers at the theater were very loud. I did eventually hear it when this came on TV a year later.

1. Turns from an old CGI monster into a human ninja.
2. Has his own announcer (straight from the arcade games) present him as Reptile.
3. Makes an entrance with kickass music and immediately goes ballistic through the wall.
4. Proceeds to kick ass in one of the best action movie fights out there.
5. Gets defeated by some epic bicycle kicking.
6. Refuses to elaborate.
7. Dies, but comes back in later games and still remains a dark horse fan favourite.

@@mr4kgamer yes however, that time, we the audience never thought that he would joined in the fight in human form until this part.
Yeah, Reptile was never the same since mk developers killed the Reptile in human disguise idea just to make a literal reptilian creature. I always loved how there was a voice announcing 'Reptile' and the music that followed just hit you in the chest. No talking, straight up fighting for your life, and you had to do it on your own, which is why Johnny Cage didn't intervene. Their martial arts pride wouldn't let them gang up on Reptile. i don't understand why a lot of people dislike 90s Mortal Kombat movies...for me,good background music like video games, good casting/costume,good sound effect..🔥🔥
I enjoyed the first one, particularly this and the Scorpion - Johnny fight. The second is kinda trash though
The first one is really good😊, the second is a disgrace😢
In my experience people generally don't tend to dislike the original film, sure people may have some complaints on certain artistic liberties that were taken (for example, one liberty I disagree with was the severe lack of copious amounts of blood and bodily mutilation 2 of the defining traits that made MK what it is, granted such things might've caused the movie to get a higher rating and honestly I'd happily accept that if it meant more accuracy to the source material but I digress) but most can still enjoy the movie for what it is nonetheless. The sequel on the other hand imho gets tons of its hate for good reason, the quality of the sequel falls short and spits on the standard of quality set by the original.
Nobody disliked it. Stop spreading false shit.

Can we have a moment of appreciation for seeing two trained martial artists who clearly have spent a long time working on the choreography for this scene. For seeing a movie that backs the camera off so we can see every punch and kick thrown and seeing the expressions on the fighters faces. For seeing real actors being in a real room with real props for them to interact with. This movie clearly has a passion that movies today don’t for action.

Reptile was such a badass in this film.
My only gripe about the fight was Reptile absolutely kicking the shit out of Lui Kang and then it only took one throw to turn Reptile into a staggering mess that turns the fight completely around.
I just feel they could of done that a little better. But still a great fight with alot of respect to Reptile as a badass.
I don't think it was JUST the throw, Liu gets his legs there. Keep in mind he got absolutely ambushed here and kicked through a brick wall, not surprising that it took him a moment to get in the swing. You also see Liu start using his anger/emotion as a motivator in the second half of the fight - keep in mind this guy is MAD as hell, he literally showed up to this tournament to kill Shang Tsung.
That's the point though. Reptile is an assassin, not a 1vs1 brawler like Lui Kang. Reptile relies on ending fights quick and almost succeeded here, but Lui outlasted him.
All these years later. This fight is still better than most cinematic battles. Thing is so fire.
Saw this in theatres back in '95 and I cannot even tell you how epic this scene was 🔥
tears, was in tears, didn't expect it, then boom pure MK fight right out the game.
"Reptile"
@@TheBlackCat1337 YES! Back in the day of no internet and no spoilers. It was awesome!
ME 2!! Nostalgia
Crowd went crazy remember like it was yesterday! Best scene in movie
Yo my dad took me to see this when I was 9 and the pop when you heard reptile was deafening. Didn’t even hear liu scream when he kicked him through a wall
Lets all be real: Liu Kang just made the *entire situation* harder on himself by accidently unlocking the Reptile secret boss fight with that throw into the statue.
Lets all be real: This Liu Kang makes the best representation of *Liu Kang* unlike the one in the 2021 movie.
@@Altered-Beast I don't like Liu Kang in the last games either. By the way, talking about the other characters, the story of turning people into robots, new era, etcetera... No.
Let's all be real. Reptile won that fight. Only plot armor saved that man from permanent damage being kicked through a brick wall, and then into what I believe is a concrete one
@@Altered-Beast 2021 Liu Kang was good, he just didn’t have enough time to redeem himself due to the fact that he was a supporting character and not one of the main characters.
@@SebChavez which is disrespectful to the character
Saw this in theaters. As a 10 year old Whippersnapper that was obsessed with Mortal Kombat. This fight scene was SO epic. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie but this fight stuck with me the most for some reason, I remember getting excitement chills when the voice say's "REPTILE".
What an Epic battle with Reptile. Great memories from back in 1995.
If I ever hear "REPTILE" out of nowhere, I'm just going to start running
😂😂😂
Lol fast as hell huh!
I'll just have to do a bicycle kicks like Liu, problem solve
lmfaoooo
Legendary comment.
I love how Reptile doesn't waste any time after he revives. Lol
Just gets right up and double kicked the man through the wall
@@acewilliams6146 Right! Lol
Afro Shinobi Liu kang had enough of his shit at the end lmfao
Reptile only talks with his hands, feet, elbows and knees lol
@@acewilliams6146 As you do.
I always eventually find my way back here to appreciate this masterpiece. Iconic.
same :) super epic
This is actually a good representation of what it was like fighting Reptile in MK1 on the hardest difficulty. Just getting F***Ed up for most of the fight lol
This is hands down the best fight in the whole movie. The music, the fight, the "REPTILE", bicycle kick, all of it.
Agreed
the level is sick, pretty much like mk2. where is you uppercut in the end, you punch them into the acid
Couldn’t have said it any better
@@tceltic27 Actually it's the flying room level
Facts 💯
Fun Fact: In the original MK game, to unlock the Reptile fight, you must perform a double flawless victory and perform a fatality in the end. It turns out, Johnny Cage did this by beating Goro twice and performed a stage Fatality on him.
Holy shit, you're right
And he never blocked.
That said, ironically the stage fatality doesn't count as far as the game is concerned.
They keep it accurate by also having Reptile just comepletely beat your ass out of nowhere with all the speed and dmg buffs 😂
Crazy if true
Keith cooke and robin shou still the best fight and best music for the fight. It went perfect for the fight scene. I loved how keith cooke returned as subzero in the second.
I have seen this movie maybe 100+ times, this is the best intro and fight sequence for any character they have ever done IMO... Scorp and Johnny will always be a classic as well.
Everytime I hear him say “ REPTILE” I get chills and then the techno music gets me hype lol
The whole theater went nuts back in the day!
Still fucking hyped!!!🦎
1:45 And this epic somersault
Liu Kang like: Aaaa
The announcer is dope
I remember cheering when Reptile showed up. It was a complete surprise! Damn, the 90's was the best time to grow up!
Yup.. I kinda feel bad for young people nowadays, aka generation Z. All their childhood is focused on Facebook and Instragram bullshit. What a crappy way to grow up.
Sami Tabbakh a little disconnected there bud but close enough

@@Forossa Yup.. And so are you in few years ;)
One of the best fight scenes in movie history. The choreography of this was insanely good and smooth.
Came back to watch this fight after seeing the 2021 film. This holds up. Choreography and FX keep it grounded in and it feels real... well as much as it can for being a video game adaptation.
Fun trivia: This fight wasn't part of the original cut of the movie, neither the Scorpion x Cage in Scorpion's Lair. It was reshot and both fights were coreographed by Robin Shou (Liu Kang actor) and both were considered by far the best fights in the movie.
that is so cool
Thank you Robin Shou these were def 2 of the best fights
Yep, reptile's fight was the best of the movie.
Oh if it wasn't for these two scenes the movie would have suuuucked. They were the main events!
Even more reason to love Robin Shou. Wasn't the cast great? Bridgette Wilson, Christopher Lambert, Talisa Soto, Lindon Ashby...
Even after all these years, Liu Kang vs Reptile is still the best fight ever.
I agree. Most people think that Scorpion vs Johnny Cage scene was the best fight. But I personally think this one was the best in this film
The awesome track to this fight makes it worth it 👌
100%. The announcer saying reptile is the cherry on the cake
@@shwickid222 Agreed! When you hear that voice say "Reptile" you know it's about to go down!!! Get's me hype everytime!
I still Give to Johnny and Scorpion. Come on they threw in 2 fatalities in that one!
This is one of the best fight scenes of all-time
Still one of my favorite fights 20+ years later.
When he said “REPTILE” you knew it’s time to get busy and throw some hands 😂😂 my favorite part
He said "REPTILE" music starts, and starts goosebumps on my hands too
@@ukrainepower835 Followed by that front flip kick. Tss shit was bad 🔥
that's probably the best entrance ever than kicks him through the wall
Definitely my favorite part!
My niggatela
This movie has so much rewatch value. Cant count how many times I've seen it. Truly epic
Yea it does. Annihilation though....not so much...lol
“Those were $500(not adjusted to ‘95 $$$) sunglasses asshole!”
@@thisisyou420 annihilation has some annoying scenes but it does have its redeeming moments too, like the jax and cyrax fight was cool and the smoke and liu kang fight was sick, especially the music in that scene.
Facts
The movie? No way. The fights? Mostly meh. Johnny Vs Scorpion and Lui vs Reptile. HELL YES!!!!!
