  • The Headwaters Trail is a multi-day ride on bridleways and greenways in one corner of Yorkshire.
The circular trail takes you to the moors where three rivers rise - the River Calder above Todmorden in the South Pennines, the River Aire above Malham in the Yorkshire Dales and the River Don above Penistone in the Peak District.
The Headwaters Trail is 350kms long and is a unique 'off-road' experience as no other trail in Britain traces the flow of three rivers each with their own unique landscape. From packhorse tracks laid in the 1500's to canal towpaths built in the 1780's and traffic-free greenways on railway cuttings dismantled in the 1960's, the Headwaters Trail makes for a rich and varied riding experience.
There is an organised event in May for bikepackers or opt for the supported ride with campsite, luggage transfer and artisan food vans - a bit like a festival but you have to ride a long way to get there!
The Yorkshire Divide website has maps and trail info to guide you. The gpx file will be available to anyone by May 2024

Excellent video, the drone shots captured the scenery beautifully. Hope to get to some of those places.

Back from riding the event over the weekend. Absolutely brilliant experience. In parts, quite challenging for a fully loaded bike packer but there's plenty of short cuts to take if needs be.... and I certainly did at times. And my goodness... I don't regret taking extra cable ties and Velcro straps! Super Kudos to Adrian who organized the event and researched a route visiting so many marvelous places... picture postcard canal side villages, awe inspiring reservoirs, soul refreshing pristine woodland glades.... We came, we saw and we really lived! And we will return! 😃

It did turn out alright in the end didn't it. Great weekend with riders enjoying the variety of trails and the campsites vibes. Good to know you adapted the route to suit your bikepacking set up. No need to be a slave to the gpx. Adrian

Lots of options for wild camping on Malham moor and the wood outside Skipton plus further along once past Leeds it’s green and quiet along the canal. On day 2 over by Penistone and Marsden lots of options plus the all important cafes and shops. With planning you’ll be covered.

Me too. So many sections are a delight to ride and I never get bored of returning to them and seeing new things in the landscape.

That's good to know. Was there one particular highlight that you thought 'yes, I gotta see that' or was it the whole vibe of the event?

fairly short but very interesting route, I do not have a time to do 5+ night long events anymore, so this one is perfect and also no clashes on that particular date.@@yorkshiredivide
