I have a couple Benro tripods for travel, since they are light, relatively inexpensive, and will fit in a suitcase. I also use a BH40 for travel. At home or when I travel by car, I use Gitzo tripods and a BH55.
This is awesome! We need more "real world" reviews like this on the internet! Product reviews by real users with real feedback (both good and bad)!!! Thank you!!
these are great videos, love to see more of these. nice to see them done at every workshop that you do!
Good idea. I'll keep trying to remember to do more of them when we have a good group together.

Yes I would like to see more on other tripods as well.

I was looking at the Feisol CT-3372 and the one had there in the video was the CT-3472 which all specs are roughly same. Except for the folded length. Would you tell me to go with the 3 or 4 section tripod. Hmmmm
Choices
Great video! Thank you very much! My Induro Work well ! But I think many users not have a ball head! My 3D-L is perfect too!
They r good but how come no handle to adjust camera tilt or panning?
Great Jim! Quite helpful too!
Jim, do you have issue with the long locking lever on the BH-40 hitting into the center column plate on the Feisol? I seem to be having definite clearance issues with mine, and wondering if you had a workaround?
Thanks for the video! Can you please tell me the model number of the Sirui tripod?
I was an early adopter of Sirui in the United States and still love my carbon tripod and ball head!
The audio sounds amazing, what mics are you guys using?
the Feisol "Tournament" series tripods' name refers to competitive shooting and were designed to meet the needs of Defense Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) competitive shooters to use as a rest. Feisol has 3 ranges of "systematic" style tripods: Classic, Elite and Tournament. what differs is their materials and weight: Classic uses a cast aluminum base, Elite uses a milled 6061 aluminum base that's lighter and stronger than cast, and Tournament uses a milled 7075 aluminum base that's lightest and strongest. Feisol's CRETAC store offers accessories specifically for shooters. Really Right Stuff also markets their tripods at DCM shooters through their SOAR range.
it's not about "tournament photography."
So I just found you yesterday on a video where you were bidding on a landscape job. great video. So today I see this as I'm in the market for a top tier tripod and I see Nick Page. woot I follow him, question for Nick is was that the really right stuff tripod I recently saw him switch to?
Thanks for the video. It needs an update. Also for its vintage I was surprised not to see any Markins ball heads. Also not sure what is being shot but there were no Wimberley gimbal heads or leveling bases from RRS. Take care.
I have been using the Sirui N2204X tripod matched with the K20 ballhead since the first year they came out. It is a great traveling/hiking setup and has held up overtime. Thinking of getting the waterproof W2204X rendition and selling mine... or keeping both. I feel Sirui provides great value and thoughtful features. I won't name brands, but the Sirui setup hasn't (knock on wood) had any issues that I have seen on more expensive and better known options. I guide photo tours in Yellowstone in the winter, so I see some extreme conditions.
Also went from a Sunway foto (very good value) L bracket on my 7D mkII to the Kirk bracket on my 5D mk IV. They both do the job, but the Kirk is a piece of art and fits like a glove. Was looking at RRS brackets for the 5D, but they are two piece now... no thanks.
Also considering moving from ballheads to a high end gimball, like the Wimberly or the ProMediaGear, in the very near future. They tend to have less issues in extreme conditions... like when it is 30 below zero... and they are buttery smooth panning each axis. The one downside is that they take up more space and weigh more, something to think about if one is rationing space and weight for traveling.
which model # is the traveller Gitzo ? thanks for the nice video
You can reverse the post on the Gitzo and get the camera closer to the ground than any flat plate. Just deal with your camera being upside down. After 35 years and I don’t know how many tripods I just coughed up and bought a Gitzo 3 series systematic. Never regretted it. I’m convinced I’ll never need to buy another tripod ever again. Why Gitzo... because it’s the brand all the other brands try to imitate. Rock solid build 10 year warranty, light weight. Any option on head attachment you prefer, flat plate, video ball, Geared center column, leveling base. Massive weight capacity . Availability of parts, both Oem and third party.... and because parts are available most pro camera stores that do repairs are willing to service and repair them as needed. They are pricey but less than the RRS imitator. Because of their exceptional build quality finding them used is definitely a good way to go. I’m not knocking any of these other brands RRS does make the best ball heads and pano rigs. Anyway the tripod mount has been the one thing that has remained constant in the photo equipment category. It’s worth it to spend on a tripod.. make the right choice and it will be around for decades, buy lesser gear and you will end up replacing it and paying more in the long run.
There are so many bad reviews about their warranty.
After reviewing couple of websites for information about the tripods induro covered most of the things I looked for, went with Gran Turismo 224
Induros with the RRS ball head for the win 🙌🏼
Great video.
I just bought the Feisol CT3442 tripod and the RRS BH-40. I do mainly astrophotography and night landscapes. I really don't like them together. The BH-40 lever clamp always gets in the way of the Feisol tripod's center platform anytime I angle the camera up towards the sky. The BH40 lever clamp also keeps hitting the key type knob on the left anytime I angle the camera towards the side. I dont know why Feisol made such a large center platform. I dont see this on any other tripods. I will probably return both of them. I just need a good sturdy tripod to bring to travel photography workshops and a good quality ball head that is portable and can travel with for night sky photography.
I would like to see a video like this for video tripods.
I have the Sirui K-20x ball head, which I like a lot . . . EXCEPT . . . the tension knob gets stuck when it's tightened too much and you need a pair of pliers to get it to move. And I'm not getting it super tight--just tight enough to hold a D-750 with 70-200 2.8, for instance. This has happened to me numerous times, to the point where I need to carry pliers with me on any shoot. Probably headed for a RRS ballhead soon.
I have the same ballhead. I find it terrible, not only does the tension knob get stuck, but the ballhead can't really pan. It almost completely freezes up and I'm forced to use the actual panning base. This kinda defeats the purpose of having a ballhead if I can't even make small panning adjustments..
Hello. I used to repair cameras. Take the knob off and go to Home Depot or Lowe's, etc. and try to find a knob there with a grip to it. They're usually found in the hardware section. I also make some of my own lighting equipment.
What mic are you using
Great vid. I think the tripod tends to be the most neglected part of a professionals kit. But just a brand that wasn’t represented here that seems to be the best of the best is ProMediagear. I have their 424 series because I shoot video and photo and the build quality is even a step up from really right stuff, as is the pricing. But I operate on the philosophy of buy once, keep forever.
I'd like to know how tall you guys are so I can gauge for myself. I'm 6'4"
@AlergicToSnow - I'm 5'10". Majeed is the tallest of that bunch. I'd guess Majeed is 6'2".
Good information. Suggestion: when showing something that you want your audience to look at, please don't move the camera so much.
I'm sure that many will appreciate some kind of link to the full names, product numbers, and links to B&H or Adorama or the manufacturer sites, to allow further in-depth evaluation. Good video; thanks!
improvephotography.com/44918/professional-tripods-landscape-photographers/ It's right here. Sorry, I forgot to include the link in the description!
@2:41 could you please tell me what the product is that is covering the lens? it is like a black plate.
Amanda Indigo its an ND filter, cuts the amount of light coming into the camera so you can take long exposures
@@HydroZxZInferno what sort of uv would be best for really sunny days? are there different uv levels? thank you for responding
What kind of spikes did Nick get for his feisol?
Great idea for a video but the camera work was terrible. Wanted to see close ups, full tripod, etc
SIRUI R-4214X Professional Carbon Fibre Tripod - SIRUI K-40X Ball Head - Recommended
I have a Manfrotto 055 which is perfect for my DSLR set up. All those featured legs had one a common factor..Overkill!
Pro's what university qualifications have they got ,
I wonder how many of these photographers have moved on to the "Amazon Special," the Innorel RT90C.
Induro ct314 with a Flexshooter pro,beat it!
Pro Media Tr344L
Induro CLT303
Gitzo traveler
Feisol Tournament
Sachtler FSB-6
it'd have been much helpful if the names of the tripods were mentioned with some links to their online pages. thanks

If money is an issue, get a used Gitzo Reporter tripod.
No Manfrotto ????.Give me a break.
Mine failed on me..junk design.
There is Gitzo

Once again, every photographer pointed in the wrong direction. Amazing landscape lines behind them!
But notice how we never turn around to see what's behind us? So maybe it's amazing that direction and killer in the other. ;)
Looks like Vik, Iceland
Yep. 63.420531° -19.003673°
This proves that even how expensive your tripod is it will never be "perfect"
I am impressed by your ability to know all there is to know about it. Here I was thinking Induro was perfect (for my needs).
You're right they just never R good enough.
You and I want something that will last forever and never ever break.
Keith Kuhn
Sorry, but any L bracket will do is not a great response. RRS, Kirk, Markins and others have shapes that are contoured to the camera to prevent it from shifting once tightened. This along with the head grip are as important, if not more important than the tripod itself, based on simple structural engineering. Both will "Improve Photography".
Absolutely. Definitely do not want to go cheap on tripod, ball head or l bracket
The lady is the smartest there,Nikon.
A WHAT?
They describe the models like it's some type of a military Gun 😂❤️
Trust me if you’re experiencing a problem with your gear, someone else is having the same issue. It’s funny to see all the cheaper quality tripod owners make excuses for their purchase and then Jim with the worst setup give Majeed, who made the smartest decision, a hard time. There’s absolutely no way that piss-poor tripod which wobbled throughout the video, was sturdy with 60 mph winds, total BS
we got some real lady killers here;)
My tripod cost me $64
All those light weight tripods with carbon fiber, amazing batteries, mega pixels and not one field camera using large format film in the group. If you are going to such lengths of road tripping to Iceland why not make your images with some soul. It is not easy and you need to use a light meter. Just saying.
Exactly my thoughts! Those larger feisol tripods are built for large format.
Exactly. I have been doing photography for over 45 years. Most of my work is (was) I Russia and Europe with medium format and a bid Fuji GX680 and lugging around the Bogen 3036 with 3047 head all-day-long....5 days per week. Have gotten a Manfrotto 05t x pro b several years ago which I use for the Hasselblad and 35mm gear. Lots of tripods out there, but it's best to stay with QUALITY equipment in this regard. Thanks for sharing though.
Sorry, I meant Manfrotto 055 x pro b
@@timothygasper406 I've got a 055 XPROB, with a 410 geared head. It's a freakin' tank, but I love it. Nothing big on it, but it's versatile.
The interviewer is annoying.
Professional landscape Photographers with ball heads? Ball heads are for amateurs or casual photography. Geared heads are the holy grail for landscape photography.
