95-110 average. I had a heat stroke last year working in a storage room and it was 110 degrees. That was in August last year and it looks like we are headed for that again. Summers are also humid in the south so the heat index can be much higher than the temp.😊
If the lease doesn't address putting in an air conditioner, the tenant can put one in, the same way if the lease doesn't address providing air conditioning, they don't have to, apparently. Small a/c don't need special electric outlets. Even most larger ones can be plugged into the wall. They have new ones that are a "saddle design" that fit half in and half out of the window, making installation easier. Two people can do this - even one - my handyman has installed a few for me for the rentals.

Central home AC has only been around since the 1960s, so I’m not sure if it’s a human right or first world luxury, and window units are only 150-200 bucks. Half the places I’ve lived in didn’t have AC. That said, this woman’s apartment has a central unit that’s not working, and it should be repaired by law based on the simple fact that it’s there, it’s part of the apartment just like the plumbing and ceiling. There’s a difference between providing AC and maintaining an apartment complex that’s falling into disrepair.
I agree. I grew up w/o AC and I am pretty sure it’s contributing to global warming, and it’s a luxury not a necessity, but the house I grew up in was built to be efficient. On the other hand, they put in central AC so it should be available.
ridiculous is the thought that air conditioning is a requirement. it's not. it's a privilege. i lived in many places over the years that did not have ac. people can claim climate change and how it's hotter now than it was then but this is not true. not everyone is breaking heat records which means, guess what? it's been hotter at some point in the past. if ac is not provided, go buy your own like i've done.
This is not a wise decision at all. It is not safe to be living down south in the summer without an air conditioner. I visited up north one summer and felt a comfortable breeze outside. Some people were complaining, saying it was too hot at 80 degrees. I told them, why don't you come to the South. It is around 100+ degrees right now. I will take 80 degrees in the summer any day.
Renters are going to be treated like renters/tenants in Africa 1 yrs rent in advance Bring your own appliances When homeowners air-conditioning goes out we adapt with floor fans and window units! People need to be responsible for their own comforts!!
I've never rented an apartment in an apartment complex that big that did not have central heat and air. The rent at that complex runs $1,150 - $1,474 plus utilities. Seems like they could afford a maintenance staff. A couple of weeks is one thing but three months is another.🤔
I'd be putting in my own portable AC unit in the window. Even if the lease says no window the ones portable you stick the tiny duct at windown even inside the screen. But this is just wrong
You have the right to purchase your own ac, this is America. If you rented the unit with ac the landlord should be responsible to repair it. If he won’t fix it buy one and deduct it from the rent. Make sure you document it in writing.
A fan just blows hot air around. I hated visiting family as a kid and they didn't have a/c. Even now when I visit they want to hang outside in this heat, flys everywhere and they're ok with it. I remember when I first moved out i rented a little house and got a window unit. I could barely sleep for fear someone break in that window. My naive self put the unit in a chair with a fan blowing behind it. It was cold until I woke up sweating. It's called a window unit for a reason 😂🤣 But if people have a few hundred dollars there's some units that go inside with a hose that leads out window. I had one and loved it. But i understand not everyone have extra money to spend on things the rental property should be handling.

Renters in the US are seen as lesser beings. Here in AZ it was 115 outside with a non functional ac. So we bought our own. Guess what the wiring is so bad only one AC can be used at a time.
True. The air quality has also been bad in Nashville and surrounding areas this year. Could be because we have 18 million tourist this summer. Vanderbilt University researchers report major ozone pollution resulting in some of the worst rated air quality in the country.
The manger or owner will charge her extra for it or not aloud her to use it . I live in apartment complex with a AC unit in the wall it will only cool 2 rooms even with fans running , trouble is I can only use it when i am home and i have to unplug it when i am not it will try to turn itself on if it is plugged in. Maintance look at it a few years ago said the board in it is bad , but couldn't order new one because they didn't have any . It went bad after my upstairs neighbor 's AC unit was leaking on his carpet so the maintance guy drilled holes outside the unit and when neighbor would run his afterward it would drip down on my unit and it made my go bad . Neither has been replaced . The owner and mangement company won't fix anything in apartments they say they will if it is safety thing but even that is not true . this is a 80 unit complex with town homes and apartments haven''t been updated since the 70"s. It's so bad now we don't even have manger on here on site everyday , he only shows up to collect rent and leaves and only 1 maintance person who has to do everything even show apartments sometimes. It's like a trailer park without the wheels .
As a taxpayer who can't afford to buy groceries AND buy my medicine both don't think I should pay for her air conditioning or anyone else of Section 8 housing's air conditioning. Besides she is from Africa, she should be adapted for heat.
How do you know she's on Section 8? She could be paying her own rent. Really, since she's a citizen, I as a taxpayer would rather help her than continue to have my money go to Ukraine or to the "newcomers" who continue to jump our southern border. The "newcomers", "dreamers", whatever, have no business on our soil in the first place. But our taxes are giving them free housing and medical out the wazoo.
No, Black people are more likely to experience heat stress and die from heat-related illnesses than other racial and ethnic groups. Humidity in the south is also a factor.🤔
Maybe increase rent to landlords. Ac units costs lots of electricity that landlords have to pay but you have rent control that keep rents below 3% per year that doesn’t even cover cost of living increases such as property taxes, insurances, repairs, utility increases, etc. most landlords don’t make money until we sell the units.
In Ohio we buy our own air conditioner. As long as your windows open. Your doctor can write you a prescription for. A air conditioner and you can get your prescription filled a Walmart.
If it Is in your lease. Then it is actually protected. If they advertise hvac it in the contract. It apart of your lease. Otherwise it false advertisement and false premises.
The taxpayers should remove the ac units from the Tennessee capital, since they own the building.
All that would do is cause state employees to work from their air conditioned homes.

You have the right to buy a window unit.
You are right. All she needs to do is buy an a/c.
And if you looked up some more, there are landlords who will go after tenants for installing window units.
5000 BTU units are a joke. might work for closet. 6000 BTU isnt much better. 8000 is... $260+ ESP DURING SUMMER (buy in winter when on sale outdated units WM online or EBAY)... can run up to 15000 BTU units on normal house wires but WILL HAVE TO BE ON ITS OWN CIRCUT... 12 GAUGE wire, 20 amp breaker!!!!

Where’s her children, move to somewhere else
Easy fix, go buy a window ac unit
I bet all her a/c needs is a capacitor! If I was her neighbor I would fix it for free
Red state. No surprise.
Cry, self-entitled cupcake.
Thank you for helping her!!
I'm glad She can be comfortable now!
The landlord can fix the problem and raise the rent by a couple of dollars.
We are a selfish greedy species aren't we?
I have functioning central heat and air conditioner; I can't afford to run it, but I have it! Box fan, spray bottle, cool showers and wet tops if needed.
Tennessee needs to change that "no A/C required" law. SMH
What is the outdoor temperature during your summers
95-110 average. I had a heat stroke last year working in a storage room and it was 110 degrees. That was in August last year and it looks like we are headed for that again. Summers are also humid in the south so the heat index can be much higher than the temp.😊
Very sad. This summer is supposed to be one of the hottest on record. Makes breathing very difficult.
so who's gonna put in the $120.00 a/c in the window and is it allowed?
If the lease doesn't address putting in an air conditioner, the tenant can put one in, the same way if the lease doesn't address providing air conditioning, they don't have to, apparently. Small a/c don't need special electric outlets. Even most larger ones can be plugged into the wall. They have new ones that are a "saddle design" that fit half in and half out of the window, making installation easier. Two people can do this - even one - my handyman has installed a few for me for the rentals.
Even if the lease/rental agreement prevents a window A/C unit, just get one anyway. It will never hold up in court if they refuse to fix the existing A/C.
@@DistrustHumanz That's what I would do, too. I am a landlord, and these kinds of slum lords give all of us good landlords a bad name. I cannot imagine depriving one of my tenants of air conditioning in the summer, or heat in the winter. It's a moral thing, and we have a responsibility as landlords to take care of our tenants the best we can. If financially this is not workable, then do everyone a favor and sell the property and get out of the landlord business.
I was about to say go to Costco and get a Midea window ac that very efficient at Costco that go on sale for 239. Everyone makes the landlord out to be the bad one . Where is her family ?
Temperature control is a requirement for the integrity of most floorcovering, as well as a deterrent for keeping mold & mildew at bay in high humidity areas. Also, if you rent a unit with a working appliance, the landlord is responsible for the upkeep & function of said appliance. Cheap mf'ers.
Democrat heaven has no a/c just so they can spend eternity looking for someone else to pay for it. ………It’s the only way there truly happy taking someone else’s money to solve there problems … PS my child hood homes and cars had no air conditioning none ever. HERE I AM .😮AND YES it was hot as Florida gets
Aldi currently has portable AC units for $50. Quite affordable, not sure how well they work, but it could be worth looking into!
Did you see this in Tennessee?
I rented out 2 places on my farm and provided a window AC unit for each one. About 300 bucks each.
The dam renters stole/sold my AC units. I let renters buy their own window AC units from that point on.
No where in the Bill of Rights does it say property owners gotta provide AC for anybody. So it ant a right.
Somewhere along the line, renters need to buy their own stuff. I know I won't buy AC units again for renters. No matter what stupid law them politicians decide to write.

Will you just stop already! You've complained and complained. Do a better credit check, background check, criminal history, and job check before renting and get some insurance. Charge the same deposit as rent. Rents here in Nashville start at $1700 for a studio/one bedroom. That is an apartment complex she is living in who is bound to have a maintenance staff. There's no reason the air conditioning that was working when she signed her lease should not be working now. Get a grip on life, or get a mental professional.🤔
@@victorianmelody46 Who the f*** do u think u are sticking ur nose in my dam business? You get professional mental health help because paying 1700 bucks a month for rent, is looney tunes for sure. I bet that person don't even pay her own bills. Probly a loafer drawing a check.
I live out in the country and tried to help people who were down on their luck. Then just got stuck by thieves. No good deed goes unpunished. As far as criminal background checks goes, I am an ex cop/retired soldier and was robbed by people I have known for years.
And I will complain all I want to. Read 1st amendment beech.
I got 2 houses open. They staying open. I have even offered living quarters for farm labor but people too dang lazy to do real hard, hot work.
1700 a month....sheet...that's plain stupid...live within ur budget and quit whining yourself.
Btw, myob is a rule in Tennessee. Get back on ur lib horse and ride the Hades outta here.
It's plain criminal to charge that much money for rent. No wonder we got so many homeless people in USA.

Probly anybody on here wud complain about that.
"Without air we can't live and breathe." Said the ignit woman sitting in her own house wearing a mask like a moe-ron.
"ignit" 😂🤣😂🤣
Lol that mask
This woman has health issues, and the crew that is running in and out of her apartment bring germs with their equipment. She is protecting herself as her immune system is not the best. There is nothing wrong with her choosing to wear a mask in her own home when a group of strangers come traipsing in. Get over yourself.
Can they have ductless a/c systems installed ?
Tennessee definitely needs to change the law on that! That's ridiculous.
Tx resident.
ridiculous is the thought that air conditioning is a requirement. it's not. it's a privilege. i lived in many places over the years that did not have ac. people can claim climate change and how it's hotter now than it was then but this is not true. not everyone is breaking heat records which means, guess what? it's been hotter at some point in the past. if ac is not provided, go buy your own like i've done.
Joseph: You could use a few biology and geology classes at your local college.
@josephlalock8378 It's an apartment where rent is paid.. So yes, ac is required. Tennessee is one lawsuit away from changing that.
Renters are going to be treated like renters/tenants in Africa
1 yrs rent in advance
Bring your own appliances
When homeowners air-conditioning goes out we adapt with floor fans and window units! People need to be responsible for their own comforts!!
People in Europe bring their own appliances
I've never rented an apartment in an apartment complex that big that did not have central heat and air. The rent at that complex runs $1,150 - $1,474 plus utilities. Seems like they could afford a maintenance staff. A couple of weeks is one thing but three months is another.🤔
I'd be putting in my own portable AC unit in the window. Even if the lease says no window the ones portable you stick the tiny duct at windown even inside the screen. But this is just wrong
I was thinking the same thing
Move and take them to court?
It's called a window unit for a reason 😂🤣
But if people have a few hundred dollars there's some units that go inside with a hose that leads out window. I had one and loved it. But i understand not everyone have extra money to spend on things the rental property should be handling.
When I do go down there I need to make sure that I find a apartment that has it in the lease to have the air conditioning which is a basic human right
Be on the same side here everyone helps our neighbors
Air conditioners are a luxury item. If you want the luxury of air conditioning then that's on you.
And looks like she handled her business too... she has a new AC. So, obviously she knew the landlord was a demon.

Nice to see that she got some help. Is it spelled out in the rental agreement that air conditioning is not included or mandatory?

Amazon small portable air conditioners.
Renters in the US are seen as lesser beings.
Here in AZ it was 115 outside with a non functional ac.
So we bought our own.
Guess what the wiring is so bad only one AC can be used at a time.
How weird is Tennessee!
Despicable!!! In Tennessee, no one should be without air conditioning! Lung/breathing disorders make excessive heat deadly.
@@MisterMikeTexas then STFU and buy her an air conditioner Clyde.
No, Black people are more likely to experience heat stress and die from heat-related illnesses than other racial and ethnic groups. Humidity in the south is also a factor.🤔

Scummy landlords everywhere. And then they wonder why their tenants don't give af about taking care of their units.

Why can't they put an AC in the window
I hope they also installed it
This is evil.
Buy a window unit local churches should donate
Praying someone helped her set up that a/c unit. Only cooling a small area also helps with electric bills.
There needs to be a law in the landlord it needs to be given one hell of a fine
In Ohio we buy our own air conditioner. As long as your windows open. Your doctor can write you a prescription for. A air conditioner and you can get your prescription filled a Walmart.
Raise the cost of rent 😮

If it Is in your lease. Then it is actually protected. If they advertise hvac it in the contract. It apart of your lease. Otherwise it false advertisement and false premises.
