  • Today I’m thrilled to partner with Visit Yosemite | Madera County ( @VisitYosemiteMaderaCounty ) to put together a complete list of my favorite stops along Tioga Road for first-time visitors, as well as information on the best times to travel here. Join me as we explore Yosemite’s “high country” along this incredible stretch of Highway-120.
Tioga Pass is the highest elevation highway through the Sierra Nevada Mountains and in all of California. Tioga Road is a section of Highway-120 that cuts across the northern “high country” of Yosemite National Park. It connects US-395 near Mono Lake with Big Oak Flat Road on the west side of the park.
There are so many places to enjoy a Tioga Pass road trip, including Olmsted Point with views of Half Dome, Tenaya Lake, Lembert Dome, Tuolomne Meadow, and multiple waterfalls that flow early in the season.
For a complete First-Timers Guide to Tioga Pass, check out my full Flying Dawn Marie blog post at:

Consider stopping off to support the small businesses and local economies of the gateway communities surrounding the park. For great information on what to do inside Yosemite National Park and in Madera County directly to the south (along Highway 41), check out www.yosemitethisyear.com and / yosemitemadera

My girlfriend & I were just up there this past weekend. It was absolutely magical & breathtaking!! We parked near Tuolumne meadows, pulled out our chairs and just sat there for 20 mins. So quiet and peaceful 😊

The valley is beautiful, but this section of the park takes it to another level and is my favorite part of the park. Tenaya lake , TuoIumne Meadows, and the surrounding area are just stunning.

Nice fun video! 👌. Are there picnic tables at Tenaya lake? I haven’t seen any pictures or videos that show picnic tables.

It’s apparent from your video that plowing had nothing to do with the late opening. It’s a shame, because the pass is far more dramatic with the presence of snow.

Great video but sound is really low in volume and hard to understand at times.

I’m sorry you had a hard time hearing…I just record these videos on my iPhone as I’m out exploring (I started recording videos to share with my dad when illness prevented him from adventuring with me anymore). I intend for the videos to be a little raw & real time behind the scenes virtual visit to complement my travel blog posts but I do enjoy making them & perhaps someday I will be in a position to upgrade from my IPhone and invest the time and money into real editing software (and sound support) thanks for watching.😊
