I went through basic and ait training at Knox as a Cav Scout we had M-16 A1's. My weapon was a tired old dog probably Vietnam era weapon, but was still accurate. Only A 2's we had were M203's and for some reason no one liked the 3 round burst. Our TA-50 then is now prehistoric.

My takeaway from this wasn’t the evolution of furniture but rather the importance of a fore grip. Many view it as a piece relegated to the dustbin of irrelevance, when in fact it was and still is a vital component of leverage. When professional operators speak on real world applicability of a piece... I listen.

You don't mention that the -A1 triangular handguards were designed to fit any hand by sliding up or down to find the "sweet spot". They did chip easily, but were sturdy enough from a functional standpoint. We would tape them up to prevent rattling and they did make noise it you slapped it against a branch, for example, but I prefer them on the whole.

You mentioned that other nations would buy the A2 front handguard and keep using their A1 rifles with A2 front handguards. Well, Paul Harrell, notable guntuber, typically uses a Colt AR-15 A1 as his demonstration rifle, and his front handguard broke, so he replaced it with an A2 handguard as well.

I have really big hands and smaller grips are always a pain for me, especially when having to bend my trigger finger so much to actuate the the bang switch. Colt XM177E2 , Colt 723 , Colt 727 and Diemaco C8 are my absolute favorite Fixed Carry Handle Carbines . I own all of them now . Had to build out XM177E2 with Brownells Receiver and rest is all Colt .
USN was the only ones that adopted M16A3 . That contract was awarded to FNMI . Those A3s are hard to track down these days .
M16E1 and M16A1 I believe used Zytel for the Handguard but could be wrong..
I picked up KAC RIS in 2002 and didnt get the RAS until 2006. RIS did not have the set screw and the RAS did..
LMT SOPMOD and VLTOR Stocks , LMT Rear or ARMS Rear sights is what they used early GWOT for their M4A1 Carbines . The M4A1 SOCOM Profile came out in 2003ish . Young lady at CRANE created the drawing to Colt . Colt had absolutely nothing to do with SOCOM Profile and Colt also had nothing to do with MK18 . LMT and Crane are godfathers of the MK18 Barrel . Colt did have the SOUL SOURCE M4 Family Contract for US DOD from 2001 to 2013..
DD Won SOCOM Contract in 2006 for their RIS Rails..
KAC NT4 was one of the first bomb Proof Cans . NSW and CAG used them the absolute most of their MK18s back in the day . I do not know if NT4 was for sure used on 416s when theh first got introduced but I assume they were because SF SOCOM RC hadn't been adopted yet..
LMT ENHANCED BCG/BOLT came out also in 2004ish time period . SOCOM wanted to adopted it because it was superior and also Colt was having QC Issues . It was not adopted because LMT ENHANCED would not cycle reliably in Rifle length gas system . LMT ENHANCED BCG/BOLT was designed for Car Length gas system . Adding that 3rd vent hole was paramount . Their ENHANCED Bolt are virtually indestructible. I can't remeber if it was Crane or CAG but they did 36K round test on one and gave up because they couldn't BRAKE it ..
Dream Optic is NF 2.5-10×24 that NSW used MK12 MOD 1 SPRs. I have Centurion MK12 MOD 1 SPR URG and I want that optic so bad to have an accurate Clone Upper . I do need to build out NSW RECCE Rifle . I have the Douglas Barrel and Reciever . Just need the RAIL and Optic..
I could go on for hours talking about US MIL Small Arms and Accessories. I'm for sure a geek when it comes to Mil Small Arms and accessories. .

Nice one. I thought lots of the foregrips got popular just to be able to hold the weight differently doing hours and hours of 'house visits'. Are those buttstocks that allow for an adjustable cheek rest too flimsy or heavy to not be used?

Always enjoy your vids and was wondering what you were hiding behind the end table stuffed in the patio door?

My first issued rifle was a Vietnam era M16.. had a 6 digit serial number but was still accurate despite the crowning.

Again, nother great vid! History of form over function. Way back, i had a full size Colt A2 and a Russian marked AK. That being said, still not sure all this modern sh*t is THAT great. Yeah, i love my aim points and lazers and all that, but when it comes to sheeer simplicity...i can still hit a target in the dark with an dive grade everready and iron sights with near 100 percent accuracy. The truth: there is seldom a place so dark, that point shooting and a basic light source cant get you through. (not that im a crack shot. just train) But as a gear guy, who loves shinies, im am sure someone has retired off of me.

The way Coch grips those forends (and later says how much he likes BOYd's wood), you know he was in the Navy.
