Well, I can’t say I’m not shocked, but I completely understand and agree with your reasoning, Andrew. It’s a business decision pure and simple and it’s not like you’ve fallen out of love with Fuji, the joy of the X100v tells us that. Go for it, make it happen the best way you can. I’m sure you will be successful and much happier now that you know the corporate world isn’t for you anymore. Bravo, my friend, most of us watching this channel are here for and because of you, not because of what brand you shoot. I wish you every success and much fulfillment going forward. Make it make your heart sing đŸ„°đŸ˜Ž I’m going to follow your other channel too, I was a mtb bike guide in the alps for a few years and I’ve ridden in many of the US mtb meccas including Moab, Fruita, Crested Butte etc.

I think this is great. Yeah, I first found you because you were all about Fuji and I had a Fuji, but as I’ve grown in my photography (many thanks to you), I’ve come to realize that the camera is a tool and knowing your tool and it’s limitations is more important than what gear you use. As a hobbyist, I’m pretty happy with my Fuji gear and it’s so fun to shoot with. If I were a professional my needs would be very different. I think it’s amusing that people get so tribal about camera brands :)

I completely respect your decision on switching brands. I've been shooting Fuji for a number of years, and I can relate to the shortcomings you mentioned. I've often thought of switching to Canon or Sony. But photography is just a hobby for me, and it is expensive to switch. You're making a living with your cameras. I don't blame you for wanting better and more durable tools. Anyway, much success to you and Denae! Looking forward to more content from you!

I found your channel after choosing a Fuji X-T2 a couple of years ago getting back into photography. The passion for photography grew and has led to expanding to a X-H2 and better lenses and paid work. It's working for me and I love Fuji.
I've not dropped a camera yet, but it's probably going to happen. I have put a smallrig cage on the X-H2 in anticipation that I will drop it one day (which won't help whatever lens is on it). I have also taken out business insurance on the gear, but that isn't a fix for Canon service response vs Fuji.
Having said all of that, you've made an informed choice on a tool and there's nothing wrong with that. Now that I'm in with Fuji, right now I've got no reason to change. If I were to change I think I'd be perfectly comfortable with different systems (I love the dials on the x-t2 but had no issues switching to the x-h2). I think I'd probably look at Canon or Sony if I were to switch.
    I'm still sticking around :)

Andrew, I've watched your channel for years. I have the Fujifilm X100T, X-T30 and now the X-T5. I eagerly awaited your videos regarding Fujifilm. I'll continue to subscribe, but I'm afraid if you become a Canon channel or stop discussing Fujifilm, I'll probably (and sadly) stop watching. There is no reason for me to watch Canon, Nikon, Sony or any other camera CZcams channel as it serves no purpose to me. My video interests lie in Fujifilm, the art of photography and post-processing (mainly in Lightroom). I hope you give me reason to watch Andrew Goodcamera, as I've truly enjoy you and your content. I sincerely respect your decision and wish you the best.

Back when I shot mostly weddings I'd shoot on a Canon, but in my personal bag was a Nikon. Nowadays, it's a Fuji just because the x70 and xpros do what my ol Nikon did; inspired me to shoot. Maybe one day it will be replaced by another brand. Cameras are tools, just cause a wrench CAN hammer a nail doesn't mean a hammer isnt nice to have. Even better is having both. 😉 Love the work, keep it up!!

I could tell it was tough for you to drop this video. I also recently started the switch from Fuji to Canon (X-T4 to R5) for lens quality, object tracking AF, and higher resolution for printing, and I feel the same pain about leaving Fuji. Their cameras inspire me, and the colors are so great even in RAW, but eventually you have enough times where lack of performance (in IQ/AF/etc) leaves you wanting, and you have to start considering other options. I will still keep some stuff around like you as well (i.e. X100V!), but for my landscapes and other "critical" work (for which I don't yet get paid, lol), it'll be the R5.
I know you'll do great with the R6II setup. Please, please do a review, from your perspective. We all need more videos about specific use cases and why a product works well for that user, instead of spec sheet ramblings and influencer hype.
Keep up the great work, and keep that fire burning, Andrew. Thank you for sharing with us and I hope we hear from you again soon. -JD

Man! I had durability problems with Sony. The rear wheel keep stuck to the right in my A6000 and the A7 (the first one) was a nightmare. Canon and Nikon have the best durability. Canon is ahead in autofocus, but no by much, now I have the Z30 and Z50 and with the latest firmware it workd well. If you are tight in budget try EF and EFS lenses, they work like RF with the adapter. The STM ones are great for video.

I'm like you, I love Fujifilm cameras, but there's no doubt that Canon cameras are much more rugged, they can really take a beating without breaking a sweat. You gotta go with what works best for you. The R6 MkII (like most Canon cameras tbh) is a super good camera, so I wish you a lot of happiness with it!

Just our of curiosity, did you try out the XH2S if it's capable for your needs? Heard and read so many good things about it lately Iam considering to switch the other direction, but from Sony to Fuji. Already got all the lenses I need - using already with a XE4 for personal stuff and I've finally have the feeling the XH2S is at least the level I need for Hybrid Photo/Video for Weddings (of course beeing spoiled by Sony's AF)

The videos you've made that I like best are when you shoot roadside stuff. Abandoned gas stations, roadside restaurants, etc. You always seemed pretty happy doing that and pretty passionate about that genre. For me, Fuji was a financial choice. I couldn't afford other camera bodies and still have money to buy decent lenses. With my X-T3 I got the 18-55, a grip, extra batteries, extra charge all still in the boxes and in basically new condition. All of that together was still only about half the cost of some bodies. And, I really enjoy the camera and it's performance. It works for me. Funny thing, the last camera I had before the X-T3 was the Ricoh X-RP I bought back in 1984. Ironically, the X-T3 had a familiar feel with the manual dials on top. I take mine everywhere including hikes out in the woods. I have some Fuji lenses. The 18-55 came with the body. This past fall I was able to finally afford a version 1.0 XF56 and a XF90 because of the selloff due to all of the new bodies and lenses being announced. I got both of those lenses in new condition at great prices. The 56 was only six months old. Still had warranty time left on it. But, the owner wanted the WR version. Anyway, like everyone has pointed out, it's not the brand that matters. You do what you need to do to get things done. Period. Happy Easter to you and your family. Take care.....

I really like that you take us on this important step in your journey. And I completely understand: if I dropped my stuff often Fuji would be a no go. As it stands I have 3 Fuji's of which one is usually a backup, and THEN I have the 6D tank parked in my closet in case everything goes wrong. Not into video so that makes it easy. I do wonder if the R6 is built like the old 5D range AND I wonder if good strap habits could help :P Like: never touch a camera without looping the strap around your arm first, for instance. That's the way I started and built my not-dropping-my-camera foundation.

I'm in the same spot. My X-T2 just finally died after 6-7 years. I babied it, but it got trashed anyway. EVF broke, mech shutter broke, won't receive power from the battery.
After using the X70 for a few years I now know that my style and use case requires the flip up screen and compact size. I went to buy an X-E4, but they discontinued it, and used prices are currently 3x MSRP because of the hype. I really don't want a big camera without the flip up, and currently the only in-production models are GFX, two X-H models, the X-T5, and X-S20.
I hope they release something for me soon, or I might have to move over to Canon to Sony since they're more compact and lighter rn now. I hope not because I have lenses, but idk how long I can wait with no camera. 😏

I was all-in on Fuji - every 1.4 (and 1.2) prime, red baged zooms etc - but various minor frustrations with my gear lead me to try out Sony. I now have Sony a7RV as my main pro camera, but I ended up picking up a GFX 50R as my 'pleasure' camera, as - when it's good - there's no system that gives me the same joy of shooting as Fuji does.

In my eyes Andrew you was almost the last mainly Fujifilm shooter among big CZcamsrs. "The last fortress has been defeated" I sometimes say... Anyway I know you have been using variety of brands, you did amazing comparisons too. I'm subscribing the channel since your video with music band where you was hesitating between Fujfiilm XH (1st generation) and GH5 and I remember your emotions with that choice and your suggestions to do rational choices with this site with points when you have huge dilemma. My dilemma was similar because I was torned between GH5 and X-T3. I remember GH5 won by 1 point in my pointing summary which was 2% margin in my case and... still I went all the way for Fujifilm. After few years do I regret it? Yes and no. Few years back I knew nothing about cameras but I knew about 3 most common sensor sizes: MFT, APS-C and FF. So I was considering something suitable for a beginner and I've decided to take something between MFT or APS-C and forget about FF which was in my mind only for professionals and I could look ridiculous with that kind of camera. Also I wanted buy few lenses straight from the start and price difference between APS-C and FF lenses is also insane (especially native, fast lenses). I had feeling that X-T3 with all those manuals and aesthetics will be perfect camera for learning photography and videography.
Anyway after few years I think it was best and not the best decision. Best because I've learned a lot, and all manual controls, even complicated menu and settings to adjust for a better workflow, autofocus settings, many photo shooting with only manual focusing have taught me a lot. Also in theory bigger difference is between MFT camera and FF, instead of APS-C and FF. Although my friends with cameras - all of them no matter professionals or amateurs use FF bodies and always remind me APS-C is not enough for most professional work. Maybe in my case partially yes because most of my lenses are F2 (the brightest is 1.4 but its cheap manual lens and the darkest is 16-80 f4 kit lens).
And now after few years of photography and videography trainings I wish sometimes to have something more reliable especially with autofocus, subject tracking and better low light, better Lightroom raw file cooperation. I was thinking to switch to Sony, Canon or new Panasonic FF system.
And I totally understand your points - especially that one with video shooting (because luckily mine X-T3 has never fallen down!)
But on the other hand I still love this system, of course you have to be more patient but this is Fuji. And switching all system can be painful and expensive.
By the way, you look really similar to husband of my sister who gave me brand new (or perfectly refurbished) Helios 44M with fuji X mount adapter :)

I still use fuji for mostly video work, and my x-t3 is now my 'fun' camera, because I do really enjoy the experience of creating with it. But I feel the difference using a z7ii - it just feels like a solid tool for work. Totally agree with your decision being an ex Canon shooter myself, but just my 2 cents worth, yes the XT4 isn’t the most durable and I wouldn’t rely on that only for what I do weddings and events, however the XH1 and recent XH2 are in different league and I think are built as good as the Canon,
I had my peak design strap brake whilst around my shoulder and the XH1 hit the concrete with a solid thud, but to my amazement it didn’t flinch, absolutely worked perfect, it’s fallen of tripods, been on rainy weddings thru Australian Summer heatwave days, honestly it’s been as durable as my Canon 1Dx which says a lot cause that is a tank, I’m hopping the XH2 is the same, so far by the feel of it, It seems very similar build quality. But yeah I had 5D 2,3 & 4, as well and they didn’t miss a beat either and have to agree compared to XT4 you can tell the XT4 isn’t quite up there.

The Bedford centre hasn't been running for the majority of the time the X system has existed. They're also still hamstrung by part availability. For most of the time Fuji X has existed, Fuji's UK service has been atrocious, and though it's become better recently, it's still way behind other companies. As we speak I have an XF 18mm f/1.4 that is being repaired in Japan (after originally sending it away seven weeks ago...) because the UK centre couldn't do anything with it.

Recently switched from Fuji to Sony after shooting Fuji since 2014... Held out as long as I could, but Fuji just got left in the dust by Canon and Sony autofocus and didn’t hit the mark with X-H2S/H2/T5 for me. Having confident autofocus has made my professional career so much easier and I’m kicking myself for not switching sooner.
Still holding on to my X-T1 and X100s for fun shooting though đŸ–€

    • @ryanarnst
      @ryanarnst Pƙed rokem

@@andy.photoandfilm My problems weren't with the X-H2s in particular - just that Fujifilm haven't fixed their biggest issues with their latest generation of cameras. My dealbreakers were:
      1. Lag/jumpiness with many of their focus-by-wire lenses. For video applications, you have to rely on spotty video AF, or use manual focus only lenses (like Samyang). Manually focusing with Fuji lenses is a pretty terrible experience.
      2. Though they've definitely shown improvement with the latest generation of cameras, they're still far behind Canon and Sony subject/eye tracking and general AF accuracy, both in photo and video. I needed a bigger leap than what they gave us.
      3. The Tamron 35-150 F/2-2.8. Didn't see something this versatile coming to the Fujifilm system any time soon. This lens is just unbeatable for event work, which comprises most of my photo jobs.
      4. (More minor...) They're hanging on to the X-Trans color array, which just isn't really necessary anymore. Lightroom is not optimized for editing Fuji raws, and I wasn't interested in switching to Capture One to take full advantage of my camera.
I love Fuji colors, build quality, and I way prefer the new video codec options in the X-H2s to my A7iv, but these just weren't enough to keep me in the system. Always a tough call for the wallet! But shooting events, portraits, and wildlife has never been easier than it is now.

This is completely understandable. The main reason I went with Fuji was the size. I climb mountains, and just realized I cannot bring my set of canon lenses with me. Even the 70d weighted a ton compared to the Fuji camera. No regrets so far. You have to get the tool for your work.

I sold my Fujis but kept my old X10 which is a priceless relic but feels as though the top might pop off if I squeezed too hard. I want to use it more but I’m afraid to drop it. So after selling my other Fuji’s, I picked up an old Canon 6D in good condition and one lens. It’s a tank and I feel less worried about hurting it.

I’m “normally” a pretty careful person and to be fair, I’ve only ever used older Nikon dslrs and I could only ever do photos because video sucks on them. And canon and Sony is super expensive in order to get what I want. I’d hope there’s videos about taking care of Fuji cameras and making them last cause that’s about all I have money for. You use what you want. I wish I could afford an R6 or R5, or an A7SVI but I don’t know if I ever will. I’m really excited to have a somewhat modern camera for video and filmmaking and photo.

And my camera with the rf 85 1.2 fell down onto the floor yesterday and not even a scratch. Great build quality. I also shoot Leica Q and Fujifilm + Pentax K-1 and vintage lenses. But if I were to work as a full time content creator I'd chose the Canon or maybe a Sony. Very reliable, plus canon colors are great. I decided last summer to go back to Nikon, One mirrorless body but mainly DSLRs for the Solid and Reliable-ness of what those cameras served me.
I intend on keeping one or two Fuji bodies and a couple lenses but like you said, they are not meant for heavy use, Fun and Inspiring YES but not when things time and money are on the line... besides I'm getting tired of charging a stack of batteries after every shoot.
Funny, I joined your channel back in the day because you were also a fuji shooter, and now look at us, both going back home to where it began with lessons learned and picking up different nuggets on the way referring to what Fujis to hang on to because of their fun factor and a break from the Real workhorses.

Fujis are not durable enough for shooting in your garage? Dude my Fujis have been in sand, mud, snow, and have fallen from 1-2m height without any hiccups. And af is not good enough for shooting your bike restorations? There’s people filming masterpieces with Fujis, without any help. You don’t need to make stupid excuses for switching gear. Even though I've been using Fuji since the X-Pro 1, this is why I've never gotten rid of my Canon kit, too. Here in the UK, Fuji's service for many years was even worse than in the US; even their own reps would openly complain about it at trade shows. One of my two local camera stores actually stopped keeping Fuji products in stock and relegated the whole brand to by-order only, simply because dealing with Fuji warranty claims (which at the time had to go through the point of purchase, i.e. via the store) was too much of a hassle. It's only been the last year and a half or so that service has started to improve here, though it still takes longer to get anything fixed or replaced than with any other company.
The R6II will do you well, I'm sure. I've only inspected one briefly, but it does seem to be built about as well as the R5 (which I own and still looks and works as-new despite not particularly taking care of it) and R3. It's definitely better-built than the first R6, and even that was comparable to the 6D. So if the 6D/5DII worked for you, these cameras certainly will. I rarely _enjoy_ my Canons as much as I enjoy my Fujis, but Canon's the one that's always gotten the work done.

Understand your view here. I am myself straddling systems now. Love Fuji and I have the most lenses with it now but I got Sony with its long birding lens as Fuji has its limitations there. Also for fun stuff I am exploring old DSLRs like Nikon D700 as I have few Nikon lens from my Film cameras. One downside is the constant indecision in choosing which camera to use. I have decided to run my 7 year old XT2 for as long as possible but once it breaks I need to decide on the next path. Using other systems though got me to start using RAW for Fuji also and I am enjoying that.

Your perspective in this video is exactly why I'm a working professional that shoots Canon for paid work. No shade to other brands, but, for "tools of the trade", Canon is it. Here in the US, CPS is awesome, and Canon's professional line of gear is made to be used every day, day in and day out. I know they get a lot of heat from internet people for various perceived technical shortcomings and such, but in reality, in my experience, for paid work, for the stuff that *really matters*, and puts the bread on the table, they set a pretty high bar. I know that I can rely on my equipment to get the work done and get that money, and even though it might have technical limitations on paper, out in the real world, when actually working on paid work, most of that stuff ends up being non-issues (which is why I wonder if some of those internet people actually use any of the gear they're complaining about to actually do work they are getting paid for).
I have both the R6II and the R6 (as a backup body) for my every day work kit and it's easily the best performance for the price. The 24-105 f/4L is also great. If you want a good wider angle lens that is faster, the RF35/1.8IS is a good one and can be had for reasonable cash if getting used. I also have the RF50/1.8, and the RF16/2.8, RF70-200/2.8 (total workhorse, and it's awesome, easily my most used for the type of work I do), and RF100/2.8 Macro (also awesome). I'd be happy to answer any questions about any of them if you ask.

I shot with my X-T3 for three years and had basically no issues. About a month ago, I switched to the X-T5. So far, during shoots, I've had 1) The camera randomly forgets there's a lens attached. I have to turn off the camera, take off the lens, remount it, and turn the camera back on to fix this. 2) The camera gives me a temperature warning after only a couple hours of shooting (just photos, on single shot, with IS set to "only while shooting") in fairly moderate conditions, even on economy mode, though it has not fully shut off on me yet. 3) The camera will flash a "card read" error with one or more of my SD cards, and I have to take out the card, shut the camera off, and put the card back in, sometimes two or three times before it will read correctly. It's not the card, because the card works fine on every other device.
ANYWAYS, yeah, I've about had it with this camera. It's giving me a little PTSD from my nightmarish experience with the X-H1. I've been so frustrated I've considered leaving the brand. I haven't partially just because it would cost me so much money and time (from a workflow standpoint). I also shoot 90% of my work on film, so dropping the cash to make that switch with my digital system doesn't make a ton of sense for the time being. All of that is to say, I totally get it. I love Fuji too, but man, get it together Fuji.

I couldn't believe it because it's one of their most expensive bodies. It broke shortly after my 2 year warranty so I now have to see this camera shop can fix it. I'm extremely disappointed with Fuji. It's the only one I had issue with though. It seems like their more recent models have been having these issues. Pretty much when they started outsourcing to China.
It's unfortunate because all Fuji shooters love the shooting experience. No other brands comes close. My other camera is the Sony A7RIV which is technically a way better camera but I still love my Fujis. I now have some thinking to do in the future...

I may not enjoy using it as much, but if it gets the job done, that's what matters. For something you need a proper body and a long lens, for something else you just need an action camera, or even a good cell phone.
