    I buy and sell cards on eBay. When I buy cards, I gently snip the tops of the bubble envelopes and save them. When I sell, I reuse the same envelopes and tape over the old shipping labels with the new labels. Another great way to save a few cents. Thank you for the great video!

    Very important to get a reliable scale! As a postal employee, the other tip I will give you is to always round up on the weight. For example, if your package weighs 3.1 oz, you need to enter 4oz for the shipping weight, or your customers will be charged the postage due for the item.

    Regarding the cardboard/filler cards, I ALWAYS use them when shipping. I just recycle Amazon boxes and trace the toploader around the cardboard and cut a bunch at once and slip one or two inside of the team bag, fits perfectly! Sure, it takes a little more time but it's so worth it, especially on a high value card. And as long as it's under 3-4 ounces, the shipping costs are the same. Great video!!

  • @heyoheyoh
    @heyoheyoh Před 2 lety +1

    I always use cardboard just because a top loader itself still has some give but a cardboard sandwich is virtually unbendable and really doesn't have any impact on first class shipping costs. One card in a toploader sandwiched between 16th inch corrugated cardboard in a team bag plus business card and two base card freebies in a penny sleeve weighs 1.45 ounces. If I'm shipping two cards, I can fit them inside of a team bag sandwiched between 3 cut USPS box cardboard pieces (one in front, one in back and one between the two cards). It weighs 2.5 ounces and is just as rigid as the one card method. There is a bit of an extra cost using the corrugated cardboard but if you're shipping enough cards it's pretty marginal.
    One other tip for using painters tape - I make a pull tab. So, cut about a half inch long piece and fold a small tab on one end. It makes the tape easier to remove because you don't need to use your fingernail to get it started. Just pull up the tab on the back, boom. It removes cleanly and easily. If you want to class it up a bit, the round Avery removable labels work pretty well, too. I laser print my store/site name on the labels and use the tab method to seal the top loader. Just kinda classes it up a bit and looks nice for marketing purposes. My goal is make people remember me so the next time they're looking for something, they see my name and remember "Hey. The last card I got from this guy had really good, cool packaging" and, from my experience, it works. Probably 75% of my business is repeat customers.

    • @MikeyBcards
      @MikeyBcards  Před 5 lety +1

      I can add that to the future video list for sure Eric. In the meantime I'll tell you that my preferred methods are to put those items in a cardboard box with either bubble wrap or packing peanuts. I'll typically use USPS and do priority mail or ground service when sending packages of that size. I know a lot of people like to use flat rate boxes to ship things like binders and a lot of cards. That can certainly be less expensive. Just ensure the cards won't come out of their protective cases.

      Those are usually Buy it Now variation listings and shipping in plain white envelopes. At $1, the seller is usually losing money if they sell just one card to a buyer. This is because the stamp is 55 cents , the Ebay fee is 10 cents and the PayPal minimum fee on anything is around 39 cents.
      They are hoping people will buy multiple cards. When multiples are purchased the price of the stamp does not change, EBay fee is 10% and now the PayPal goes up a few cents. So $2 worth of cards would cost 55 cents for the stamp, 20 cents EBay fee and around 41 cents for a PayPal fee. Now they are making 84 cents. Each additional card purchased only increases that margin.
      Set builders love these listings because they usually only need a few cards to finish up their set and it is hard to find places that sell singles or commons.
      I usually start my lowest variation listings at $1.25 with 25 cents per card for shipping (max out at $2.50). This ensures that I will not lose money on the deal if one card is purchased. On lesser valued cards, I also offer a buy 3 get 1 free promotion (4 total cards) to entice people to buy multiples. It also helps them reduce the cost per card they are paying.
      I like it because I break a lot of stuff to grade and what the hell am I going to do with the rest of the stuff besides let it sit in boxes for the next 20 years.

      If you're trying to send single cards for cheap, you could send via PWE (plain white envelope). Helps you break even or maybe even profit a little. Make sure to highlight that in the description so you can avoid negative reviews from those who were expecting bubble mailers.

    I'm just wondering how it's that cheap to ship. I don't have a printer so I go to the post office. The cheapest first class option is always $3.70 something and sometimes it's over $4 if it's going to certain states.

      depending on how much you ship it might be worth it to get a cheap printer or a thermal printer. Save all those trips to the post office and save on postage.

    What's the best way to ship wax packs individually in the mail. I won a bunch of 1980's baseball card wax pack cases at auction and want to sell the packs individually on eBay. The price of shipping needs to be low but still protect the pack. The cheaper the shipping the cheaper I can as for the packs to sell them better. Any help would be great. Thanks.

      It's very hard to achieve "good" packaging while also being cheap. I would suggest placing the packs in a team/graded card bag and then putting a heavy piece of cardboard on both sides to prevent corners being bent. Then ship in a larger (maybe 5x7) bubble mailer with a handwritten "do not bend" on the envelope. Shipping will run $3.60 or higher via this method. In my opinion there is not a good way to ship in a plain white envelope with an unopened pack. Way too easy for damage to occur.

    Do you still need a stamp with the PayPal print?

      no -- the postage is paid through your PayPal account
