  • Around 1:15 in this video, you'll see a white two-story house. It's been abandoned since I first hopped off here in 1989. I stayed for a weekend in it and it's still there!

What made Stobe so great to this was he didn't curse, he narrated and edited his videos. He showed beautiful scenery, gave locations and told about some of the towns history. His vids. were never boring rides. He was one true hobo that will never be matched. He truly was genuine and caring.

Beautiful land mostly untouched except by natives that cared for the land. And yet the men had reason to worry about the Natives in some areas and outlaws in other areas. Natural man law at its height in North America.

I've read/watched interviews where he talked about trying to board a train while drunk and he fell and the wheel went right in front of his face and nearly killed him. He had lots of near-misses. Loved the guy's videos, but wish he would have gotten some help for his alcohol addiction. I know that hobos by nature and historical meaning typically drink a lot to help with the lifestyle, but his was excessive. He could go through a 30 pack in 1-2 days by himself. During his latter videos he talked about maybe settling down and getting a job at some point. He seemed to be getting tired of the hobo lifestyle. Ironic that he died before he got the chance to do so. I know that he was in the Coast Guard for a while.

When did they move and for what reasons? Did they intentionally build there or, more likely, was it there when the railroad arrived and they didn't want to sell? You get my point. That house was really cool! Wonder who built it? Great video, loved the scenery. Gave me some good ideas for my model railroad.

Shoestring you have been everywhere gorgeous scenery but i bet that railcar wasn't much on for comfort. I'd have to have something to sit on, metal to butt ain't my idea of a comfortable ride. Just watching your older videos between the new ones stay safe my friend

That's really nice scenery. Out west has some great views! Also if you look near the end of the video to your right, did they remove track or is that just a dirt road next to the track?

I think Stobe was out there on one of his last trips before he headed east.
