    I actually ended up getting this tablet to complete a project for my university robotics project which is an Arduino R/C car and my team didn't really pan it out very well since we designed the car to run off of bluetooth in stead of radio and none of us were willing to give the university one of our phones to be used in the display with the car ( its supposed to be displayed at a children's science center), and I can confirm this tablet is better off being used as a hammer than a tablet.

    • @IkBenBenG
      @IkBenBenG Před 7 lety +6

      I have a tablet similar to that, though mine is only single-core 0.8GHz. You never need an fps counter for benchmarks indeed since you can easily count the frames by hand. Benchmarks probably would't even start though, as over 90% of apps from google play just crash when loading. The only thing I ever used it for was GBC emulation, which it could barely handle at full speed (though the controls were awkward since the resistive touchscreen could only track one touch). Watching movies on it was also possible, though the player could take over 10 minutes to finally load.
      So I guess it's pretty obvious that this tablet is now in some drawer somewhere and hasn't been turned on for years.

    These tablets are actually really really good for hobbyist/semi-professional electrical engineers since the processor can be de soldered easily by hand and used for embedded linux systems. I actually picked up the exact tablet Linus has in the video and it has the "Allwiner A13" embedded SOC, some ddr2 ram and a 4gb flash module, plus a neeto 802.11g and BT board. there exists forums of people who write linux kernels and drivers for these chipsets making them good linux playthings.

      Tom Bunyon I heavily criticize that as owning most of ever economy run Android hardware I can tell a huge performance difference from a brand like ZTE and Samsung who are direct sponsor of snapdragon vs obsure Android tablet. An exception to directly sponsored hardware might be Alcatel which is fairly average of what you expect but a major innovation of Alcatel is the thinker bezzle that asorbe a shock and hardware like a tablet in s phone for easy repair. Even so given Alcatel advantage I still consider the sponsored budget hardware the better performance.

      The earphones, after some minutes of use in that shit would be stuck in this shitty sound quality even in other devices.
      Not to mention that to be able to install android 2.3.4 i had to overclock it. And to be able to android 2.3.4 *exist* in it, i had to make a 512mb pagefile (virtual memory) in the sd card.
      Its screen resolution is so low that any crt tube tv at 5cm of your eyes looks better.
      I was able somehow to run in slowmotion a snes emulator, and watch 240p youtube (and 144p when avaiable) with several stutters.
      I had to use this piece of shit for months, because my s3 broke and i didnt had the money to buy a new phone.

    • @Logarithm906
      @Logarithm906 Před 7 lety

      So i run a laptop (don't use it anymore), home built computer and a £150 10' tablet. The half decent mid range tablet has basically replaced my laptop and i'd fairly happily order stuff through it if my computer died.
      Not sure i'd trust something quite that cheap though. And tbh while the tablet is great, for multiple tabs stuff (like comparing components) you really need a decent amount of ram behind you or a lot of patience with waiting for stuff to reload.
      Basically on my tablet i spend too much time reloading tabs/pages that dropped out of cache/memory and the mediocre processor kinda sucks but that's what you get with ARM and "desktop" webpages

    • @ProtoType4588

      Blair Schirmerx most isues are related to software and if you have a hardware isue your motherboard would beep at you each beep is different that you search up on a mobile phone but since most are software related meaning windows wont work anymore the fixes are very easy get a copy of windows if you dont have it then download one of piratebay then use rufus to make the iso you got of windows from piratebay into a bootable usb
      but if you got hardware failure just use a phone any current phones wil outperform that crappy tablet even with same spec as phones run android instead of windows which is way more optimized for low performing hardware

      That would probably be a boring video. Mostly everything would work. Sometimes something could have trouble booting, devices showing up, maybe a BSOD. But not that often. Probably would need to leave the gear for hours on max load to see something interesting even happen at all. If at all. Fresh out of the box I'd expect them to have shorter life span but would probably work.

    • @Toastmaster_5000
      @Toastmaster_5000 Před 7 lety

      I think it'd be an interesting test. PSUs are one of those things you really don't want to go cheap on if you care about the rest of your system or have an interest in overclocking. Testing a cheap unit by reaching maybe 80% its advertised rate while running Unigine Heaven and Prime95 for several hours would be a good way to show people what happens when you push cheap units too hard.
      If they have a way to simulate something like a brownout while doing multimeter testing, that could be pretty interesting too. Keep in mind a lot of cheap units don't offer good protection for your parts.

I have an earlier DV7t-3000 that suffered from overheating, the solution was the carve a chunk out of the bottom of the case over the primary CPU fan with a dremel, smooth out the edges, then use an adhesive with some mesh to act as a vent, 90 minutes of work to solve a simple overheating issue.
