How do you decide what rips to make? Do you just take two songs that you think would be interesting together, or is there a process?
Thanks for the question! Here's my way-too-long explanation lol:
It isn't this way EVERY time, but generally, it goes like this:
- I start with a target song that I wanna use. Be it "credits song for my death", "BIG SHOT", or "Dummy!"...I pick a song whose melody I want to use.
- I then scroll through my template FLP folder looking for a song that I think would mashup well with it.
- Once I find a base song where I can kind of hear it in my head, I'll try making a key portion of it to test if it'll work.
- If it sounds good, I'll make the rest of the song.
For this video, I followed that exact process:
- One day I was like "I really wanna put Dummy! into something...but what?"
- I scrolled through my FLP folder to find a song that it might sound good with.
- "Heartache? Nah. Bonetrousle? I don't think so. Amalgam? Hmm...yeah I could see that."
- I made the opening portion to see if it sounded good.
- It passed my personal bar of quality, so I went ahead and made the rest.
There are a few rips I've made that don't follow that process (usually they end up being the inverse, where I start with a base song like Pandora Palace and then select a song I want to put into it), but that's how I make most of them.
Many rips never pass that initial check. I'll start making it, decide that I don't like how it sounds, and if I don't think it's salvageable/fixable, I'll abandon it. Rest in peace, Field of Hopes and Dreams x Buoy Base Galaxy...

Ay man! I see you’re also a fan of mixing another medium with other songs! Just a nod tho, Another medium shares the same key as BIG SHOT, and shares the same notes as A CYBERS WORLD?. If you know your music theory, those should be fun to mix!
