Made me laugh when she said "What is anything sort of happened?" Haha. @jasl9987
Retired U.K. police officer here, for us scene preservation, cross contamination, correct collection of evidence and continuity of evidence is absolute BASIC police work! Not only is is ESSENTIAL in a homicide investigation it’s essential in EVERY investigation be it a theft, burglary, assault or basic shoplifting any errors in any one of those steps and a case can be lost they are literally one of the first things you are taught during training.
There are other POV.
I'm sure it's part of the basic training here in US, too. I'm not sure if all these issues are from corruption or laziness or ridiculous bureaucracy (like oh technically, the person is not declared dead so state won't come out and investigate... Which, why not, cuz there could be a crime occurred that injured the person) or a combination. Coming from Murdaugh country where other obvious crimes were confused, not identified as crimes initially, reports or videos/dash cam was deleted, and interviews weren't done of suspects, I see similarities here. I'm wondering why police didn't wear body cams -cuz they fought it cuz it's hampering or finances? Why did this one officer who collected evidence not write a report until 2 years after the incident??? Incompetence? Allowed laziness for many many years so this is how things are done? I have a sibling in law enforcement (not in Mass) and there is definitely the back up the brotherhood mindset that many buy into. The more ppl involved in a coverup or corruption the harder it is to believe. But if there are a few higher ups who don't enforce the rules or training like writing a report ASAP or using sterile containers to collect evidence, or make things disappear then it may be far fewer ppl knowingly involved then we think. And, often times it is so simple as "hey, do me a favor, hold off on sending that evidence in for a day" or "I was here for 40 mins, not 20, right? I know your boys and weddings are expensive, let me know if I can put in a good word or help out!" Nothing illegal necessarily, but not the truth or not best practices which is for a reason
I have multiple officers, a judge and a head of dispatch in Texas in my family and we’ve all been watching it together. They have all said that everything these officers did not do is basic 101 in preserving a crime scene, and for any seasoned officer to say otherwise is an insult to the job. They’ve also said that even if they don’t normally investigate homicides, for them to have nothing in order to do so somewhere in the precinct is not really believable.
@@Lauren-lawless Exactly!! For them to say they don’t deal with homicides and that’s why they didn’t know how to preserve evidence etc the collection & preservation of evidence and the chain of custody principles is the same for EVERY crime. Are they saying they don’t deal with burglary where an offender may have cut themselves on the way in or out and dropped blood somewhere? They would need to collect and preserve this in EXACTLY the same way as they would a homicide so like your family said it’s a total cop out to claim what they are claiming.
@@Anna-ww4pvWhat do you mean by POV? Do you mean opinions? Because, if so, protocol isn’t a matter of opinion. It’s fact. First responders have to learn a lot of protocol whether it be police, fire, medics, or EMTs. Source: I’m a former EMT/paramedic dispatcher.
Replay Crew here: Honest to Dog, I’m a civilian and I have more crime scene common sense that’s on display here. It’s so infuriating, Officer O’Keefe deserved more than the Keystone Cops.
But that is the whole point. The cops are protecting the Albert family with their thin blue line.
Like they didn’t hear a screaming woman outside their door!?!? And on top of it- fellow officers DIDNT want to come out and see what’s going on!?!? Or even HELP!?!?
BECAUSE they are absolutely involved. It’s a scary situation that they weren’t investigated 🤦♀️
Passed out from a big night partying
This I don’t know anyone that would stay in their house. Let lone a police officer when their colleagues are on their yard with a fellow fallen officer. Non of them are acting like police officers act when they hear another officer is down. They aren’t looking for retribution. They don’t even have heart in the case.
This police work is SO wild to me. I live in a small city of 40,000 and I’m someone with a locally connected family. My father is a former prosecutor, my cousin’s husband has been mayor for over a decade, my great grandpa was a well known cop and my family is in general well known and respected. And I guaran-goddamn-tee you, if a dead cop was found on my front lawn, they would be searching the shit out of my house. Especially if said cop was supposed to have been attending a party inside hours before and was missing articles of clothing. Wtf even is this?
A police cover up and years of corruption that is trying to still be hidden. But one of my questions relates to the google search made of "how long to die in cold" from one of the parties that was around that night. What would insight someone to search that if they had no idea there was a human dying out on the front lawn of the Deputy Chief?
Years of corruption… makes me sick
That investigator using a leaf blower - great way to wipe out footprints in the snow.
Comical
@@laug622It's honestly really sad how easily they hid their intentional malice behind a thin veneer of feigned incompetence.
It really bothers me how many people want to excuse framing an innocent woman as all just a little oopsie. Like they just didn't know any better.
"Officer Leaf blower" as Emily named him... I absolutely howled with laughter at that!! 🤣
Wait!! The best part was the lieutenant used it!! what the frack? 😂
Doesn't even look like the leaf blower was very effective on wet sticky snow like that.
This is so sad. And angers me😡🤯🤬 If I had a dead body or hurt body on my lawn YOU BET those cops would be ALL UP in my home. Period. Disgusting.
😢Meanwhile THESE home owners were out and up all night drinking..but magically don't see all of the cops and ambulances outside their house...when one of the homeowners is a frickin cop?! I am not buying it that when they knocked on the door...they just then realize scene going on in their front yard...and that no other neighbors were peeking thru the curtains!!
@@mamalu836right? Once there was a fire in a building adjacent to one i used to live in. The flashing lights from the fire truck and the noise from it’s engine running was enough to wake me out of a sound sleep with the tv on. I in no way believe there were multiple emergency vehicles, personnel and a woman screaming outside and they didnt notice anything. That defies logic. The house is a bit back from the street but its not in freaking Narnia
If Karen Read had performed CPR, and had blood on her, as described… her milling around the scene and going anywhere near her vehicle could also account for blood transfer.
That's a such a good point!
No her vehicle was back at John’s house… the vehicle at the scene was somebody else’s
@@bestboy1986 Remember when she left her home, she was in her vehicle and hit his parked car. Even if she did ride with a friend, having blood on her when she returned to her car, I'm sure she looked at the back to see if there was any damage. One touch could transfer blood particles.

Such an EXCELLENT point! Law nerds are so smart!
Listening to these cops testify without previously knowing a thing about the case, ALL of my alarm bells are sounding. They don't come across well, to put it charitably.
If you knew more you'd be outraged
Which is why this case is so huge right now
We get heavy snow here in Indiana, and we can walk in the snow, then minutes later our footprints are completely covered, so I’m not surprised there were no footprints if it was snowing as hard as they claim.
10:22 it looks like a good bit of snow
I agree. Also, there were no clear photos of the surrounding area, no proof the snow between the house & the 'accident' site was undisturbed. Heavy snow + strong winds could easily cover prints in a 4 hour span
Even if there were prints they would be hard to spot in blowing snow.
I also saw no evidence that it was down to bare grass under O’Keefe… as the prosecution claims as to how they know it happened at 12:30-12:45ish when Karen dropped him off… nor have they asked any of the initial first responders who were there when O’Keefe was moved to “prove” that there was no snow underneath his body. In fact everyone said he was found on the snow… And the pictures save videos haven’t shown anywhere there was bare grass in the area he was found or anywhere else
With the wind and the snow still coming down, any footprints could easily be gone in under an hour. Any juror from the northern half of the country would know that footprints don't stay visible long on heavy snow.
I also have MS (but am a decade younger than Karen) and this is the first trial that I feel like I can keep up with. The schedule could totally be an accommodation for her MS.
Fellow chronic progressive illness girlie, and I feel the same way!
My thoughts are with you girls, I know MS can be devastating. I so hope Karen gets through this.
Fellow chronic illness girlie- I like seeing it from the glass half full way, but k very much doubt that’s an accommodation for her given the pre trial stuff I saw from the judge. I could be wrong though!
I’m just amazed at how still and comfortable she is for that length of time
@@caitlinalb I don't feel like this just would be willing to make KR's life easier in any way. I don't completely know why, but this judge runs me the wrong way.

Every time I watch dash cam it becomes less believable that the Alberts didn’t know what was happening on their front lawn. No one came out? They heard Karen screaming, no one came out?
IMO, they were too busy cleaning the crime scene and getting their stories straight.
Passed out from drinking heavy
Maybe drugs too
It's curious that they have spent a lot of time telling us about what was going on after he was dead but I haven't heard anything that tells me she did anything to cause it.
Except a few people being told by McLaughlin that kr said she hit him.
She sounds like a person that was distraught that she was doing CPR on her life partner and worried about the kids. Everything the DA is saying just makes me feel worse for her and I don’t understand why they brought charges.
@@SavvyGirl751same. And I have questions about the repercussions about a psych exam -involuntary if they won't go willingly and forced blood or urine tests!? Like how is that ok and then does that go on your record, as it is, and what restrictions might you have after and if so how many times has that been used as a weapon? Anyway, perhaps the evidence is there but prosecution is doing a terrible job and defense clears many things up which makes us all the out the prosecutor and pretty up when it's defense's turn cuz it'll be spicy and at least we get answers! And can hear the attorney's when they ask questions. I really feel like we should submit surveys on how we are understanding the trial for prosecution to improve
@SavvyGirl751 bc they didn't think she'd fight back and would cop a manslaughter plea. Because she didn't do that because she knows she didn't do it ( so do they, but are hell bent on protecting Brian Albert who must have some serious dirt on some people high up the chain due to the nature of the police work he did for the BPD. Somebody/s owed him big time, and he called in a favor), they upped the charges to intentional 2nd degree murder. Still no plea bc she is innocent and is the only one who has fought for justice for John from day one. And here we are. A travesty all around.

I love jury questions
@@mariee.5912me to! I feel that if this jury was allowed questions that’s all that would they would be doing with all the fuckery we’ve heard just in these first 5 days 😳😳😳
The trial would never end if the jury asked questions. For every 1 question asked it leaves you with another 5.
Real life trials are so much more bizarre than anything TV could come up with, in the end the real truth will never be known.
I work in the medical health field in Massachusetts and what I know about Section 12 is scary. You get a cop that wants to be in control and suddenly you have lost control of your life
The defense opening statement was so effective. Even after a few days I'm still waiting for their cross with every witness to see how they substantiate their statements.
Just with what we’ve heard thus far into this trial. It should make all of us scared with police investigations because this is literally off the charts
EDB, how can this trial even continue with that fiasco of “evidence collection”?! Could there be a motion to dismiss based upon that joke of collection?😮
I doubt it because that blood is not the only deciding factor of charging her. If it was the main reason maybe.
My mom has MS and quite often loses her train of thought in the middle of a sentence under totally normal circumstances. She'll say "what were we talking about" mid conversation. Brain fog is a very legit symptom. Stress also makes it worse - and even for people without MS, stressful situations ca make you frantic, incoherent, confused, etc. Given everything we know so far, I don't really see what's so pivotal to the prosecution about Karen displaying such behavior
Exactly such an excellent point
@@Christina-oz9nh So far, the most it's gone toward is it being an accident. Franticly asking "did I hit him / is he dead" and being hysterical doesn't give me murdery vibes at ALL.

Coming in to this case like a juror, so far I definitely feel like the case and evidence was mishandled and don't think I could say without a reasonable doubt about what happened that night. I think I could say without a reasonable doubt that it snowed that night though.
The Albert family is at the center of this entire case!
If I ended up with a dead cop on my front yard in Knoxville I would be swarmed by police they'd be all up in my business!!!
It was called in as a “man unconscious in the snow” not a “police officer” which I think would have produced a swarm of cops, experienced cops that would have questions including Boston.
Yeah, no joke!!
Apparently, only if you're not an officer
Any other human
You would be immediately detained and no would at least be questioned separately with recording ps and a follow up report signed.
I've been watching since Day 1. Am I the only one that hasn't heard/seen actual evidence presented that's bad for the defense? I feel like everything's been getting the same answer that does nothing. Maybe I'm just in the minority here.
Exactly. I'm on the same page. I've been watching the whole thing. All I've learned is it was snowing, witnesses all heard different things, and the police are apparently incompetent at evidence collection.
I guess if you believe the police and emt that she “confessed” I hit him, I hit him but they didn’t arrest her or write it in the initial reports.
They are questioning police etc to shed light on a supposed cover up
@valiakloeppel7252 kind of. This is the prosecution's case right now. These are their witnesses. The defense gets to cross examine all of them but will put on their actual evidence, their case, after prosecution rests
At best they have a confession but the defense has really mudied the water on that. Presumably, the prosecution thinks this confession along with the motive they have yet to introduce is enough to prove murder.
I think the Prosecutors questions are cleaner in voir dire because in the trial he is trying to baffle the jury not dazzle them with brilliance. He doesn’t really believe in his case
Jen McCabe is the one who needs to be investigated. A good detective presses her, she'll sing like a canary.
Idk if she'd sing, but she definitely needs to be investigated.
Having seen her testimony now, I think she is the least likely one to sing 😂
I'm also angry at how many LEOs were drinking and driving that night.
It’s shocking how many cops and firefighters drink and drive!!😡

I can't possibly see how his arm got sliced up like that from a broken glass. IF he was holding one in his hand and got hit by a car wouldn't it be knocked out of his hand? I can't see how the perpendicular lines occurred, etc. And we don't have his clothes to see their condition. I couldn't convict a person with all these unanswered questions. No video, conflicting statements, shady connections, poorly handled evidence.

I have to admit that this Judge is growing on me. I am so tired of cases in which shoddy police work is uncovered. Solo cups and grocery store paper bags. A cop who has a history of being light on people involved with the case. This stuff is nuts.
edit: Why didn't Lank excuse himself from a case involving his friends? It's a mystery for sure!
I've watched probably 400 trials, she's by far the most biased, awful judge I've ever seen. So, not sure what at all your talking about
I do agree that it's a very very good thing this is all coming out. But it has nothing to do with her, she can't legally keep it out
@@Lc0522exactly, my relative is a judge and we’ve been watching together and she gets more and more angry over this judge every day of trial.
Judge seems unprofessional at times.
Most of the time!
Replay crew today.....
Lally's questioning is a present for the insomniac. Officer O'Keefe deserves better than that. ( But then again, we said the same about Creighton in the beginning). Love from England xxx
Unfortunately it doesn't work for sleep... I'm in Aus and tried listening to the morning session live last night to put me to sleep, but it made me so frustrated that I had no chance of sleeping 🤣
@@marianne8352 agreed I have yelled at the proceedings and got increasingly agitated and simultaneously upset for the victim and his family given the lack of investigation that seems to have happened in getting to the bottom of what happened to John O’Keefe regardless of who is to blame for it.
@@marianne8352that’s where I’m at 😂😂 it’s 12:37 am here in the us and I’ll be up all damn night now.
8:31 lol the snow reminds me of that windows 3.1 screensaver with the stars in warp speed.
Which is why when it snows, it is not recommended to run emergency lights in the snow
Mr. Of Course Not 🤣🤣 I've taken to calling him Lt. Solo Cup. Thanks for being so informative and hilarious, EDB!
This was so interesting to watch and get the backround comments from Emily so we can understand it better.
So it's sounds like the Canton PD is fall down, and have been for some time. So maybe this is why Officer O'keefe was not really welcome to the exclusive Boston "boys".
Just catching up here but I have thoughts & questions: why aren't they going thru the snow around the body with a fine toothed comb? Seems like everone and their brother trampled all 9ver the scene. Granted the snow fall was intense but couldn't they have covered the scene with a tarp?
I agree having a drink glass from the bar is very unusual. How do they get to section 12 her based on her father's call? Couldn't they have asked the homeowners to allow some people to be interviewed inside the house instead of making everyone freeze their asses off? How can the house owners still be asleep with all the commotion & lights in their own front yard (even without sirens)?
There is a tent that LE uses, no bottom and a heat lamp to remove/melt snow to preserve site.
Replay Crew! This, by far, was the best review of this trail and just the best review in a long time! You had me laughing so hard this am with yr reactions! ❤❤❤
Gallagher under cross agreed with defence attorney that any footsteps from the house would have been covered by snow over time.
So the prosecution says he didn’t go into the house…so where did the broken cocktail glass come from? I can’t believe they didn’t search that house, it makes me so mad! 😡
Apparently from the Waterfall Bar from earlier in the night. Apparently he took it from the bar.
The thing is that the police didn’t know JO apparently left the bar with the glass until a few days later when they viewed the video tapes.
Just finished on 2x speed, ready for today's trial!
I wish I knew how to fast forward this!💜
Happy Birthday🎉!! Have the BEST Birthday week EVER💫

I love you Ms Emily how you think and what you say!So smart !!!!
He went to his house for a leaf blower but they couldn’t go and get swabs for blood samples?!?!? WTF
Or plastic bags!

International Replay Crew for the foreseeable: Training as a Police Communicator. Triaging calls for non-emergency situations that still require police attention/attendance.
Appreciate the trial coverage 💜🇳🇿
Is the prosecution trying to find their theory while questioning witnesses?
Sounds like it!
Albert hit and run killed exchange student 23 year old Peter Berger who was from Hungary.
This case is sooooo much better than any crime TV series
And to think a woman life is on the line and this kind of police investigation happens all the time not just in Canton
Happy Birthday 🎊🎈
Argh, I am SO invested in this case, but I'm also super-invested in Delphi! Things are going to get painful for me real fast real soon!!! 😓
Same! I’m watching this one and Chad Daybell’s trial.
@@Tammy_26Irwin Ooo, I thought about that one, but I was only in and out of Lori’s case, and I figured 3 would definitely be too much!
1:35:19 towards the beginning of his testimony officer Goode said it was so loud from the wind blowing that you had to yell at the person right next to you to hear what they were saying. I can’t remember if McLaughlin said that Read said or yelled “i hit him”, but based on what Goode said about the noise of the storm it would be possible for one person to hear something different that someone a couple feet away or pointed in a different direction from the person speaking couldn’t hear
Replay crew here, hello fellow lawnerds. Maybe its because English is my second language, or because im just over some bad flu and i still have some brain fog, but all i know so far: 1. Snow. 2. Not 2 people can state anything similar. 3. It feels like a fever dream with the solo cups, leaf blower, etc..
KR is so panicked that she’s not bothered by the amount of snow on her head.
The closed caption writer here is drunk y’all
I don’t think it’s a writer, it’s an ai that registers the sound…it’s their accents the ai can’t pick up because Boston, Mass
