Thank you for all these episodes. Breaking Down Bergman is (and will continue to be) the first thing I watch right after watching a Bergman film.

Great Job!!! Congrats! I just finished Saraband last night, which was the last Bergman film I had not seen. What I find even more impressive about your project is that you watched all the films you did before the Criterion Collection became available in 2018. With the Criterion Collection, I was able to watch almost every Bergman film I hadn't seen before. And every film that was missing from the Collection (except Face to Face which I got at the local library) was available for free on CZcams. I'm sure you had to get creative or spend a little cash to get some of these movies pre-Criterion Collection. With watching this video today, I've finished watching all of your videos, which was an absolute pleasure. Thank you.

I've been reading your comments as you've made your way through the movies, so I'm delighted you crossed the finish line! Hopefully you had a chance to duck into some of the bonus videos. Thanks for sticking with us! - David

@Breaking Down Bergman In between watching Bergman films, I would watch the bonus videos. Your visit to the archives and your interview with Liv were particularly wonderful to watch.

Your completion of this CZcams series comes right around the same time I've completed something much more modest, my first trip through the Criterion set. So I've been able to listen to your takes while I was working through that.
Even when I felt that one or both of you liked a film too little or too much, I always enjoyed your commentary. I think it's wonderful that Bergman's films continue to reach new viewers. Now he has fans who were not even alive when Fanny and Alexander was made. Now that I've seen more of the movies than I had ever seen before, I have even greater respect for him. By my reckoning, there are seven that anyone with a serious interest in film should see, another 13 that are as good as movies usually get (they would be someone else's masterpieces), and still others that are very good.
Best wishes on your next project, whatever it may be.

I loved this series so much! Thanks for your dedication - it was a huge project, and I’m really impressed that you ended up getting through his whole filmography. What you’ve created here will be an indispensable resource for Bergman fans (old and new) in the years to come. :)

Hey guys, congratulations for the project. Have to say I watched all your episodes and almost all Bergman movies too. Being a die hard Bergman's fan, I'd like to say I can't find anything similar: As massive and consistent for analysis like his movies, but guess you could do a shorter series on Kubrick. Think he shares with Bergman the picture quality and the drive towards perfectionism, maybe without the theatrical ingredient of Bergman but with various genres and approaches to movie making.

I've been watching Bergman like crazy for a few months. I wish I had found this series earlier. You might consider Shakespeare next.

You guys did an excellent job with this series. If you decide to do another, consider Nicolas Roeg. Thanks for your insights and your thoughtful approach.

    • @breakingdownfilms

They're largely the filmed stage plays. Whichever titles are missing from the full series are the ones we didn't view. - David
