He said that because he found out laboon was waiting for them from last 50 years like promised, so he was glad he could complete the promise his captain made and meet his friend. So it was like all his suffering was not for nothing.

And just the fact that he has a new family to enjoy his second chance with rather than alone on that damn ship. The straw hats aren’t a crew, they’re a family. Brook found the perfect people.

Oda commissioned Kouhei Tanaka to write this song specifically for One Piece. According to OP legend, it's a folklore song loved by pirates. So I won't be shocked if this song is somehow connected to the Void Century or whatever. HAHAH if that's the case, it'll be mindblowing!

When Brook sang Bink's sake at the beginning was scary and lonesome, when he got with the crew he cheered it up, and when he plays it in his violin is so soothing and relaxing. I wish there was an extended version of Brook's Bink's sake in violin.

It always blows my mind how Brook was a pirate before the golden age of piracy and even before Roger became the pirate king. And he spent 50 years alone in a ship with his dead comrades. Can't even blame the man for being a little weird cuz most would've gone mad.

It's one of the hardest moments of one piece for me tbh, I lost my friend in the car crash 2y ago, damn he loved this anime, we watched it together a lot, and when I hear Brook saying "Solo.." I'm breaking down in tears. I just wish everyone could have their soul rebirth and be glad to be alive. Powerful stuff, Oda sensei, powerful stuff

A few years back there was a Submarine that had lost power and the crew was essentially SOL, so they decided to record their last moments in song similar to how Brook's back story had gone. Who knows perhaps some of the crew had seen One Piece and was a fan.
System must prioritize humans health as #1. Because of submarine wasn't good people died. Maybe if they were more careful....

Oda had the anime producer compose a full rendition of Bink's Sake *before* the song ever appeared in the manga. Just a little tidbit for how important it really is.
Binks Sake is so fucking nostalgic to the Series now. Every once in a blue moon they will play it, and it just gives you the feels everytime.
Btw zoro didn't defeat ryuma, he defeated brook in ryumas body, dude was so op back in his day that even his dead body gave brook's shadow a big power boost

Damn, I've watch brook's story so many time but no single chance I kept the tears from flowing. His story is the most heart breaking among all sad back stories. Numerous floors above story of kyros' & Robin's.
I've seen so many people place Brooks backstory down on the list for the saddest among the strawhats simply because he was already an adult when it all happened...
Idk but for me having all that joy, Family and Friends and then have it ripped away from you is so much worse and also people underestimate how hard loneliness can be especially over such a long period
Brooks backstory is the only one where someone asked them how come they didn't just kill themselves rather than continue to endure it. To me that speaks volumes of how tragic it is.

I love that Oda left the mystery of the giant creatures in the background of Thriller Bark at the end. It really added to the world building that this mysterious part of the ocean that has ships dissappear in it, was not completely solved simply by the strawhats showing up and beating Moria.
So it hasn't been revealed in the manga either? It's still a mystery?

The Yomi Yomi no Mi, or Revive Revive Fruit, allows the user to come back to life after dying once (excluding if they drown) and basically gives them a second life. But in case their bodies have been damaged or decomposed, the Fruit allows the user to still function like a living being so it compensates for missing organs or other body parts.

I saw the Bink's Sake scene around 5 years ago and teared up despite not knowing the context, and that was what got me into One Piece.
Finding out that Brook was a member of the Strawhats made me lose my shit.
If you listen to a song called “Binks Brew” (“A Sea Shanty From One Piece”) which is an English version of “Binks Sake”, you can see that Brook’s crewmates said that if they die first they would see Brook in the afterlife but Brook ate the Yomi Yomi No Mi Fruit which made him an eternal skeleton so he didn’t get to see his crewmates like they promised but at least he’s happy with the Straw Hat’s! 😭

So far watching One Piece, I have only actually cried 3 times. The first was when Chopper saw the cherry blossoms before leaving home. The second was the sinking of the Merry. The third time was watching Brooks backstory. I cried hardest when watching what happened to Brook, because his story is a masterful tragedy, yet he came through and is still a goofy, lovable guy. It could have been so easy to make him angsty and bitter, but his joy and kindness speaks to me more than any other Straw Hat.
the fact that Brook did not lose his sanity afer all those years roaming around a dark, empty sea with no company (other than his DEAD COMRADES) is beyond me. HOW??
Man, wouldn't it be crazy if Oda hid all sorts of hints in the lyrics of Bink's Sake that wouldn't make sense for over a decade. Crazy.

Brook slowly going insane on the ship to this day is one of the most horrifying things in anime. Its Berserk levels of f*cked up.
My favorite line from Brook in these episodes, is at 27:07
"I take pride in being a pirate! If you are facing the wall, I want to greet you from the front, just like I promised!"
Before, when he's mentioned wanting to get back, it's been subtly inferred that he's wanting to get back as quickly as possible, and thus going "backwards" along the Grand Line. Which is considered ridiculously cowardly. This is also why he couldn't beat Ryuma to get his shadow back. He wasn't a good enough swordsman, sure, but he never *got better,* despite having years prior to meeting the Straw Hats to train.
But now, he's ready to move forward, become better, and face Laboon head on with a smile, rather than skulk up from behind.
It's some wonderfully powerful (if a bit overly subtle) character building, which is great since we pretty much get none after this until post timeskip, where we get flashes of his character during his Sabaody concert, a few new powers on Fishman Island, and that's basically it up through Dressrosa.
Brook alone in the ship amusing himself while reminiscing is just so heartbreaking

Brook could NEVER beat Ryuma because firstly Ruma when he was alive was already stronger than Brook and on top of that Dr. Hogback was choosing super strong bodies for Moria to use that were stronger than the shadows owner and on top of that he made modifications to the bodies to enhance their strength before giving them to Moria for the shadows. So basically the zombies of each person in most cases were just upgraded versions of that person (for Sanji this clearly wasn't the case since his zombie was put in a weak ass penguin dog because they didn't recognise him and even the dogguin zombie of Sanji was complaining that his body is too weak for him)

It’s truly crazy how Brook was able to last out at sea by himself for 50 years straight on the boat where his best of friends died on. I wouldn’t be able to do it.
I must agree that Brook’s backstory was definitely a tragic but at the same time I’m happy that he got to join the straw hat crew so that way he wouldn’t be alone anymore. Luffy did say that in the beginning that they could really need a musician and Brook fits in the crew perfectly.
i though i cried by heart out on Merry's farewell, but brook's back story hits harder, its so dark and depressing.

If you think about the "Last Performance" is even more sad, when you realize that tey speed up their deaths by the poison because they are moving around singing, dancing and playing just to send this gift to Laboon. Making the poison circulate more in their bodys killing them faster.

To put into context just how long Brook was on that ship and because I know you've watch Naruto; if Brook was on that ship for another 10 years, he would be as old as Madara is in shippuden. With only the corpses of his loved ones for company in the darkness for 50 long years, there's not many pieces of fiction that are as dark and grimm as that.
