Let's see if the new Zack Snyder film is any good. Critics say it's not...here is what I have to say.

Some people are just silly. They complain and exaggerate their dislike about trivial things just because...trolling. The internet gives them a platform and they're contributing discourse, not discussion. And their excuse will be "It's just a movie bro". Stfu. Anyway...this assessment of Rebel Moon sounds like it's coming from a fair and unbiased reviewer that enjoys the movie watching experience. I appreciate that.
I was able to see it on Sunday at the Egyptian theater in LA. You were spot on with your review. My girl and I talked about it afterwards and all the points that you hit, we were discussing and criticizing as well. Hopefully it won’t affect people who know nothing of Rebel Moon or ZS. Also, we got posters as well, but ours were vaguely reminiscent of the Heavy Metal magazines.

Actually we something in common, I too am a huge Star Wars fan and love DC too.
I'll be watching Rebel Moon at 2:00pm this Friday on Netflix, also I'm not aware of any cinemas showing this on a limited run here.
The Force is strong with this one...maybe.

Unprofessional how? They dont like it, big whoop don’t get your panties in a bunch.
Some regular CZcamsrs also dislike it and bring up points that critics also agree. Even the softer ones echoed the same problem; 2 dimensional characters and story. Some even said once a character is introduced they dissapear into background.
I read some of the comments in your feed, what people don't understand is that Zack does not rush his universes, he takes his time to give you an awesome crescendo. Also, this is the PG-13 version of it, the R rated version would be better, AND in the 2nd film the characters will be more developed.... Remember MoS, BVS & ZSJL??? ... Thanks for the unbiased review Aaron, especially on a Zack Snyder film. More professional than those so called "critics". Can't wait to see it tomorrow. But like you I'm also a bit annoyed that the extended cut is not available at the start. At least it is a relatively short wait until Part 2. Will both Part 1 + 2 have extended versions ? Is it known when will they be released ?
I really enjoyed this, glad to have seen it on the big screen and I hope others get to view it that way as well. I really want to see the R-rated cut.

This is Zack Snyder man! His full extension for an 3hr, or more movie. Will be worth it. The slow motion, the score, the character build ups, the world exploration, the action sequences, the inspiring human moments jammed pact in a sci-fi motion picture. I saw it at The Egyptian in LA on Sunday. Went to the 12 pm showing.👍😏 Was absolutely worth it. And man oh man did it leave me wanting more. It's good! Not with out its flaws but it's worth the watch and it has the rewatch value. Enjoyed it a lot

@@boboboy8189 Theres nothing wrong with doing theater cuts and having director cuts. Least not in my opinion. If I'm not mistaken Zack wanted to resch all audience both young and adult. He made this version so all could enjoy. And sometime next year before the release of Part 2, The R Rated Cut will be released on Netflix for the more adult crowd. It makes perfect sense to me. And it made perfect sense to Netflix as well. 👍😁

Totally agree with your review. The team building bit felt like there was stuff missing, perhaps some of the character flashbacks from the other trailers. But it in no way rendered it 'incoherent' as suggested by some critics. I gave it 4/5 on RT. Looking forward to seeing it again on my TV.
yeah it's not like the hack job that was done to Ayer's Suicide Squad and Snyder's own BvS and Justice League. it just feels trimmed down.
Everyone knows Snyder's work is ALWAYS better when it's given more time to breathe. The extended cut of RM will be insane. Apparently Zack said that the extended cut feels like a completely different movie and knowing his previous work I tend to believe him. I liked the movie a lot and I think it's an easy hit for Netflix.
As for the stupid critics....well they're stupid so nothing really to say. 😂
Exactly, he always takes his time to build a Univers, people, normally kids, rush too much, he brews it to give the fans an explosive crescendo to wrap it up, also, this is only part one.

writing can prioritize either plot or character as it's drive although, not necessarilly while sacrificing one or the other to any excessive story detriment...good writers can balance a rotation of the degree of each at key event points.
although there are limits to that above crossroads solution, such as lore's breadth, and this per it's films duration.
this complete story is just too big so, since necessitating it's divison into seperate parts, it cannot give us everything required in merely each individual installment...this is standard mainly in early stage(s), particularly their 1st.
non spoiling, there are a couple of quick exposes zack flash's giving reasoning to the why they are able to find the key rebel players so quickly-easily but, it naturally fly's over most all of our heads my friend. most all seeming incongruencies are addressed...an at least 2nd viewing is essential for answering many of these questions aaron.
"dune" and more recently, and most commendably, "the creator" on a similar to "RM" budget were crafted as theatrical films in which masters ville(neu(ve and edwards delivered us magnificent cgi/vfx...with especially "dune" a watershed for scale and scope yet, the director himself has lamented similar aspects found in his pt.1, mainly insufficient character development/relationships/relatability.
here, as the top streamer, they cannot fully dive into cinematic productions without sabotaging their utmost successful business model.
below, a few eplainations.
they cannot release a 3(+?)hr cut theatrically, moreso with an R rating, only to then shortchange their subscribers with this 2&1/4hr pg13 as their streaming debute. furthers(t)ill, not on a relatively over slim $83mil bdgt and, cardinally, not for a very Ltd. cinematic run.
nor can they, conversely, now stream debute with the full length R version...in both cases they'd defeat their perrogative of tailoring content across the broadest segments of the audience spectrum, as do major film studios but in opposite mode.
in both cases, doing so would lose interest of much casual and, legally at least, younger vewerships.
this film is not composed under the same circumstances as was "ZSJL".
the casuals would here have zero/very-little motivation for investing in "child of fire"' in a way too long full cut, this thereby risky as aslo adversly affectiing a limiting of the sequels' viewers appeal.
finally, this intense preplanning mentioned is applicably crucial to (especially) this film, since conceived as a hopeful franchise ignition....the original "SW" film of '77 was "only" 2hrs long.
(add:..true, lucas was not positively expecting sequels would be wanted but he did alread have extensive further story/plot points preplanned)
these Ltd. releases serve mostly as extensions of their ad-promo campaigns...as so was with "army of the dead".
it is an extremely daunting task morphing these to act double duty for both small and big screen parameters.
concessions must be made in certain areas so, for the meantime let us patiently permit the unfounded via ignorance critiques to fly abound...let's all be gents, so as we may celebrate seeing the many converts joi(ni)ng us, the "snyder bros", when all of the facts become crystal clear to the unbelievers.

I really am excited about the balisarius character this lore is pretty cool with that rebel moon universe
you gotta love how the most scathing critics of this movie will go on about it being "unoriginal" and feeling smart for pointing out "oh, this is a Star Wars riff, oh, that one visual was taken from The Matrix, the plot is like Seven Samurai" and so on and so forth. truth is, Snyder had the cojones to make his very own space opera, pretty much wearing his inspirations on his sleeve. was it a home run? not really. but it's a valiant attempt.
Samurai 7? That's the anime version of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.
What's become obvious is that critics/viewers are so use to binge watching series that they have lost the ability to watch a 2hr movie, especially one with a part 2 that gives you more time to sit with the characters and story. A 2 hr movie now can't have none than 2-3 characters otherwise critics and viewers don't connect
In this film we definitely needed more background on a few of the characters that won’t even make it to part 2.

I enjoyed the movie ands I'm very curious to see part 2 along with the directors cut. I was watching it compared to what Disney has done with star wars and i feel it made me enjoy this movie more. I really don't understand the hatred for this movie
6/10 - lots of telling instead of showing; very underdeveloped characters aside of Noble and Kora (and even those two have character development issues)
I look forward to the extended edition to see if those mistakes are fixed
The universe was interesting though some basic details were a little confusing (the politics behind why the royal family was assassinated)
Music was forgettable - seriously, when was the last time you could hum a theme from any recent film like we used with the old school movies of 30+ years ago?

But I’m just tired of all this drama and I wish they just released the king version simultaneously. I miss being part of a fandom but none of my friends / fam like his work. My bro was looking forward to it but he’s not a big Snyder guy and I think a lot of people will not have the desire now to watch the longer cut. I saw Rebel Moon yesterday, it's in Selected Cinemas here in London 🎡
Here are my thoughts on the Film.
Positives -
- 🔥 Sofia Boutellas Performance was good and she did very well to lead the film. Her Screen Presence was Strong, on top of that she has a Beautiful Super Fit Body and Face.
🛡️ Atticus Noble - I feel he did what he needed to do, be an absolutely brutal antagonist. So he nailed that role.
Princess Issa - this Character is Very Interesting, so much potential here.
♥️The Lost Love of Motherworld - I feel that this is an Excellent idea, can't wait to see it expanded upon.
🐣Princess Issa being the Hope - Again, this is a Fantastic idea, can Princess Issa bring back that Lost Compassion of Motherworld? And Steer Motherworld into a New Future, a New Era? Excellent Idea 👌
🎨 Visuals - tons of the Visuals are Eye Gazing, that opening Shot with Saturn in the Background was Gorgeous 🪐. I loved the Huge Galactic Landscapes and that shot of the elevator scene(Lightsaber womans Planet), when they are riding the elevator downwards with the backdrop of the city was Breathtaking. Stunning Shot. 😮
⏭️The Slow Motion - that First Slow Motion Scene when the Young Girl is captured by those men, that slow motion scene was so good, Sofia Boutellas movements and combat manoeuvres were so good in that Segment, with her hair swinging as she attacked each guy. Love that scene.
🎵 The Score - Some of the Score was Really Good.
Negatives -
👪All those other characters, Charlie Hunnam, farmer guy, Djimon Hounsou, Nemesis, Tarak(hes got potential to be honest), robot guy. All of those characters were Underdeveloped as Hell, they were basically Cardboard Cutouts. They're a team Right? Yet they had barely any meaningful dialogue between any of them. Underwritten as hell.
Bloodaxe and Bloodaxes' Sister looked and sounded like promising characters, I really like their dialogue and motivation and then they are completely wasted 🤦🏻
The Script 🖊️ - who's checking these Scripts? Everything is too damn rushed and there's to much going on. They needed to Build certain things properly, not just rush through everything.
The Worldbuilding 🌆- Where's the World-building? They were just doing too damn much and jumping from planet to Planet. Pair it down, give us 2 or 3 Worlds, build the overall world properly, go to the Lightsaber Womans Planet, give us their view and stance on the Imperium Situation, do they mind imperiums oppressive rule? Or are they mounting up an attack too? Just like Bloodaxe? What about the other Kings in the Galaxy? What's their stance on Imperium?
Anyway, I love the Direction and Potential that Rebel Moon 2 has. And also the possible Sequels to Rebel Moon 1 & 2. The Story of the Royal Family of Motherworld and the Fall(lost compassion) of Motherworld are excellent ideas. I definitely wanna see more of this Galaxy.
Zack Snyder needs to really get some Excellent writers in, really sit down and knuckle down and pan things out and the direction they are taking these worlds in.
I would say it's a 6 outta 10 for me. Which is not Terrible but also not Excellent (though it could be). The Elements are all there.

Similar to what you said, I tried to go into the movie with no expectation.
My complaint is it was too short, way too short of a movie.
It could've been MUCH BETTER, and each of the main characters, it would've been nice to have at least a two or three minute back story flash back.
The action was GREAT, the special effects and visuals were GREAT, though the camp fire scene really looked fake, like it was on a stage and you could really tell the back ground was fake.
All the different alien species looked interesting.
I really liked the robot, Jimmy.
My favorite characters were Sofia Boutella's Kora and Tarak.
It didn't make much sense to me though that Tarak was shirtless throughout the whole movie because space and other planets have different environments and temperatures.
I really did NOT like the gay alien scene in the bar / pub / saloon. They REALLY should NOT have had any gay garbage in the movie. That was a MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT and EXTREMELY DISGUSTING.
They could have done WITHOUT the abuse of the young woman at the hands of the imperium soldiers. That's inappropriate for a pg 13 rating and for a movie that's supposed to be somewhat like Star Wars.
It was sad that Charlie Hunnam's character betrayed the rebels toward the end, and they also killed off the main blood axe character, Ray Fisher.
That was a major let downer and disappointment for me.
Over all, for this version of Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Part 1 A Child of Fire, I give it a 3 out of 5 stars. I felt disappointed and let down by Zack in this movie.
I'm sure that the r rated extended version will be MUCH BETTER, and CANNOT wait to see it.
I'll still see the current version multiple times until the other version releases.
The ending was insane, how that main guy died and was brought back, and somehow was sent to another dimension or realm to talk with Kora's dad that had MAJOR darth vader vibes.
The one back story flash back scene of Kora and the princess, the life giver who brought the bird back to life, I saw similarities between Star Wars the light side of the force.
So, is the life giver supposed to be like the light side of the force, and the scar giver like the dark side?!
And Kora is supposedly a scar giver. So I wonder if she joins the life givers and tries to bring her dad to be a life giver, similar to Luke Skywalker rescuing his dad from the dark side, or will Kora remain a scar giver and inevitably turn against her rebel friends, but then there'd have to be other life givers that helps the rebels defeat the scar givers and the evil imperium, if there are more life givers who are GOOD and if there are more scar givers, who may be bad?!
It'd be interesting to find out and know for sure about the life givers and scar givers.
HOPEFULLY that's explained in Zack's director's cut and / or in Rebel Moon Part 2 Scar Giver.
I REALLY enjoyed the movie for what it is. It is very Star Wars esque but they made the one pilot, Charlie Hunnam a traitor who died and killed off Ray Fisher's blood axe character.
I was so DISAPPOINTED and let down.

I can see them having at least 4 to 5, maybe 6 parts. Maybe it would be better to be a series after Rebel Moon Part 2 or Part 3 so they have plenty of time to explain things.

Rebel Moon is very similar, and a GREAT sci fi epic tale from Director Zack Snyder.
HOPEFULLY he STILL gets the opportunity to complete his DCEU Snyder Verse arc, story, and vision to 100 % COMPLETION as ORIGINALLY INTENDED.
I echo and have said before like Netflix has said, the more Zack Snyder, the BETTER.

Good review. I hate that I have to ask this but how is the identity politics in the movie? How are the male characters handled? Is it a girl power movie? I’ve heard from other reviewers that all the white male characters are bad or treated poorly.

Zack is a capable director, he knows how to handle female charaters very well. Just look at what he did with wonder woman. If it were Marvel's she would have been a girl boss i assure you

Super hyped. Star Wars fandom burned me out. Excited for something similar but different.
I saw this last night and loved it. My wife is not a fan of this kind of movie, and she loved it too. I can't wait to watch it again on Netflix and can't wait for part two. While I know there's a longer version coming, I didn't feel like the movie was lacking anything, as is -- in fact, I appreciated the brisk pace. It had more interesting characters than (and at least as much character development as) any other genre movie I've seen recently. #rebelmoon
The main problem with such films is the assumption that civilizations in other parts of the universe are developing according to the patterns of earthly history. With "empires", "dictatorships", "democracies", including the style of clothing characteristic of these societies. But military men in German-Soviet uniforms from a distant planet are even more cretinous than horned humanoid aliens. And who challenges them in this film? A girl with the weight of a lamb and the appearance of a schoolgirl, eternal teenager Sofia Boutella (ex-elite soldier, "veteran"!🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️), who will not be sold cigarettes either in Europe or in the USA. Sorry, but this all looks like banal money laundering at a freak show, not art.

What up, I actually saw this in the same theater as you. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. My only grip about this film is Kora wasn't believable, slow mo to me was over done. I mean when grains fall out of an apron it took like 5 mins to hit the ground. Not everything needs slo mo in my opinion. But I was happy to receive a poster at the end of the movie

I gave it a 6/10. The reason being only Kora gets developed as a character and there were too many flashbacks eating up time for world building when a simple sentence would do. That time could have been used for the supporting characters.
Snyder said there's directors cut Will be released after second movie. I don't understand why he keep allowed theater's cut exist
I believe the other characters will be fleshed out even more in part 2.
