Dishonored - Samuel character deepdive

- Join me as I take a look at Dunwall's favourite river boat captain, loyalist conspirator and the best boy about, Samuel (the boatman) Beechworth. No doubt, one of the Most beloved characters in the entire Dishonored universe.

Also Samuel is possibly the realest dude in these games. Bro brings nothing but goodness to the world
Fun story. On my first playthrough of the game, I got the high chaos ending and when we were on the boat to the island for the final mission, I remember Sam was being a dick to me. he was saying, "Im just like the rest of em" in regards to me killing everyone I see and I was kinda pissed about that so after telling me to gtf off his boat and that he was gonna alert the guards as he was pulling out his gun, I instantly shot him in the face with my crossbow out of pure instinct.
I paused and realised that he was right about the type of person i am and it was incredible how things played out naturally the way it did. Its easily one of my most memorable moments in gaming.
I dont regret killing sam tho, insubordination will not be tolerated
@daizenmarcurio The games ability to turn you into a monster and makes you face the reality of your choices is honestly incredible.The fact that they allow you to gun him down in that moment really caught me off guard the first time I did it since any time prior to that you always get a game over screen.
Out of curiosity, do you remember if it reflects that choice to kill Sam during the end sequence wrap up cutscene?
@@zombieclone98 For sure man, it also caught me off guard too, its definitely an incredible thing
And yes, its reflected because he doesnt show up at all in the ending where you kill him but if you hit him with a sleep dart, then he'll show up in his regular high chaos ending.

I had that same ending but I didn't care because as far as I was concerned Sam was already dead just for having met me lol
i believe the choice to fire the gun wasn't him trying to get corvo killed. instead I think samuel knew he would win as the ruthless killer he is (high choas) and as a result the bullet he fired was more for the guards and their safety, warning them corvo has arrived (they all knew he would be coming) to at least give them a chance of not dying at his hand by running away as guards in high chaos know what corvo has done and would be more fearful. i think this to be true because samuel is the type of guy to take risks even save just one more person and with with his guilt of driving a high choas corvo to missions where he killed hundreds the feeling of saving one more person will be more enhanced.

That's a good point, but I do think his intentions were to stop him (even if he knew that a couple of guards couldn't do much) because of one particular point that I didn't actually bring up in the video, in the regular high chaos version that boat ride, where Samuel says he's disappointed but doesn't fire the gun, he expresses his hope that Emily makes it out okay, but in the version when he does shoot he says nothing about the young empress, just expressing his distain towards you

I really missed his presence in the following 2 games, but the little mention he gets when you pick up the carving of his boat warms my heart

Dishonored 1 is definitely my favourite but 2 and DOTO are both good in their own right
No kill play through is cannon? I thought killing all targets and no one else was the cannon way to play
