  • Bina Tenenblat was born in Kamenets Podolsk in Ukraine in 1928. On August 27, 1941, together with other members of her family, she was taken to a munitions deport where more than 10,000 local Jews were shot. Bina, her mother, and brother witnessed this mass murder.
During the murder operation Bina managed to convince some guards that she and the members of her family were not Jews and, therefore, should be allowed to leave the site.
After the mass murder, Bina wandered around Ukrainian villages under an assumed identity. She was the only member of her family to survive the war.
