Guitar Neck Reshape Fender Japan series Soichiro Yamauchi Strat

  • We have done a neck reshape and neck refinish, neck coloring, fret change, nut change, and various settings on a Fender Japan Series Soichiro Yamauchi Strat.
First of all, is this baby good for the Japan series?
It's been a little while since Fendjapa disappeared, but I wonder what company plans and makes the artist models?
Anyway, since FJ is no longer around, is it OK to call it the Fender Japan series?
It seems to be a signature model of Soichiro Yamauchi of Fuji Fabric.
I can't tell the difference between the signature model and the artist model, but this guitar is a great quality guitar.
It's been a while since I've seen a guitar with such high quality. As expected of the Japan series....not to be underestimated! The red paint on the body is all satin and the neck has a satin finish on the grips, back of the head, etc., but only the head is glossy! It takes a lot of work.
But it's worth the trouble because the contrast between the satin lacquer and the gloss lacquer is so cool.
Although the customer didn't have a strong preference, we used the same painting method to finish it.
    Because it's cool.
The name of this original paint job has a long name: Satin Urethane Back with Gloss Headstock Face.
So, the paint job I did this time is "Satin Lacquer Back with Gloss Headstock Face". (Laughs)
To be honest, this is the first time we have done a neck reshape.
The grip on the original neck is quite thick and D-shaped? I think it is, but I made it more like a normal C shape.
To be honest, the original grip was quite uncomfortable (compared to a normal Strat), but I think I was able to almost eliminate that discomfort.
I stripped the paint from the neck grip area, so only the grip area sounded white.
Normally, I'd paint the entire area as if it were a sunburn, but this time I decided to darken the back of the head and the area around the neck end to my liking. (I've got the owner's approval!) Ahhhhhhh. It's the best.
Satin lacquer Back with Gloss Headstock Face Thank you so much.
I changed the radius of the fretboard at the same time to change the fretboard. What 12R........just barely in terms of synchro tremolo.
I was able to set the string height to a little over 1 mm on the 6th string with the full adjustment range. To be honest, I think that it can be lowered a little more. (If there is an adjustment range)
So if you want to go lower, I think you can go a little further by adding a shim to the neck set angle, so I think the potential of the guitar is still there.
The sound is a perfect restrato feel! The owner is looking for a Les Paul and one that will replace the Telecaster, so it's a nice touch.
The synchro setting is a float in the normal range.
The bridge screw setting is also a basic 180 degrees back.
I personally like the quality of the instrument, and the way it looks, so I'm hoping the owner will like it too...
    Thank you for your request.

Wonderful work Andy! However, it is generally cheaper, easier and more consistent to simply buy a replacement neck of your choice from Fender, or other dealers. You can then simply screw it in place and your done. For those that would like to attempt this at home, but don't have all of the same hand tools, you can use a random orbital sander, but it will take time and make LOTS of dust.

Che meraviglioso restauro del manico hai fatto, complimenti! Sei davvero bravo e soprattutto hai una infinita calma, pazienza e precisione nel fare i lavori di restauro. Ho già visto tanti video dei tuoi lavori. Bravo! La chitarra é identica alla mia Strato made in U.S.A. Stesso colore, stesso pick-guard, stesso manico con tastiera in palissandro. Le sole differenze sono che la mia ha la paletta più grande e la skunk stripe sul retro del manico. Ciao, saluti dall'Italia. 🙂
