  • In this video, I show you how to do a forehand sidespin serve (also known as a pendulum serve).
    This is one of my favourite serves. I like it because you can do lots of different spin and placement variations to put your opponent under pressure.
    In the video, I explain how to do the serve, how to get lots of spin, how to vary spin and how to use the serve to set up a 3rd ball attack.

      After practicing this serve for at least 1000 times I played today with my new trainer :) Some of my side spin serves earned easy points for me and others somehow were returned to me with enough side spin to make me lose points :)) The ball movement towards me after it hit the table was not easy to predict :)) One thing is clear, this spiny serve is difficult to handle when unleashed :)

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 6 lety +1

      You'll soon get used to how the ball spins when it is returned to you. Happy to hear it was giving your opponent some problems. Keep going!

    Tom, I return to this excellent video often. When you anticipate where the serve is going, for example to the backhand corner, do you start your pivot right as the opponent swings or do you wait to confirm? Thanks.

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 5 lety +1

      Good question. Ideally you should wait to see where the ball is going. If you pivot too early, a better player will see this and return to the other corner.

    Thanks a lot for the video Tom.My question is this.Does bat quality play a crucial role in imparting lots of spin and speed or is it the players technique?I play with a basic bat.It does have some rubber on it,so I can get a little spin.But I cant get the speed along with spin like you do.My opponents return the serve quite easily.Your thoughts would be highly appreciated

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 6 lety +2

      Yes, the bat you use will make a difference. If you have a very cheap, basic bat, it will be harder to generate spin. You don't have to spend lots of money to get a decent bat. Take a look at this article for more information and recommendations: www.tabletenniscoach.me.uk/tips-on-buying-a-new-table-tennis-bat/

  • @Spinspiel
    @Spinspiel Před 6 lety +6

    You should be mentioning where on the racket you should strike the ball - as lower on the racket will allow more contact time and thus more spin and for less spin contact should move up to middle of racket.

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 6 lety

      Yes, good point. If you can contact nearer the tip of the bat, you will be able to get more spin, as this part of the bat is moving faster and you can grip the ball longer with your rubber.

    How can i make the ball go down the line instead of cross court

    • @TomLodziak
      @TomLodziak  Před 2 lety +1

      To make this serve go down the line, you need to turn your body a little more, so that when you contact the ball your shoulders are facing down the line. You can also try pointing you bat (as you contact the ball) down the line too.

      The key is to brush the side of the ball with some racket speed. This will generate sidespin.
