- AnnenMayKantereit haben sich ihren Platz in der deutschen Musikszene hart erspielt und im Dezember 2018 ihr zweites Album „Schlagschatten“ herausgebracht. Im Interview erzählen Henning May und Christopher Annen, wie sie mit ihrem Fame und den Fotowünschen von Fans umgehen - und wie sie im Ferienhaus-Studio in Spanien einem Geist begegnet sind.

Genau das beschreibt es eigentlich zu 100% warum ich eure Lieder (es sind ja nicht alle traurig, aber einige) so sehr liebe.
Das Alleinsein, die Erinnerungen und die Trauer in so schöne Worte und Melodien gepackt!
Zwischen den Zeilen lesen und für sich selbst die eigenen Gedanken dazu knüpfen.. Es sind Texte, in denen man sich wiederfinden kann und vor allem will.
Ich bin traurig über Dinge die passiert sind und ich will diesen Schmerz mit guter Musik verarbeiten und genau an dem Punkt setzt ihr ein!
Gibt's nen AMK Lied was nicht in irgendeiner Weise traurig ist? Wüsste grad keins

Genau den Gedanken hatte ich auch. Ich mag die Band sehr gerne, jedoch treten sie selten als Band auf, dass ist schade und da verstehe ich die Verwunderung darüber nicht, wenn man mehr einzeln wahrgenommen wird.

[Henning] "It's not Bayern Munich."
[Interviewer] "This is the first football reference from your songs that somehow caught my eye."
[Henning] "So I. I think I'm the biggest football fan among us and the others find it all kind of nice and exciting and funny, but don't sometimes have this burning anger when something doesn't go the way I imagine it. And for me it was above all just nice to have this FCK Halle in there, because that's a big part of it, also in my circle of friends. So there was never a song where I even had the association of incorporating footballers. Although of course, I'm sorry, Pocahontas run out of the stadium near you. I was writing lyrics for a long time, very shy, also when it comes to incorporating very concrete things like the FC or the glass ceiling or smoking weed.
1:30 [Interviewer] "You went to Spain to record your album. How was the daily routine so relaxed?"
[Chris] "We got up early in the morning, at 9 and met for breakfast and then thought about what we would do during the day. And then we actually made music until the evening, non-stop. And in those four weeks, I think we had a day or two off. so and.
Since nice together and.
Then we went to the beach together. At the moment Fabian and Markus, who recorded it, were cutting things so quickly all the time and stuff like that."
2:02 [Interviewer] "So I've already spoken to Markus. Max Ganter is more like that. So the German pop elite actually works with him. Did you somehow have to commit to recording it with such a big producer?"
[Henning] "A lot smaller than us. What we do is so about guy one of the first meetings we had with him. That's when I asked the question, not all the people we met with. What am I going to do differently on the next album? Especially vocally we say that again! And then Markus said well, a head voice would be cool. And did I say yes, okay, challenge accepted. And I thought that was great input from him. Also just to say then Ey, you are the boy with the voice sings and translates. So, and then it was quite clear to me, okay, you got it, mega, you're definitely our type.
[Henning singing]🎶 You lie in my bed and sleep and I want to first.🎶
[Chris] "There were things to be done in this flow. All the children from the village just stood in my bed and on the riverbank and were completely incredulous at what we were doing. They didn't understand it at all, but they thought it was super cool because they always carry cables around."
[Henning] "I think the most absurd thing for me was the service, because I think he made a video. For the family, the mobile phone ran through our house, through the holiday home that we rented and shows the living room, the recording room, the rooms of us as boys, somehow in the bathroom, somehow like that and then he sends the video and the next day he comes to us and says guys something funny happened. So I sent the video and then you get a message. Who is that old man in the living room? And then I watched the video again and then we just walked through the living room, said yes, and the food is always here when we eat at 12, here is another piano and blablabla. And then an old man just sat between the food and the piano that we don't know. He never showed up again after that. Nobody knows what that was. We also showed monsters, so we told this woman who owns the house.
Who is this man? you? No idea. And then one day a man was just sitting in our living room, was filmed by Sony and we think that's a ghost, that he wasn't actually there, so that he practically only exists in this video. That was super weird for us."
4:34 [Henning singing] 🎶I'm alone with the white wall. my fucking mind I do not know anymore.🎶
[Henning] "I was out with two buddies one evening and I was drunk and angry. And then I said the refugee crisis feels like a Reichstag fire to me."
[Henning singing] 🎶The refugee crisis feels like the Reichstag fire, even if I can't compare it.🎶
[Henning] "And then I said that it's a strong line and that I'm so cute when I'm upset. And then we kept writing this text, somehow. And now we have this song where we can make it clear not only for others, but above all for ourselves, how we actually see it. And that's the way it is with all of our songs, that they're more aimed at us and me than at something else, what we're saying now, you should do that, you should do that.
Above all, we want to somehow get things clear for ourselves if we stand by them. Nevertheless, of course it felt great for us, because somehow politics, I think, especially between the two of us, is a very big topic and it just feels good that the album goes into all areas of our lives and doesn't exclude one important area of life."
5:45 [Interviewer] "How does he get your life to just live normally? So you also have a line for the foreign, 'because I've become a stranger to myself.' Do you have certain rituals, methods where he just says okay, a little bit that we're normal?"
[Henning] "I think it's difficult to be normal."
[Chris] "Yes, I think so too, we just have each other. Well, the circumstances just changed really, really fast for each of us. And then you have to somehow build up a new normality, which maybe has a few overlaps with life before, but is also a bit different in many things. But then it becomes somehow normal. So you don't see friends like that for a long time and then when you see each other you somehow have a really good exchange or even have a good exchange when you're on the road. I was never the one who liked to make phone calls or I just can't do it like that, I always need someone in front of me to have such an exchange with them that that's something that has already changed for me, which I have too what the phone can sometimes lead to a long conversation."
[Henning singing] 🎶And I have endless wanderlust. Wanderlust for the foreign, because I have become a stranger to myself. I believe this becoming alien to oneself. That's nice that you picked that line because it's my first time addressing someone. What's a little bit about me is that people project onto me and they feel like they know who I am or they know me. And one cannot defend oneself against the fact that one often sees oneself as one is seen and then sometimes responds out of politeness. And I'm not really like that. So I'm actually not polite and actually not. I don't do anything to kinda please people and then catch myself doing it, like me then kinda because I think you're 7:40 15 years old and now take a selfie,
For them I am and then I'm somehow a stranger to myself. That's kind of how it is. No idea. Don't talk about wage dumping in the hotel in the evening and ask each other. But the next day we get on the Mercedes shuttle and somehow get switched back and forth between radio stations. So that's something. And then suddenly the two of them, the two guys from the band Mercedes, are sitting. Well, and that's also one of the things about it and dealing with it, that practically all eyes that look at you have already seen something of you. I think that's a big problem for me because I... 8:27 Very happy to be the stranger. And the human? Or just someone you don't know yet. So, and also that whole surprise factor that we both like to do when busking, that you are always standing and no one expects it. It kind of fizzled out a bit and that's sometimes a shame for us in many areas and I think that's why. I especially have to struggle sometimes that people have a very clear opinion of me and then get very angry with me if I'm not the way you imagine.
Totally engaging and emotional, which is what just appealed to me about strangers on the street. And that's kind of like that, that's kind of a huge brainfuck. And I really appreciate every listener incredibly. And that's I'm so thankful that we can make music. And at the same time I sometimes fake myself so blatantly when I'm sitting on the train like today. And then two people just look at me and talk about me and point their fingers at me. And I think dude! I can see you. I just looked at you guys twice, man. And that's the way it is, people sometimes forget when people are in the public eye that they're just people who see it and who don't think it's cool either when you point at them or when you make a joke or that's that it's a bit of this world, becoming stranger to yourself, that other people look at you and you see, they actually don't see what you see in yourself.
[Henning singing]🎶 All because of you. All because of you. 🎶
10:02 [Henning] "It was very important to me that the band was more in the foreground because I have a different position than one. Difficult to explain because it makes you look arrogant. But that's sometimes strange or hurtful to me. When there are cannons like at the airport and then a policeman comes and says I can take a picture and if we pick up the mobile phone and stand next to me, it's me, Otto And that's a thing, I just think so too like to be perceived as a foursome. And even if people find it very funny that Malte, well Malte, doesn't appear in our name as a band. We find it semi-funny when people joke about it because we feel like a band. Likewise, when we walk into interviews and someone says yes, where is the third from Arabia? And we both left at the moment. There's two other people, that's a little bit of this thing. I think it was very important to all of us that you also realize that this is a one-band album and not an album by me as an individual or by both of us or something."

[Henning] "I could also tell you very personal things, because that's what I generally do, that I get to know someone. I would like to have a good conversation and if we have no idea about family constellations and maybe also honestly my family constellation, because I always think to be honest with each other where the conversation leads."
11:35 [Henning singing] 🎶My best friend died way too young. I haven't had an engine for a long time. Usually. Tell me that you use the words🎶
[Henning] "That's why I think I can say things quite honestly in songs somehow. Still, it's natural. Because we're conducting an interview. Then someone says to me 'when did your mother die?' So. Hey, what does she say? Did I say. When did your best friend die? And I say 'before old age.' What kind of journalist are you? please ask me something else. I wouldn't answer the question. I don't want to answer the questions. But now it's also difficult to tell anything about the song. Many thanks. That's the way it is, those are the negative excesses of it.
But there are also an incredible number of positive excesses. For example Casper I don't know if you know the song Michael X, with which you can have a very long, very nice conversation about what it's like when a good friend dies too young and then you kind of have a connection facing each other and knowing you know the pain. It always sounds like that, but it's really like that, I like to do it if it's somehow very nice, but in the same way, so at the same time very, very sad. And then it's very nice to somehow have a sad conversation that you shot like that at the same time. And I watch it.
12:54 [Henning singing] 🎶The birds shit from the sky. 🎶
[Henning] "This line came to me because we were in Porto, on vacation, and the bird shit on it. did i sing A bird. shit from heaven. Let's stick to plan. Combined that with another text. And then we recorded the video, on the roof of Alphonso, a guy who used to live in this village.
And then we're up there and I was shitted on by the bird and I didn't wash the t-shirt because my father could prove it at home. Shit on a bird when we shot this video. And then we are in Zurich. talking about this song. In a video interview, they are told how this line came about, that a bird shit from the sky and the bird shits on. And I really thought to myself Ey, how lucky can you be?"
[Henning singing] 🎶And I'm sitting barefoot at the piano again.🎶
[Henning] "For example, I was writing, but by the time I was 17, I was playing at school events. And of course I may have outgrown it a bit. But I still play it at every concert because it makes me happy that it makes people happy. And if someone yes, how should I say if you're lucky enough to play in a band and you kind of have songs that people want to hear, then you're supposed to play the request. I don't understand how you can say, this is a song that a lot of people want to hear, but I don't play it because it's ten years old.
I personally can not understand if someone decides for themselves. everything cool with me But when I play a concert with the guys in Cologne in 20 years, we will also play the piano barefoot. Well, I don't think you can outgrow it somehow. In any case, you will, I'm kind of 17 and in love, then it's kind of over. Then I write a song, then we play that and play that and play that. And then, ten years later, we always play that. Of course it's wild, but it's also totally okay and it also gets you on me. It kind of got me going too. wie gern ich mit henning mal über politik reden würde. oder mit allen der jungs. da hätte ich unheimlich bock drauf.
ich kenne das gefühl auch, ich rege mich politisch über vieles auf und habe klare ansichten, aber man erwischt sich dann doch dabei, dass man gewisse Dinge genauso tut wie es einen bei anderen abfuckt. ich finds auch ultra nervig, dass (besonders bei henning) ständig thema ist, wie geil oder süß er ist. er und die jungs haben soviel auf dem kasten, nicht nur musikalisch, das nervt mich dann als fremde außenstehende schon, wenn Leute so fangirlen wegen Äußerlichkeiten. Ihr seid fein, allround undso
Das geht mir auch so...hatte eine bein nem konzert,die sich bei mir durchdrängeln wollte, nur um einen der jungs an der schulter zu berühren...da konnt ich es mir nicht verkneifen zu sagen dass das auch nur menschen sind und genauso wie wir ka**en gehen...und diese kommentare unter den bildern...w t f....so genug aufgeblustert.

Sehr sympathische menschen, zu dem part dass henning will dass sie mehr als gruppe gesehen werden; no offense aber dann sollten sie vielleicht auch als band ein interview geben und er sollte christopher auch mal reden lassen. Die Tatsache dass die songs fast alle von ihm geschrieben sind und irgendwie anscheinend viel nur mit ihm zu tun haben verstärken das ja auch. Und hinzu kommt noch dass er bei dem gespräch hier ganz oft nur von sich redet (obwohl sein bandmitglied daneben sitzt) "dann spiel ich den song trotzdem"..

Schönes Interview aber schade, dass fast ausschließlich Henning redet...
warum chrissi zwingen, wenn er vllt einfach nich wirklich was dazu erzählen mag/kann... Vielleicht is er einfach an sich bisschen ruhiger und Henning kann womöglich einf besser vor allem über seine eigenen Liedtexte reden. Ich finds nicht schlimm, dass er das meiste beantwortet hat, ganz nett sogar, wie viel er zu sagen kann.
Find Christopher aber auch voll sympathisch, in anderen Interviews redet er mehr :)
