    Bheur Hag + Ice Wall + Cone of Cold. First time I almost TPK'd all my PC's. Terrifying. Snow encounters go!

    I LOVE THIS VIDEO. Very well explained, demonstrated, and we can clearly see the value and cost savings. Instant sub.
    I believe you can save some time and money, instead of using acrylic medium and then painting over it, just mix the acrylic paint with the baking soda. Acrylic paint comes with the medium already in it and the pigment takes care of the painting step. This does not however solve the flaking or cracking mentioned. I would imagine that the modpodge + acrylic paint solution should solve that (as the modpodge will provide the protective layer, and the paint will supply the pigement you want).

    Favorite snow encounter. Ambushing the party on the side of a mountain after a two feet of fresh snow had fallen as they are trying to cross along a path across the face of the mountain. The ranger caught on and did a Survival check to determine that this was prime conditions for an avalanche. So, spells that cause loud noises such as fireball, lightning bolt, etc. were taken out of play right from the get go. The wizard was not happy at all, definitely took them out of their comfort zone. Even shouting is dangerous in that situation.

    My favourite was when I threw some snow sprites at my players, because it just ended up being a snowball fight between them and the fae. One of the most fun encounters I've ever run. No one got seriously hurt, and it was a great break from the main quest.

    Snow theme encounter: I had an ice hag that was troubling a village living in a frozen cairn. After a few illusion spells to make the players chase some non-existent zombies through a blizzard, she glamored herself to look like a lost child from the village till she could get the paladin by himself and wreck some havoc.

      Oh good ole deception. Honestly, players really shouldn’t underestimate deception and illusions.

    Looks great. Thanks for the vid. I do have a question. I've seen some vids talk about putting mod podge in with the paint. Would that help give it a more solid consistency for the snow as well or do you think that would be overkill?
    Appreciate any help!

    • @HouseDM
      @HouseDM  Před 2 lety

      Great question! I honestly don’t know. It might help but then you run into issues with “yellowing” over time. I personally haven’t experienced this but I see a lot of talk on the internet expressing concern for snow turning yellow when pva glue or mod podge is used and left over time. Wish I could be more help but I’d have to test it out first. Glad you enjoyed tho!

    Curious to see if it yellowed at all since this was done over two and a half years ago? The multitude of reported chemical reactions with baking soda over time are a concern. Currently looking into discovering a viable technique for detailing a megaton of Frostgrave nautical themed terrain bits and pieces. Sub'd. For your algorithm.

    • @HouseDM
      @HouseDM  Před rokem +1

      Hey hey! I’ll check them closely when I get home. I was nervous about that yellowing aspect too. I think they’ve held up but I know you can use the same recipe with white paint and it prevents that issue.
