I'm a low-level manager. What I do when I get told you're not coming in is, "Is everything OK?"
This way I'm finding out if it's a write-up or not while not putting you in the spotlight with whatever is wrong. Employees will say they're sick or will say what ailment they have.
It's fully up to you and I'm not pushing because I simply asked if you're OK.
If you say you're sick, I can't push. I only say if you miss three days of work, you need to have a doc excuse.
Legally, you have to provide a doc excuse after missing 3 days of work.
If it's a Friday and you get sick. Call in on Friday, show up for work a few hours on Saturday, looking death but make sure you clock-in for legal reasons. Leave early, call in Sunday. Monday, get a doc note.
By waiting till Monday, you had some time off and paid for a regular doc appointment instead of heading to urgent care on Sunday.
The boss-boss will ask why they called in sick and I'll tell him I didn't ask and he always tells me that's why I'll never be a great manager. I do tell him I'm Legally not allowed to asks. He just looks at me then walks off.

I was involved in a riot and my coworkers broke protocol and didn’t assist because they didn’t like me.
I was a security guard at a drug rehabilitation facility. Alot of our clients were gang members. I was outnumbered 10 to 1 and they had shanks. Nearly got jumped 4 times because they were intimidated by my stature
It was a classic situation of good cop bad cop. I was one of the few guards who actually cared about the patients; most of the staff didn’t even bother to learn their names and viewed them as an irredeemable waste of time. The teenagers broke protocol and left their rooms to say goodbye to me despite threats of getting written up by other staff
Afterwards the regional director calls a mandatory meeting ON MY OFF DAY, and the numerous people who broke protocol didn’t even get a write up. Putting my life in danger and no write up. Meanwhile, I get sick twice in a month, come back visibly sick, and get chewed out
I wanted to say goodbye to the kids proper but their intuition was right. I couldn’t endure that place for another day

This is so accurate. I recently got let go because I called them out for the lack of work/life balance. The messed up part is I moved 3 times for this employer in 1 year, I travelled intensely, created brand new curriculum that open massive doors for them, and when I told them I was tired and needed to do something different because the schedule I have is keeping me in coping mechanisms that aren’t healthy… they told me perhaps this job is not for me and that I need to get my personal life in better order. Last week, the laid me off for no reason - and it was because management didn’t want to hear what I had to say.

I’m in my 50s and already I often find myself pondering how I would have handled things if I knew then what I know now. I’ve quit several jobs along the way and before I quit each one my mind, body and spirit were trying to tell me it was time. If you’re on a job and each morning before you go you can feel the anxiety, you can hardly believe that you’re still l having to deal with it and you often fantasize about not having to show up at it. It’s probably time to go. There will be other signs like you’re getting into it with coworkers when you normally don’t, you’re getting into trouble when it’s not your fault or getting blamed for things you had no control over. Looking back on it that was the universe telling me it was time and giving me motivation to go. And every time I jumped ship there was a better opportunity waiting for me.

bro, I just quit my job and I have no back up plan. But I knew that if God had given me the first job, he could give me another, and it didn’t have to come at the expense of my spirit. My husband was in full support as well - and we’re praying for the right fit, but in the meantime, everything you said, I completely agree with. Lifting you and your family up and definitely standing with you as a CZcams creator (who’s been on hiatus for sometime 😅) but now I have time to get back into the CZcams game.
I think the catalyst for me to resign was when I realized that I was nothing but a “maintenance” person in my position. they did not care about any of my new ideas, or perspectives, or even skills that I was growing in, they only cared that I maintain the status quo. And that didn’t sit right with me not to mention, it became pretty toxic towards the end so cheers to leaving situations where it is negatively impacting us more than growing us.

That's truly amazing and I strive to have a mindset more like that daily. And also I definitely agree with you and how these big companies don't care about the hard working employees that help to keep their system running. Just like you said those types of jobs are not for us creatives because it doesn't give us an outlet to have ideas or be unique. I also want to say, being a husband myself I'm super happy to hear your husband was supportive with your decision. About 6 months ago my wife told me she felt called to be a stay at home wife and I wanted to do whatever it took to make it happen. I very much respect him for supporting his partner in that way. Lastly, I'm seriously praying for you sister! I hope for nothing but blessings for your family and growth for channel. May God keep his hand on your life. Much Love 🙏🏾🤍

I’m great at acting happy while at work, even if my life is falling apart. But negative bosses and coworkers take my bubbly personality as “she’s ditzy and dumb”…. I got great grades in school and am highly intelligent. I had enough of the degrading put downs🤬 quit my final “job” April 14th, 2024 and now doing DoorDash full time while I complete my already started business and adding a personal budgeting product line to help others get out of the toxic rat race. Pursuing music and just living a happy life while my azzhole ex managers and azzhole ex coworkers keep doing the same negative azz sht every day.

Mental health is very important, I almost had a mental breakdown at my last job... I quit my last job because I was overworked and underpaid. I did get a raise but it was too late imo. I also had to deal with a death in the family. I told them to use my bereavement days. They didn't... they put them down as unpaid days off. I fought for those days off. In the end they ended up using my pto for it. Main reason I quit was the job stress just got to me after 3 years. I was constantly overwhelmed and overloaded mentally.

Especially when was defending myself I wouldn't say what a coworker accused me of. I actually told them I had a knife against my wrist and they didn't care, but fired me for false allegations that I was joking about and making inappropriate comments off a sensitive topic like that. Unfortunately employers don't care about your personal life. They are paying employees to work. However, there are rules around mental health, discrimination, health and safety, bereavement leave etc. You also have sick leave and annual leave. Things like not getting enough sleep or childcare are not the responsibility of your employer. That's why people need to decide whether they can work for a company or work for themselves. Business is business but in some cases, managers are compassionate but some aren't. I've worked for organisations and then decided to become a business owner so I can play by my rules.

Of course. Look there it is. It's so beautiful. It's so amazing and then that opens your eyes a little bit and you can say oh yeah look that thing's beautiful too and that's beautiful and that's beautiful and that person's beautiful and I'm beautiful. Oh my god it's all so beautiful and then that takes you to a whole new level as a human being and then you can delight in reality and you can enjoy everything as one giant work of art. I work for a company where the managers are rotated every few months to help relive pressure I guess
because our work can be high intensity. And I can say that it really helps at times. I like my company a lot
and all the managers but sometimes some of them do not see what I needed or what I was talking about,
I felt like they were just going by the text book that not really fit into the situations that I was in
resulting in tension and even resentment for a while if I was not allowed to do what I needed to do as
I work out of the office and I have to call in to get approvals if I need to change course of planed actions.
There is some managers that just go along with basically everything you say that you need and these responses
are most helpful to me as an employee to do a good job. I understand that all of us are just learning to do our jobs
the best we can and that includes the managers. I think a really clear communication is key of what our needs are
and that they understand that we need them to try to make it work if possible if its something we need.

You agreed to work certain days and hours in return for a set rate of compensation, and you didn't hold up your end of the deal...if you didn't get rest that's on you,not your employer...you must be wealthy in order to just quit your job like that.

You're right, I didn't hold up my end of the deal. But what you fail to see is that things like this happen in business. Employees are people not robots, so that means unexpected things can happen because we all have lives outside of work. To act like someone's life could not affect their job at any point is extremely foolish. And no I am not wealthy because I quit my job. I quit my job because I understood that the quality of mental health is more important than that job. A job can always be replaced.

There certainly needs to be balance and I agree it’s foolish to assume we can be at our workplace 110% of the time when there are so many factors outside of work that are often out of our control. Shit happens. Best you can do is manage within your means, and if that ain’t good enough for them then we move on to employers who will. In my last job, I had found out the hard way that everyone I worked with was a bully. My first week in, three people quit, and the latest supervisor walked off because of how toxic the women were in the department. They would literally complain about everything someone had done that wasn’t to their liking (they were tenured and it was a union job so you can imagine how evil these wretches were).
Additionally, these women were all insecure with their positions and felt the need to nitpick and gaslight newbies. From training us incorrectly and to making us do work they didn’t want to do. Later in the year, two other newbies hired after me had vanished and never returned (they just silently turned in their badges and quit). Turned out the most senior worker had yelled at them, saying work was more important than any of their families. She was an old boomer who married her career, had no children, had no husband so she was salty asf and super rude/bitter. She had the attitude that she was better than everybody and refused to show us the ropes. If she was forced to, she would train us wrong and laugh at us when the director and numbnut manager would write us up. That job was honestly the definition of a hell hole. The only reason I survived 11 months of that crap was because I had to pay off my masters degree and finish my speciality certification. Once that was done, I went BYE FELICIA and quit. I only gave them 5 days notice because I PTO’d the rest of the 11 days for the needed 2 weeks standard.
The job sucked so bad, it affected me physically and mentally to the point I had high bp (I’m one of the younger millennials so WDF), anxiety and a newly discovered allergy to casein cuz of all the stress I was undergoing. Btw, this was a scientist job that no one wanted and only after I got in, I realized why 😂
Moral of the story is: your mental and physical health is more important than a paycheck. Once everyone starts mobbing you and bullying you because of their insecurities, it’s time to pack your bags and leave. If your management can’t protect you, and your union don’t do shit, just walk off the door like hundreds of others. IMHO companies don’t give a shit about any of their workers anymore. And if you do find that one job even if it doesn’t pay well, just keep it man. Cuz health is wealth.

After my parent passed away “all you know what broke loose”. In both instances “they” made work so difficult. I wanted to quit when my parent was alive to give full time care but both of us would have been homeless. I tried not to make a major decision (like quitting) immediately after parent died. Hung in as long as I could and quit in January of this year. So now there will only be ONE person at risk of being homeless- namely ME. It’s all good though I trust in God
