Took this train to chicago after boot camp from Great Lakes. Great ride.

Metra really needs to get on top of doing official cab rides for the Union Pacific lines.

The UP lines always were conspicuous by their absence on the Metra channel.

Great ride, but I'd love to see it earlier in the day. I'd like to pass through Great Lakes while the sun is out, one more time.

Could you do a southbound video that would be facing forwards? It seems that the Union Pacific North and the Heritage Corridor are the only two Metra lines that don't have a real-time, full length, front-facing cab ride video. Metra has said they plan to do an official Ride Along for the HC at some point, but since UP "won't allow" Ride Along videos, it would be nice to have one from someone else (though frankly I think that UP is full of it, since several other people have gotten full length videos of the UP-W and UP-NW lines and they haven't pitched a fuss or demanded the videos be taken down)

So would you recommend this over the Hiawatha service offered by Amtrak for Wisconsinites commuting to Chicago? While it is less frequent and possibly more expensive, it is faster.

It's like this route was owned by Metra, with the lack of UP Freight traffic.

How many lines in the Chicago area run wrong iron? Or as we say against the current of traffic. I think I read something years ago that some Chicago lines run this way and some F locomotives had the engineer on the left side or maybe dual controls.

@@PeteDJPJ despite the various stories of the first locomotives CNW got being English locomotives or such IIRC the real reason was as they expanded the number of tracks they expanded away from the sides with the depots and wanted to reduce the number of passengers having to cross to inbound trains as well as for the inbound milk runs to load from the from the depot side rather than having to move the milk cans across active tracks to stage for loading.
