- One of the songs that I played over and over again growing up was Mad World by @TearsForFearsOfficial. Hard to imagine a song that seems more relevant right now. I am so happy to share a new beautiful version by my dear friend Curt Smith of @TearsForFearsOfficial with his daughter Diva recorded for us from their quarantine life in LA.

As a father to daughters, I love this. As a musician, I love this. As a Tears for Fears fan, I love this. As a person with ears connected to my brain with a beating heart, I love this.
Great response! I enjoyed the progression.
I love ur words. I love music. Music has ability to reset the rhythm of my heart
Wonderful said 😘
This song was always one of my favorite TFF songs from back in the day, even though it's strange and kind of disturbing. Cool to see Smith and his daughter performing it---he still sounds good, too.
We get it, you love this
Wow! Beautiful!!!
Imagine seeing you here!!! Im doing the same thing just playing acoustic covers and come across this!!! Love you Rick B!!!
When will we see a duet with you and one of your kids?
Hey Rick Tears for Fears gave an interview couple weeks ago that they are releasing a new album and I know you are a fan of them like us!!
I think a Tears For Fears “What Makes This Song Great?” is in order!!! Love your channel, Rick!
🎶 *@Rick: Just watched your latest WMTSG featuring TFF. Thanks, Rick!* 🎵
*When will your episode about Alphonse Mouzon & "Ascorbic Acid" be airing?*
Her harmonizing tho. It sends shivers down my spine.
It needn't be better.
Seriously chills and tears in my eyes…..so beautiful on so many levels.
He is better than the original singer. So sad that unknown singers like him don’t get enough recognition
I find myself returning to this song once again. The beauty of he and his daughter playing this....I remember the song new, as a old man now and a grandfather, to see this, simply beautiful
A child that can laugh and play music with a parent is a blessing.

I was probably his daughter’s age when I first heard this song. Now I’m 55 years old. Always a TFF fan. Beautiful harmony!!

I was there in the early eighties when in late 83 I became 14. Glad to have been there with all them great bands. Some stil and/or again playing now in 2023 which says it all to me!!!!
Me too’
Hard to believe, but his daughter is actually about 21 here. She was born in ‘99
3 years later and this is still amazing. If you didn’t know it was his daughter and it was in radio, you would think “that’s a great back-up vocalist he’s got there. So good.
Only just discovered, Great version
Imagine the moment when you find out your dad was responsible for some of the best and most popular music of the 1980s . . .
Excellent! My second favorite father/daughter duet. Adrian and Audie Belew “Oh Daddy” #1.
Could You imagine how mind-blowing that must be? when you’re a young child growing up you don’t even understand what that means. then one day it hits you. both the dad and the child would give each other Interesting looks and have very interesting facial expressions. and I can’t imagine what those initial conversations would be like.
@@gofishglobal7919 Pete Townsend's Daughter was unimpressed. I'm sure many of them feel their parents are uncool no matter how cool the rest of us think they are.

Apparently, Ringo's younger son hates the legacy...
My ex boyfriend used to play this song on piano and guitar, he passed away in July. When his mom and I were looking for a song to play at the funeral, she remembered this song.... we cried and decided that it wasn't appropriate for the funeral because his death was tragic. My 21st birthday was on sunday and as I was having my first drink with my family, this song came on in TGI fridays, such a strange place and timing, but it was Jake coming to say happy birthday through this song.... he knew i would hear him. Thank you so much for your music and me being able to hold this memory so fondly, i will always sing this song and one day I hope to learn to play it even though ive never played an instrument myself
Music is very very powerful, almost as if it’s not even from this Earth. It’s a very special thing. I’m sorry for your loss and I hope you’re doing better. I hope that this song will continue to connect you two for eternity
I am very sorry for your loss. I wish you the best in your musical efforts!
shit, this made me cry 😢 so sorry for your loss, and the way you expressed about music is pure raw magic. I can tell there's none than beauty and light in your heart.

I came across your post purely by chance. So very sorry for your loss Tarah! I found your recounting of your experience very touching. I hope you find some comfort in knowing that you'll never be alone as long as the memories of your lost love live on. Wishing you peace, comfort & healing at this most difficult of times...
Curt Smith is a genius and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to Diva. Amazing.
Curt seems like a humble, kind person. In this "mad world" we are currently living in, listening to this was soul soothing.
She looks just like her dad and is brilliant singing with him in this classic tune.
I'm a 50 year old man, father of a daughter, sitting here with tears in my eyes. This is the most beautiful thing I've heard in a long time. Curt, Diva, your music has caused me to pause and reflect in this confusing, frightening time. Thank you. THANK YOU!
Super sweet comment, much love!
Wow your comment touched me so much God bless you, greetings from Africa
Funny, I cried too. The one verse reminds me of my daughter.
You made me cry! 😍
The words out of my mouth.
Honestly the way she is coming in with her vocal parts really makes it feels really special, it's like a slow volume rise into a beautiful harmony.
I can feel a tiny little warming in my cold black heart. They sound amazing together. Wow.
yes!!!!! the second voice* is so good
Doesn’t matter if Curt is performing with a full TFF band in front of thousands or just sitting and strumming with his daughter, he still gives it his all. Beautiful!
Very true!! Musical legend and Professional!!
When her voice kicked in, I got goosebumps. Beautiful.
If you sit together with your daughter playing this song, the world can't be that mad.
The madness are the down thumbs! people get older and it's a bit of a shock when one minute when you were an Askews model as I was back in the early 80's and then begin to get..well, old. I say to my friends kids that if they are lucky, they'll live to 60+. I hope I'll be comfortable in my own skin one day and how wonderful to sing with your daughter like this
Well said brother.............
If we could all just sit down and sing with each other like these two, the world might not be so mad.

So true
The father and daughter’s voice just fit so perfectly
It sounds great when family sings together. Siblings or parents, it is beautiful.
Similar vocal chord structure, tone of voice, common language and cadence. Makes family singing divine. Awesome daughter, btw.
Tears for Fears were extremely underrated, perhaps too easily overlooked. Their content was not fluff like pop music is today. We need to revisit their stuff intently just like this.
Um, no. They were not underrated at all. They were very much appreciated. They won Brit and MTV music awards. The only one underrating them is you.
I think they were well recognized at the time. Critically and in the top 40.
I think it’s overrated when people think completely critically, acclaimed world, renowned bands, or performers are underrated. Dude, just because they’re not still getting airplay. For God sakes they have 19 million listeners on Spotify monthly. Elvis only have 17 million. Now go put on some headphones and discover some more bands that you can claim are underrated. There’s this really funny one named after a bug that many people I’ve heard of. Beetle men. Or something like that
I agree! the lyrics and arrangements are layered and complex....but the so accessible people miss this.
That would be a good decision!
30+ years and this song is going strong. It transcends generations and genres. And a father/daughter rendition to hammer home how wonderful it is. Beautiful.
actually 40+ (released in '82) years
Imagine if your dad had wrote one of the most iconic songs of the last 40 years and you are good enough to put a beautiful slant on it! Hats off, great version

It's actually Roland's song.
For anyone who has a daughter (I do), this is as heartwarming as it can be. Good fathers make great daughters.

Love this song. It’s so haunting and heartbreaking.
No one harmonizes better than family members. They have that semblance implanted in their voices. This was a prime example - beautiful, natural harmony. Bravo!
In old country music they called it "blood harmony". A good example is The Louvin Brothers.
Never thought about it but then I think of the Bee Gees, Jacksons, Osmond's, and even the Partridge family.

Right on
this continues to be a Mad world.
Even knowing who's performing, I didn't expect it to be this good.
It started off amazing enough but, when the harmonising began it gave me goosebumps - and I'm a pretty jaded music snob. Bravo 👏
I was a fan of Tears for Fears from my university days many years ago and remember when this song was first released. It's wonderful to see Curt Smith now playing this piece with his daughter. 🧡🧡
LOL, Pop gave her all the hard parts - the rhythm guitar and lead, and the harmonies. Pop must be proud!
Haha, I didn't even realize until a minute or two in that she was playing the harder guitar parts, because she was doing it perfectly :)
Generous dad... sweet happy kid.
Playing bass and singing at the same time is nothing to sneeze at.
Of course! who would play the bass?
@@capper1618 I remember going to a Peter Hook & The Light concert. His band included a bass player. I wondered why, until Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order) explained he could not play the bass and sing at the same time. Fair enough.

I always wondered what that Jules guy’s slowed down version would sound like with Curt singing it. Glad I got to hear it before I die.
I think that’s the sign of a truly great song, when it can be stripped down to very basic instrumentation like this and still sound utterly magnificent.

He understood childhood pain and he’s clearly changed that pattern with her….and then they sound THAT GOOD together.
This is beautiful. And on a weird side note, I have always wanted a father who would spend time doing this type of thing with me. I’m glad relationships like this exist between fathers and daughters. 🥰
I hope some day you find a relationship like this. I have an amazing relationship with my daughter, I have also have had the opportunity to become good friends and mentor to young women who have interned at my company. I have been amazed by their talent and initiative. I had one woman, a young single mom, who made a point of returning months later to thank me for helping her learn the skills to get a dream job. In a long, old man sort of way, I'm saying there are some wonderful older people out there who are looking for those rewarding relationships as well. Sometimes you just have to slow down and give us a chance. It also wouldn't hurt if some of us boomers would stop being so judgemental. Best of luck.
My dad taught me about radios, guns, and computers. I learned guitar on my own and he embraced it. I owe him everything.
Yes I am the same, my dad is in his 80's now and was never a nice person. I am still amazed when I see good dads to this day ( and a bit jealous if I am honest). I had the best Mum EVER though and she made up for it 10 fold, sadly Mum is no longer with me here on earth....I LOVE these 2

It's insane to think that while this song was played over and over again she wasn't even alive. She just wasn't here. Her consciousness didn't exist... And when we're gone she will do the living. Tears for Fears really hit the airwaves big-time when they first started playing their tune's on the radio here in The States & they were certainly all the rage for a time, unfortunately their song's ( the big hits anyway ) were so depressing that they kind of fell out of favor as fast as they hit in the first place.
