  • Rifle covers come in different shapes and sizes. One thing they have in common - they can save your hunt by keeping your optics free of moisture and debris as well as protecting the working parts of the firearm. We grab Paul Neess between hunts, to chat through some tried and true models, their features, and which one may be best for you. Full disclosure, Paul hasn’t been a rifle cover user. Does he change his mind? Tune in to find out.
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation™ podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

I’m always striking flip caps on stuff when they’re open. LOVE ❤️ your neoprene covers! Ideal for a blind hunter. No back country hunting here where I think the covers shine.

I like the Bush Edge Scope covers sold on Amazon they have great scope covers which offer more protection than usual scope covers .I take them off before final stalk but great for protection during travel and around camp. Not a big fan of flip up caps still seem to trap moisture and dust.

If you are hunting with thermal optics, it’s important to NOT let your scope bake in the sun. Usually, you’ll set up during the day and shoot after the sun sets (coyotes and hogs). So, with a nice scope cover you can set your rifle on the tripod and leave the scope covered until you’re ready.

I run the solo hunter cover. I really like the idea that it covers 90% of the rifle. If you've ever hunted from snowmobile or spring in the mud and using an ATV with it slung over your shoulder it's gonna save you some grief

Scope slickers work well, built in lens cloth and don't get lost/accidentally removed. Taped barrel and carried in my pack scabbard, pack fly for rain/snow cover while it's in there. No extra weight of bulk, decent protection and access

What I find advantacious (I am in Scandinavia) is keeping the glass on the scope dry and my binoculars relatively warm to hinder fogging when you look through them.

Air amor is what I'm leaning towards, I want to have a cover to protect it from a fall, so it has the most padding and I can add a muzzle cover at any time.... Trying to tape a muzzle break sucks.

I think for a few extra bucks something like the VORN EV series of back packs do more. Now if you are using a pack with external gun sling, the pillow one would be my pick.

I have a built-in gun holder on my backpack , that I'm going to try out this year. I also have that sock cover with no padding in it . I'm trying to figure which one is better.

I'm ot much of a hunter, however there could be more hunts in my future. I'm here in SW Montana and we are pretty wide open for a lot of our game.
I do more range and distance work, Churchill/Amsterdam, Logan, Three Forks, Townsend range days. We get a lot of wind, which kicks up dirt and dust, and in the winter blowing snow (yes we do long rang work in the winter), so it would be nice to have and action/scope cover for even rang days or local beer league rifle matches.

I own both the Solo Hunter rifle cover and the Sthealthy Hunter. The Solo Hunter is really nice for keeping nice wood stock guns from getting scratched up but the Sthealthy Hunter is super nice for protecting expensive scopes!! And the handle is very handy!! (Pun intended)
If I could only have one…it would be the Sthealthy Hunter!

  • @eliinthewolverinestate6729

I would like a barrel sleeve. For when I am out hunting in bad weather.

Once you drop your rifle on a hunt, welp there goes that. I've dropped my rifle bore first 6 inches straight into the mud, didn't have a way to clean it and my hunt was over. These days I used the little orange rubber covers that fit over the muzzle.
