The real composers of "Adinu bi-dîni l-hubbi" are the great artists Aïcha Redouane and Habib Yammine. In 2004, they composed this beautiful poem of the Sufi Ibn Arabi (12th, 13th century) for the Fes Festival of the sacred musics.
This song may be a pure Sufi song... but has a heavy Christian and Jewish feel to it... displaying quite beautifully the richness of Andalusian culture, where Muslims, Jews and Christians cohabitated peacefully for many centuries and their arts and cultures cross-pollinated one another...

Change also Al-Andalus by Morocco, Magreb, or North Africa if you like better. Al-Andalus doesn´t exist as it anymore, it was the name given by arabs to Iberian Peninsula and south of France. Fez, if the song was performed there, is in Africa. Thanks
It's not a song actually, its a poem, i think the 11th or the 13th ode, probably from the Turyuman al-ashwaq (The interpreter of desires) It's commonly known as "Laqad sara" which means "It has become [my heart]", and it talks about how Ibn 'Arabi's heart has turned into shelter for all beings. It's also mostly known for its verses "Adiinu bi diini el hubbi" and "Al hubbu diini wa imaani" The first one says: i profess the religion of love; and the second one: Love is my religion and my faith...

we should never forget that tolerance and respect of other cultures were the values of El-Andalus. also, and it is very important: Jews were part of the societies they lived in, they had the same cuisine (rare exceptions), same music and very often the same language. Dont be fooled there was no such thing as a Jewish song (in Arabic) in Spain or North African countries, there was only artists and art. Please, lets don't try to separate the nail off the finger.
