I walk into a second hand record shop , its on the wall, can I have it , NO ! the old man says Its his favourite cover he says, disappointed I ask him for any Caravan, Incredible string band, and Dead, He grins, I saw the Dead in New York with the Allman bothers and Fleetwood mac, he says
Pride of man, Fresh Air. What about me, Don't cry my lady love , I found love, The Fool, Maiden of the cancer moon, Joseph's coat. Mona and definitely who do you love from happy trails are my favorite Quicksilver cuts!! Love the SF psychedelic groups Quicksilver, Jefferson Airplane, The Dead, Big Brother & Janis, Moby Grape
There exist quite some of Who Do You Love and I think even more of Mona. Not as many as for Dark Star by the Grateful Dead, but ... enough I think. ;) There is also a live version of Smoke Stack Lightning, which is actually exciting and rousing. ( I'm not talking about the one on Maiden Of The Cancer Moon)
John Cippolina is in my top 10 🎸 He mentioned his brother in Huey Lewis, he told me of the antics between QS and GD back in San Fran daze...my bros fav band was 🙏 🕊 ☮ 2 Johns Thanx Maz! 🖖 🤗 Il Maz
I love this man madly, when it comes to outstanding guitarplay, too. But for a long time I was kind of not aware of Gary Duncan's important and shape giving role as a lead guitarist for Quicksilver Messenger Service. You can hear this most obviously impressing on their selftitled after John Cipollina sadly had left the group. I love Cipollina/Duncan duetts like on QMS' first selftitled album and on Happy Trails.
"Maiden of the Cancer Moon," the double live L.P. from Psycho records, was my favorite Quicksilver record when I bought it in '83. Still the best. I think most of the live stuff, plus the aborted first album was released on "The Unreleased Quicksilver Messenger Service: Lost Gold And Silver" by Collector's Choice Records back in '99. I won't say they're better than these original releases...no, wait, they are! I like the first two, but those two I mentioned are much more exciting. If you love this stuff, you have to find those live recordings from '68. And thanks to a whole bunch of angels, there are a lot of live bootleg recordings on CZcams.

Yeah, Grateful Airplane and everybody but Quicksilver was the greatest of San Francisco in this Texas boys opinion. About the best box set I've seen put up here.
Dino Valenti and Jesse Oris Farrow were the stage/songwriter names of one person, Chet Powers. Chet also wrote lyrics that other bands covered, such as Youngbloods "Get Together". Many feel that Chet as Dino Valenti turned QSM away from their psychedelic rock roots to a more commercial sound that then led to John Cipollina and David Freiberg to leave QSM.
