It's a fantastic machine. I'm 51 and nothing has fit in to our routine so nicely like the tonal. There is no other piece of equipment that would allow me and my wife to work out before work everyday. The variety and ease of use makes it worth every penny. Also our wellness program covers 90% of the membership cost.
I tried one in the Chelsea Market location (pre-Tonal store) and ordered it immediately. One year in and I haven't quit my gyms (two) but am considering quitting one. I want access to the pool in the other. When I first got my Tonal, I longed for an in-person orientation for the very reason you mentioned - there's a learning curve. Once I got the hang of it, I started liking it.
