Hopefully, they let us use Chinese audio with English subs. The voice acting sounds fantastic and I would love to be able to enjoy the game in the story's native tongue while understanding the context of whats happening.

Looking back to the first time i saw the previz for this and since have been keenly waiting and hoping for its release. Hope it succeeds in giving us the best gaming experience.
Hearing that music in the beginning gives me goosebumps and I almost had tears in my eyes. Long gone is my childhood but what a great game. I hope more ppl get to know this piece of Chinese mythology through the game.

Jimmy is probably an 80s Chinese kid like me, and so this music is something unforgettable to us due to us watching this when growing up, like it is coded and hardwired into our brain. We might not be from the same country, but all Chinese 80s kids definitely watched this same TV series growing up. Just a tiny bit few seconds of the opening theme and we already know what song it is and what show it is. It is that memorable to us. The only other TV series that has the same impact for me is Digimon Adventures, the very first one.
The Sun Wukong from this TV series also looked the best and acted the most convincingly, from the makeup to the actor's movements really naturally resembling that of a monkey. The rest of the Sun Wukongs from other Journey to the West TV series that came after didn't even look or act the part of a monkey as convincingly as this series. They're just actors wearing some furry suit. They don't even walk or crouch or squat like a monkey, but like humans instead. Even if the actors made the effort to behave like a monkey, it looked unnatural and forced. Even though this TV series is the earliest and oldest live action rendition of Sun Wukong, it had also set the bar so high that no other actors even came close to this legendary timeless classic masterpiece that the actor Liu Xiao Ling Tong portrayed Sun Wukong. This actor will and always will be the one and only true actor of Sun Wukong to us. He is the untouchable king that no actors can hope to surpass in terms of portraying Sun Wukong.
Also as kids watching the series back then, we didn't truly quite understood the depth of Sun Wukong's powers. We, or at least for me, just thought Sun Wukong's 72 Transformations meant he can transform into 72 different things, but it is only when I got older and read the novel did I realise how mistaken I was. 72 Transformations doesn't mean he can transform into 72 different things. What 72 Transformations truly meant was Sun Wukong has 72 different unique abilities, with shapeshifting/transforming only being one of them. No other main character in any other works of literature has as many variety of powers as he did. All of his feats, such a superstrength, superspeed, cloning, making inanimate objects move, reattaching his head after decapitation, flying, breathing fire, shooting lasers from his eyes, moving underwater without the need to breathe, creating impenetrable barriers and wards, paralysing others, vanquishing demons and deities (part of his 72 Transformation is the power to kill Deities (Gods) themselves. Which is why they are so scared of him), destroying souls, communicating with and commanding animals, always knowing where his destination is (one of his 72 Transformations is a GPS Google Maps function. Not impressive now but back in the time period of the 7th century this is extremely helpful. This is also why in all illustrations of Journey to the West Sun Wukong is the one at the front leading the party, because he knows the way to go) etc are all part of his 72 Transformations. Perhaps the most powerful of his 72 Transformations is the Finger Point. By simply pointing his finger at the target(s), he can immediately evoke the spells from the other 72 Transformations without the setup or rituals required. Like a cheat to bypass the process and getting straight to the results.

In the original book, these four gods were just the first group of gods sent by the heaven to arrest Wukong. Later, another group of gods were sent to arrest Wukong, namely Erlang Shen and Taishang Laojun. The story of Erlang Shen is very similar to that of Wukong. He also once fought against the entire heaven alone.

As someone who read many yet some of the various iterations of the Journey to the West (yet not that different from each other), the end scenes tingles my story senses as I can figure out what was the story that happened there (part of the Journey's story).
Definitely one of the best this year!
