- ᜐᜎᜌᜆ᜔ ᜐ ᜉᜈᜓᜈᜓᜂᜇ᜔!! First of all - yes, this is heavily inspired by Vox. I'm relatively new to motion graphics, and always liked their animation style, so I decided to use it as my learning reference.

This video was created as a result of me having a sudden spur of interest for it a few months ago. I somewhat intensively practiced writing baybayin randomly throughout the day, mostly when I procrastinated on doing the things I should have been doing lol. And since it wasn't even remotely hard to learn (compared to Japanese and Chinese writing systems for example), I thought it would be a cool idea to share.
What are your thoughts on it?

I'd also like to give a shoutout to my school's student publication "The Squire" for letting this video also go up on their social media pages. Check them out!

The quality of this video made me think that this is one of those popular channels.
This deserves more subscribers
Really appreciate you guys :') Motivating me a lot to work on more projects!
Every Filipino (including myself) should learn their pre colonial customs and languages. Don’t let our cultures die!
Yes thats right! We in the cordillera still practice our precolonial traditions and customs except headhunting ofcourse!😊
I learnt baybayin in one week as a high school student, its simply isnt that hard, its fun and easy to learn.
Sakto, tama
It really sucks how we could've still been using these scripts. It would show more of our diversity. I've been imagining how amazing and unique every place you visit would be in the Philippines. Idk how we got stuck with the latin alphabet. I'm from philippines btw.
I refer to this script as the one with the butt character. But for real, awesome video! I’m half Filipino and I’m trying to learn Tagalog online. Learning baybayin could be a fun little extra still to add on.
Hahahaha yeah that was one of my first thoughts too the first time I came across this script. For learning Tagalog I'd suggest watching some Filipino shows online, it makes the learning experience much more enjoyable, as well as being able to learn the slang and other nuances :D Best of luck!
get your filipino parent angry at you, so they scold you in tagalog
Difficulty writing baybayin is writing the correct sentences
😂
Fun fact... almost all south and south-east asian abuguidas come from the Brahmi script, an Indian abuguida , developed around 300 BC.
Its descendants include- Devanagari, Kaithi, Sylheti Nagri, Gujarati, Modi, Bengali, Assamese, Sharada, Tirhuta, Odia, Kalinga, Nepalese, Gurmukhi, Khudabadi, Multani, Dogri, Tocharian, Meitei, Lepcha, Tibetan, Bhaiksuki, Siddhaṃ, Takri, ʼPhags-pa, Tamil-Brahmi, Bhattiprolu, Tamil, Malayalam, Odia, Sinhala, Telugu, Kannada, Goan, Saurashtra, Tulu, Burmese, Ahom, Chakma, Karen, Shan, Khmer, Thai, Lao Cham, Balinese, Javanese, Sundanese, Recong, Rejang, Budu, *Baybayin*, Pyu

The best Baybayin tutorial video so far. It's simple, straightforward and comprehensive.
0:56 Baybayin is not exclusive to the Tagalogs. Badlit, Kurdita, Basahan, and Baybayin are only variations of the same script. Kind of how the English have 'Alphabet', Spanish 'alfabeto', and the French 'l'alphabet'. Different names in different languages for the same script.
That's right! Realized this a bit late though hahaha. Thank you for bringing this up Matthew!
True. It's unfortunate that baybayin was hijacked by regionalists when the more established authorities like Hector Santos and Paul Morrow regarding Philippine scripts all assert that these were just variations of the same script.
how does this video not have a million views already
Baybayin is based on morae (singular mora) instead of syllables. A syllable is a vowel or diphthong that can have multiple consonants on either side. A mora is a single vowel sound (diphthongs and long vowels are split into two morae) and/or a single consonant sound (before the vowel, if there is one in the mora). Baybayin is three syllables (bay-ba-yin) but it is 5 morae (ba-y-ba-yi-n).
Baybayin is so interesting to look at, its unique and stands out.
Absolutely amazing quality content. You've earned my sub
I know Kawi script isn’t a Filipino script but it was wide spread in the Philippines, I think is more widespread than Baybayin and it’s children system.
Yeah one day hope Ph can have keyboards in Baybayin writings just like Thailand

Thank you for sharing this! i've been learning baybayin a month ago now and it's quite hard for me to memorize it but that's ok. I wil just have to continue practicing it. and I am going to apply babayin on one of my artworks soon. I am preparing for this for our 125 years independence day on 12th June this year.
I have been trying to learn tagalog alongside its original script since 2016 and this video gave me yet another push. Thank you!
Im Filipino myself and when i was in grade 1 the teacher taught us sone simple baybayin and since then i find it so interesting so i want to learn baybayin.
Amazing! It is really easy to learn cause I already know the language, what I struggled with was reading.
Don't know how this video doesn't have more views!
So very interesting. Thank you very much!
Fantastic quality video, you're highly underrated!
Thank you!! 🙏🏻
This channel deserved a rise...such a high quality video.
Correction, vote wisely/ Vote smartly in tagalog is Bumoto ng Mabuti = not BOT WAYSLI
In Filipino that is completely correct! However, I was showing how the script can be used for an English phrase using Filipino phonology, given how much people use English in combination with Filipino nowadays.
I liked this content much very educating, well pronunced and very clear and editing so professional , looking forward on your next vlog life in Bukidnon pls stay safe stay con give my regards to your mom
Thank you po, I appreciate it :))
damn bro, this pretty cool
Abugidas are prevalent throughout South and Southeast Asia, and they are descendants of the ancient Brahmic script of India. I believe they are by far the best types of scripts to represent the native languages of South and Southeast Asia.
Lovely video

wow i didnt know it was this easy even though i am filipino, can you post something again. we need you to come back
since baybayin is a bhrahmic script it can take some diacritics for e and u
while some modifications to fit the modern language
Mygod! Last year.kopa nalaman may ganyan pala pilipinas huhu ang ganda sana kung yan ung writings natin😂❤ gusto ko tuloy matuto
Why is there klezmer music in the beginning lmao
That's so easy. This makes me jeaulous as a Javanese😁. We also have our own abugida before we use the latin alphabet but the script is so complex and hard to remember😵💫
Its hard but beautiful tho
0:44 kurdita, basahan, and badlit aren’t actually different writing scripts, they are all baybayin and those names just mean baybayin in each langauge (eg. Kurdita means baybayin in ilocano)
That's why i created my own Baybayin which combines all the variants into just one script. I call it "Modern Baybayin One Script Option".
Filipinos should at least learn one of those scripts. Tagalog with Latin alphabet looks outlandish.
May I ask what about ng?
Is it a mix of na and ga or nga but with a cross below?
For the sound "ng":
That would be "nga" with the cross. The mixing of "n" and "g" is a digraph from the alphabet since it does not have a single letter to represent the sound. Baybayin, on the other hand, does have a dedicated character. So using "na" and "ga" in Baybayin would keep the sounds separate.
For the preposition "ng":
This would be "na" + "ng" (fun fact, the ng we use in sentences today is shortened from its original spelling of "nang"!). They key is to write from how it sounds, not the way we spell it with the alphabet, because it has its own separate rules.
Hope this helps!
@@SamuelHeinrich thx!
❤
I’m half Punjabi and noticed many similarities to the punctuation of Gurmukhi script! Abuguidas seem like distant family members.
very interesting

Why is there glottal stop everywhere?!
It's just a common feature in Filipino languages :)) I was quite unaware of how unusual this was for other languages until I tried teaching some foreign friends a few phrases where many can't even register a difference in the pronunciations between "kítâ" and "kità" (apologies if I misused any diacritics).
ᜋᜀᜌᜓ
My grandpa knows how to write in badlit..
real
0:23 no!!!! 😭😭😭
It should return to the Philippines,
But slowly
The only problem is... Not many Filipinos including the Tagalog ethnic groups like myself do not speak Tagalog that much anymore and would speak the Filipino language instead. As Filipino is more versatile and can easily substitute words to English, its really hard to write it in baybayin as baybayin is only catered to Tagalog words/sounds. Sadly the way I see it is that Filipino is slowly transforming to English which will be even harder to write in baybayin.
So in order to revive Baybayin, we need to restore Filipino first and maybe eventually transition back to Tagalog (for the Tagalog people) but yeah that too will be imposible.
Reminds me of japanese writings 😅
ᜠᜥ᜴ ᜮᜬᜳ ᜥ᜴ ᜱᜩᜳᜨᜲᜰ᜴ ᜰ ᜪᜬ᜴ᜪᜬᜲᜨ᜴᜶

Modern BAYBAYIN should be compulsory for Elementary and High School students. DepEd should also revive Spanish specially for those individuals planning to work in a Call Center, in the US, Mexico, Central/South America and Spain. If this comes into fruition, majority of the FILIPINOS will be considered POLYGLOTS (a person/group of people who speaks 3-5 languages, preferably >5 fluency).
Even the one that has least subs than me has great edit nice lol
just a correction, baybayin isn't only original script of Filipino
Baybayin is known as Tagalog Script
Baybayin is only used for Philippines Languages
(like Austronesian Languages)
Hahaha sanaol is not a real Pilipino! :D
I always thought that written language of Filipinos was sunskrit!!
Hehe, not really, but I decided to sneak it in anyway 😉
Close, Baybayin descended from the Brahmi script, which is also in modern India, if I'm not mistaken.
99% of filipino don’t know how to read and write baybayin
Coz it's never been taught in school before and seldom now.

You’re cute
the latin alphabet is sooooooooooooo boring😒. we need to change scripts.
I know right .
Are you aware the dot on i is a diacritics?
Fun Fact: The "cross" is actually a Spanish addition to the script. Originally, Baybayin lacked a way of indicating if a consonant is devoiced. So, "magnanakaw" (thief, to steal) would have been written as "ma-na-na-ka", since the devoiced "g" and "w" could not be written without a trailing vowel. Pronunciation was simply implied based on context.
Other Filipino scripts, including Kulitan, have ways of indicating if a consonant is devoiced. Kulitan, in particular, does it without using a "vowel-cancelling" sign.
Baybayin a divine language?
