Pitting artists or entertainers against each other in a contest with arbitrary or subjective criteria, judged by self-assigned people, is pretty undeniably weird. Some artists were more polite about it criticizing it than others, though; it was always nice to see an "It's nice to be recognized" disclaimer thrown in there.

I live in the mountains in North Georgia the school I went to was tiny and even though I was happy and pretty popular I never felt quite like I fit in. The embarrassment exhibited by the other members of the band and Kurt Loder is off the charts here, esp. when Eddie tries to be lighthearted and fumbles his way through a joke. When I saw this I was thinking he was the one who was in big trouble, not Kurt Cobain. The press were constantly talking about Cobain as if he were about to fall off a cliff but he put on a much better public face than Eddie did.
You can tell the band is so subservient to Eddie, especially Jeff and Stone. I think they really feared showing happiness about success of their band when Eddie was around. At the first 20 second mark Jeff raises his hands in an expression of happiness for the band and then stops and turns to look at Eddie. He’s like oh no I made dad mad lol. I love PJ so much but I would be lying if I didn’t say there’s weird power dynamic to the band. I understand Jeff and Stone had lots of trauma from losing Andy and MLB, they just wanted to do whatever it took to make Eddie work out for the long run and for their own careers.

We wore vintage and thrift store clothes because we didn't want to feed a corporation sweatshop money and we cut labels off of clothes because we didn't want to be identified and labeled... And that just created a new identity and new label. There is no escape. So, many that "made it" continued to hold both middle fingers up whenever they could.
Eddie has sure mellowed out over the years. Looking back at some of these interviews, he just didn't give a fuck and spoke what was on his mind. Making some of these interview feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable.
