    Hi Melissa, I am a little confused. To use the hyaluronic acid, you have to get your face wet but you can’t apply water after the toner.😅❤

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před rokem +2

      Correct, that is why it is bullshit. I do not know why some dermatologists and influencers are showing this. 🙄
      Anyway, Hyaluronic Acid cannot absorb more water; it already has absorbed all the water in the serum.
      So you clean your face
      then take a clean towel and pat the skin dry
      apply glycolic acid
      no need to put water on the skin
      apply hyaluronic acid
      apply other skincare products if needed
      Also don't confuse damp and wet skin.

    Hi Melissa! I'm also in a skincare group, and what they suggest is using the Squalene cleanser as a first step, then use a different one for the 2nd step. I read that others with oily, combination or acne-prone skin find it a bit too much, causing them some cc's or even breakouts.. 💕

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello Anna 😃,
      I think it depends on the person that is using it and what he/she likes or needs. For example, my husband is using it, and his skin is very oily, and he doesn't use another cleanser afterwards and it works well.
      Generally, men do not have issues with breakouts; therefore, it may not matter. But I always wonder if it is really the product causing the problems and not something else they aren't aware of. Similar to me. In the beginning, I always thought that the cleanser was the issue, but after a while, I have noticed that the exfoliant was it, and I got these weird-looking pimples that almost looked like little wounds when I overuse it.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 9 měsíci

      I think using them together regularly might be too much, so it's best to use them on different days in your evening skincare routine. However, even then, it could become too harsh over time. If you experience sensitivities, consider adjusting the frequency by alternating them every other day or so. It's a matter of testing to see what works best for you.

    Hey Melissa,
    I hope everything is going well with you..
    I need your help.
    Like yesterday I used glycolic acid toner and I forget to close the lid.
    the bottle wasn't fully opened, but there was a small space which allows air to go inside the bottle. It remained like that for 24 hours.
    Today, I used it but it didn't sting at all. Like it used to Sting a bit every time I use it. Is it still working or not ?
    Send you best wishes 🙏

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před 9 měsíci

      Your glycolic acid toner is likely still effective after being exposed to air for 24 hours. The lack of stinging doesn't necessarily indicate a loss of potency; it could be due to your skin building tolerance. However, check for any changes in color, smell, or consistency to be sure. If you notice any significant changes, it might be best to replace the product.

      @@fawn5980 Because I have acne-prone skin, it is not a cure for acne/pimples. However, it helps to reduce acne marks by exfoliating (removing dead skin cells).
      Your skin needs about one month for an entire renewing cycle; during that time, you can help speed up the process with exfoliating acids or other treatments to renew it faster. So, as a result, you will have the blemish disappearing much quicker. Still, that does not mean you will not get any new blemishes/acne.

    hi melissa i’ve watched a few of your videos and they’re by far super helpful compared to others🫶🏼 i’m still not completely sure if this routine is decent enough or considered too much. what do you think? 🥲

    cleanser - kiehls calendula deep wash and nizoral shampoo ( for fungal acne )
    hyaluronic acid - the ordinary 2% + B5

    hyaluronic acid - the ordinary 2% + B5

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  Před rokem

      Hey! :)
      I would make the following suggestions, as some products serve similar purposes for the skin:
      AM:
      Cleanser: Kiehl's Calendula Deep Wash and Nizoral Shampoo (for fungal acne).
      Hyaluronic Acid: The Ordinary 2% + B5 or Snail Mucin.
      Niacinamide: Naturium 12%.
      Sunscreen: La Roche-Posay 50+.
      PM:
      Cleanser: Kiehl's.
      Toner: The Ordinary or BHA/Salicylic Acid - Paula's Choice (both are exfoliating acids, so don't use them together).
      Hyaluronic Acid: The Ordinary 2% + B5 or Snail Mucin.
      Overall, your routine looks good! Just remember to avoid using exfoliating acids together to prevent over-exfoliation.
      But if you have fungal acne, I recommend visiting a doctor who can prescribe oral medication. This approach will help it disappear quickly, and it's considered the easiest way to treat fungal acne effectively.

      Is CeraVe SA Cleanser the only cleanser you have?
      People claim that Glycolic Acid can apparently help to lighten dark knees and armpits - because of the removal of dead skin cells (I have never tried it, so not sure how effective it is...). You could theoretically use Glycolic Acid for those areas, although the armpits are so delicate that I wouldn't do it. You can use Alpha Arbutin and Niacinamide for your knees too.
      So, yes, you can use Glycolic Acid (in the evening), Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin (AM and/or PM) for your face and/or body.

      Well, if you are only doing that a few times per week, it can work, although the problem arises when using it too often in combination. It exposes your skin to too much of the acid, which then causes skin irritation, such as sensitivities, redness, etc. So, it would be best to alternate them every other day (or so; see what you tolerate) or simply test both and see which one you like most and tolerate best :)

      BHA is Salicylic Acid. The 'what to not use in the same routine' applies to pretty much any chemical exfoliant as it can over-exfoliate the skin, leading to sensitivities. Hey :)
      Sadly Glycolic Acid doesn't do much for acne still it's everywhere all over the internet 😖
      I recommend using Panoxyl and Adapalene. And you still can use a 2% SA Solution or cleanser and the Niacinamide along with it.
      E.g.,
      AM:
      Panoxyl Cleanser or The Inkey List SA Cleanser (Alternate)
      Niacinamide
      (Moisturizer if not exposed to the sun, suitable for your skin type)
      SPF ( Moisturizer with SPF when exposed to the sun, e.g. Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream)
      PM:
      Squalane Cleanser
      Adapalene (e.g., Differin Gel 0,1%)
      That should work well. If you experience stinging or burning because of Differin gel, reduce the frequency to every other day. Dryness/Flaking around the mouth is normal and not an issue (more here czcams.com/video/rvdtBmdXFMc/video.html)

      @@jayyyc8629 Panoxyl's 10% BP cleanser is pretty intense and can be drying/harsh on the skin. I have tried both, but I prefer a lower % of BP. That's why I recommend using a 4% or 5%.
      However, you could also switch to a Salicylic Acid cleanser. It does not have to be from The Inkey List, but I like that one; therefore, I recommend it. As for CeraVe's cleansers, their SA Renewing cleanser isn't wrong either. However, it does not mention a % of Salicylic Acid. Therefore they now have an Acne Control Cleanser with 2% Salicylic Acid. Still, they also have a 4% BP cleanser! :)
      You can use the Caffeine Solution daily in the AM and PM after cleansing. As for Rosehip Seed Oil, test it. I haven't tried that combination; however, it may work well before or after Differin Gel.
      Niacinamide and Differin Gel should help you to improve surface hyperpigmentation.

      Hello Radhika,
      Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid are sadly not the best products for oily skin; they often make it worse, as they only "remain" on the skin surface. So my advice is to use a BHA (Salicylic Acid), for example, The Ordinary SA Solution.
      How to Use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution:
      czcams.com/video/PkQPgtklWCA/video.html
      But to answer your question, no, please do not use multiple exfoliating acids after another as it just increases the chances of irritation dramatically. At some point, you will over-exfoliate the skin and may get a damaged skin barrier.

      But also other factors, such as the weather, play an essential role, and you can experience it for a couple of weeks until the skin is fully adjusted to it. And after that, it disappears, and nothing else is needed; it is just the natural cycle, as I would call it. So you have to consider these factors as well.

      It's not the best exfoliating acid for oily skin since it's primarily working on the skin surface. Salicylic Acid would be the best option since it has also oil regulating properties and can work in deeper skin layers. Or a combination of Salicylic Acid and Glycolic Acid to get both benefits. But yes, Glycolic Acid can help to improve acne scars and it isn't wrong to use it on oily skin! ;)

Personally, I'm very concerned about using certain products in sensitive areas, especially under the armpits, as chemicals are absorbed more rapidly into the body there. I'm not worried about glycolic acid, but I am about the other ingredients, like preservatives. That being said, if you're using it only occasionally, it might not be a problem. However, I would certainly avoid regular use.
