  • Celebrating Metro Schools' dedicated teachers on Teacher Appreciation Day. A message from Dr. Adrienne Battle, Director of Schools:
"It’s Teacher Appreciation Day in a year unlike any we’ve ever experienced before, and I appreciate you and the work you do even more than I did before.
Your work inspires us all. It’s essential to the success of our city. And this spring you’ve shown once again that when you’re required to teach in new ways, you rise to the occasion and make sure Nashville’s children continue to learn.
You’ve also stepped up in response to tragedy and adversity by delivering food and providing essential services to students and families after the March 3 tornadoes and during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Your role in the district’s humanitarian response over the last nine weeks has been critical.
And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard parents from Nashville and across the country express their newfound appreciation for the teaching profession as students have been at home these past months, and they’ve had to take a more active daily role in their child’s education.
As your director, I receive daily commendations of you and your extraordinary work that you are accomplishing every day. I couldn’t be prouder to serve as your director of schools.
Many of you have gone above and beyond to make sure your students have the educational and social-emotional support they need during this unique time in our lives.
It hasn’t always or often been easy, but your compassion and dedication have helped to get us and them through this crisis.
I wish I could give you all that you deserve - including a hug or a pat on the back. We have to hold off on all of that for now, but please know that I am thinking about what you mean to Metro Schools and to all the students we serve. As a district, we’ll continue to do everything we can to reflect how much we value you.
It may never be enough, and certainly you all deserve more, but please know that I’m committed to your well-being and growth now and in the future.
Now, in these last few weeks, let's knock it out of the park and show our community that together, we are MNPS Strong.
Once again, I hope you have a happy Teacher Appreciation Day!"
