It’s amazing to see the piaffe especially not being mechanical at all like the modern dressage horses of today
Wie wunderschön! Damals war die Reiterwelt noch in Ordnung:)
What wonderful footage, after just watching the 2023 dressage in Mechelen, it's amazing the how different the head carridge is today & im sure most of todays elites would not like to be filmed training their horses
So eine Aufrichtung siehst du heute nicht mehr.
Did you noticed how Russian horse ignores a big, white peace of paper flying right in front of him, while performing beautiful Piaf-passage transitions? :O
Sergei Filatov on Absent, Akhal-Teke stallion. Individual gold in 1960 and two bronze in 1964.
It is delightful to see this. Thank you!
Joseph Neckermann's horse's name is "Asbach".
The horse's pedigree is shown at the beginning of the film. His name is Aspach.

Does anyone know where/how to find an old black and white video of Bubi Gunther? the video I am remembering is passage on the centerline in an indoor stadium.

Do you know the horse's name? It's got such a wonderful passage/piaffe.
4:55 (starker Trab), 6:25 (Galoppwechsel):
Pflichtvideo !!!
Famous riders on famous horses. A treat to see them again.
In those days, the horses were not as naturally "talented" as those bred today. But the training was far better -- and more correct -- than what is shown today.
I disagree with your statement the horses back then were not as talented. Today’s warmbloods are over bred and oversized and prone to injuries. Horses were bred for performance and speed back then as they should be. And they were better riders as they had more people who took years to master horsemanship unlike today’s 3 year wonders with money.
You people love to write fan fiction about the "good old days".

Oh dear.
I have to agree with emmawillard. If you look at Ahlerich in the '80's compared to dressage horses at that level today, you will see how breeding has changed the dressage horse. But today's horses are more often behind the bridle, ie over flexed in the neck than 40 years ago.

When the IOC changed the rules to permit professionals to compete, that was the death knell of the equestrian events.
