  • I find partners love to tell their weaker/less experienced partner how to play, but then refuse to do the thing that will ACTUALLY help them improve. Best Badminton Shop on the Internet!! badmintonbecky...

I’m an American living and learning badminton in China. Follow me on my journey from total newb to (hopefully) expert player both on my blog and my vlog! Like most Americans I had never played badminton seriously or even knew that it was a real sport until I moved to China and fell in love with it. I feel very lucky that I get to learn the sport in China although it definitely brings it’s own challenges both with the different language and culture. I will share both the victories, frustrations and every embarrassing moment in between with you.
You can see video about my first 2 years of progress here: • Badminton Progress
Please support me on Patreon! Since I live in China every dollar goes further here and I’d like badminton to go viral and make a bigger impact on mainstream culture. I think if more people were exposed to badminton then they would love it. Help me make badminton more popular and get some exclusive perks! / badmintonbecky

I agree! Usually when i play with a player with not much experience, be it men's or women's double. I will usually play according or set the ball to what their strengths are and if they make a mistake, it's okay! It's a learning process :D

I love living and playing in badminton too haha.
I'd like to add whether playing with a beginner or not, communication is super helpful. I try to shout out Go! (get the shuttle) or Mine! and it makes a lot more difference when playing doubles especially with newer players as sometimes they hesitate when the shot is in between the both of you. Even newer players will get much better shot quality if they know to go for it or not.

I’m find myself in two positions here. I understand what you’re saying and badminton insight did a video on just this thing. Throwing your partner under the bus because you want them to learn isn’t really a kind tactic that’s going to encourage them to keep playing. A couple of times a week I play with a group where they’re all retired and most are either 70ish and one is even 94. I only have to hit the shuttle to the back of the court or over their head and I win…. But I try very hard not to play that way with them. Most half clued up people already can tell who is the weaker player in a partnership when playing each other and so they usually get all the traffic. So sometimes it’s often necessary to help protect the weaker player…. But that doesn’t mean you do everything for them. I think that’s the real distinction.

Yeah, Of course if there is a special reason, (like a 94 year old!) or someone coming back from an injury or something, then that's a little different. But that's just for a game or two, generally not with a regular partner.

Yo this FACTS!!!! 1000000% Agree , if you keep on getting all the shots it's just going to get your partner expecting you to get them and not bother , nice vid

hmm i feel that there are 2 types of "weaker partners". One is new players, the other is the slower/elderly players.
I will usually cover the elderly players who know what they should do but could not do it. I think there is nothing wrong in this as that is precisely why we need to balance the players for doubles.
For the new players, i will usually just play to their tune as there is honestly too much to teach in a game... just enjoy the games and dont talk too much as they say...

Recently, I met married couples who are playing for fun. The husbands let their wives make mistakes. There is that one man who told his wife to stand at the net & wave her racket regardless of the shuttle is near her or not. She was so close she could smell the white top part of the net. Strange match.

I totally agree! People learn from failures! Let them miss it. This is also true for many other situations! Quality content 😊

There is a guy in my former badminton group who doesn't understand learning from failures. So, he is quick to blame his partners. His argument is that because he is the better player, anything anyone says is invalid & he is always right. And he doesn't bring his share of shuttles or hides them in his bag. Because of his attitude, everyone attacks him. He loses because he is mentally weak & focused on critizing his partner.

@@TheHi-T Thank you for sharing your story! I have had that experience too. After all, we all play this sport to be happy and have fun, not to rank people by who knows more.

My friend likes to do a high serve when losing 20-21. I let him go get the smash that he could not return. He has to learn that a low serve is the better choice.

Love your ranting, let the dominant players know they are not good for singles so behave in a doubles pair team! Lol
