phil actually played unbelievably well here. i’ll be honest it’s refreshing seeing him like this rather than rage montages
The problem is that he knows the viewer ratings go up with his "rage montages." The increased ratings have encouraged him to be more of a brat, and to live up to that nickname. It has encouraged him to act even more like a 9-year-old girl.

@@lyubomirkaradzhov165 All the pro poker players say that Phil is a great guy off the felt, and they all like him. In terms of on the felt, I don't think the top pro poker players mind him either, because they just know how he is. It's entertaining for them to try to get Hellmuth on tilt, because sometimes it's really easy to, and primarily because it's funny to see him act like a 9-year-old. I believe that he's a great guy off the felt. It's only that, for me personally, I'll never get along with him at a poker table because I think he acts immaturely, and he's definitely way out of line whenever he insults someone at the table. I just can't respect a guy when he does that.

What choice did Daniel have... Can't talk smack then get walked and then talk smack... He had Zero choice but to B Classy.
He knew he played very bad most of the hands, but end up winning those thanks to pure luck... Like he got 3 runners in one hand, and 4 runners in the next one, and was dead when Phil got the Q pair, but Daniel got his 13% out with the K and also won that hand.
You think so? He was disrespectful waiting on the diamond, and when he stood up to shake the hand before the final card came out. Not very classy.

Pretty impressive how Phil was stone faced despite getting coolered multiple times. The KK vs KK hand is a poker player's worst nightmare. Oh it's a chop, oh no wait runner runner runner runner flush, I lose.

He doesn’t react nearly as much as you see on TV. You can make anyone look bad or good on TV. Half the time they don’t even show when donks needle Phil continuously.
Him going all in on the big game with a set vs top pair with no draws on flop, running it 4 times and losing 3 out of 4 times was the Worst beat ever. Set, Runner runner straight, runner runner flush..

He's definitely the annoying fish you think you want at your home game until he starts hitting all his bs. So hard to play against someone who has no range and is running hot. But yeah losing that 3 out of 4 when he was so far ahead has to be the worst beat ever. Especially bc everyone at the table was needling Phil so hard. Even though it was one of those situations where you're too stunned to react bc the near impossible happened I think I would of lost it.

That 83 play was unbelievable! Helmuth changed his game so well knowing who he was playing. He gets criticized so much, but he really is one of the greatest.

I really like this version of Phil. Leaving the schtick behind and taking a calmer approach. No blowups, no breakdowns, just being classy and playing top notch poker. He's been saying he was the best for years but because of all the bravado and meltdowns it was hard to take seriously. It's been a real treat watching him prove it in these duels.
I wonder if Phil still would have said "I think you're one of the all-time great players" if he had lost the game.

I never thought I'd say this, but Phil Hellmuth was impressive. He reinvented himself. 5-betting with 83 suited, not going on tilt when he got coolered with KK and a straight. He really is a student of the game.
There's one of Phil's rants which comes to my mind. After a bad beat he went on a rant and the opponent said: "Calm down Phil, it's just a game!" to which he responded: "To you it's a game. To me it's my LIFE!!" Just shows how passionate he is about the game.
I like the mutual respect at the end..battle is over shake hands kind words and that's that

I would’ve tilted so hard on that K3o beat after the KK v. KK flush beat. Phil played great. That’s brutal. Phil is actually the sweetest dude away from the table and when he’s not on tilt.

@@jamiecook4288 I like both players as well. I understand if the Daniel's or Antonio's needle Phil because he's played with them for years, what I don't like seeing are next generation calling him with crap just to see him explode. He's getting better at handling it though.
Now put Hellmuth up against Doug Polk and crush him. Polk might be a phenomenal online heads up champ, but live, he can't beat Phil or Daniel. Phil is indeed one of the GOATS and he may be ridiculed, he may be a brat, but he proves why over and over.

It's great to see two players that understand the dynamics of the game and have a mutual respect for each other. Sometimes lucky cards fall and bring victory from certain defeat and that's just the way the game is.

@@Alex-gb8em probably because it's true? I mean we'll never know and there's no denying that Phil is a short stack genius. But short stack play is very simple compared to deep stack, which in almost every match during the deep stack portion Phil was usually doing pretty poorly.

that AQ vs K3 hand, NEGs believed Helmuth was on tilt and wanted to pressure him to fold best hand. Helmuth was frustrated but surprisingly not on tilt at all and made the correct call. Great play by both of them in general but I like Phil much better as he progressed into a new mindset. Not only has he improved his game but he also improved his vision in general. not blowing up after KK and AQ losses is just a big improvement in every way.
Heads up Phil is a monster becoming one of my favorite players used to not like him but I was pulling for him here after his apex predator monologue

Does anyone think Hellmuth would have been as gracious as Negreanu if that last hand had gone the other way? I'm glad to see Phil held his temper on those coolers (shocked, really), but Negreanu is classy no matter how the hands go. Still, these are two of the best in the world going head to head. What a treat.
The first hand in this video was the best hand of poker I've ever seen. An 83 and 22. So much thought into each call and bet.

Well put. In this format, there aren't enough hands to justify game theory math (in my opinion). The winner will usually be the one who is better at judging each situation by living in the moment and reacting appropriately.

Nah, it's just a terrible flop/board for 99. Hellmuth is not going to have many 3s in his range, and on the turn there are a crap-ton of draws and pair+draws out there. 9's are good against most of Hellmuth's range. It's close, but I think Daniel made the right call long-term. Maybe the biggest pause is simply how often Phil is semi-bluffing there VS showing up with a straight/trips even with his "cold" range leaning towards the draws/pair+draws. Despite Phil's 83s hand Daniel knows Phil's bluff frequency (especially big bluff frequency) is lower than GTO would dictate.
Playing time card was sign of weakness Daniel!
2 of the greatest poker players of my generation. I wish I could watch the whole thing twice. Once with each of them, and get their thoughts on each hand. I think that would be the greatest learning experience, for poker, that I could ever think of.

I really enjoyed this match. Phil playing very well and super surprised he didn't loose it with those bad beats he got. Impressed. And Negreanu is the man, all class as usual.
Maria Ho is a terrible commentator.analysis is way off and just not entertaining
I’ve found that poker is grasping at female “stars” to be the face of poker to bring in more women and all the simps that drool over a semi decent looking woman. I respect her for her skill, but the simps put her on a pedestal for her looks which is sad because she looks like she’s had 20k in plastic surgery.
God Maria Ho was a serious downgrade from Nick Schulman. Nick is seriously better at breaking down the matches and he + Ali also had a great chemistry. Not to mention Nick is a far more accomplished player as well. Also Maria Ho is close friends with Daniel IRL and did not even attempt to hide the fact that she was completely biased. Makes me feel better that she had to watch Phil eat him for breakfast though.
