- This week Liv is joined by Khruangbin’s iconic bassist Laura Lee. Also known as “Leezy” on stage, Laura and her bandmates Mark and DJ have an instantly recognizable sound - a blend of funk, soul, and disco - that’s cultivated them a massive fan-base, with sold out tours, festival headlines, and collaborations with the likes of Leon Bridges. In this episode, Laura takes us through the inception of the band from their early days in Houston to the barn they record their music in, how she uses fashion to create her on-stage persona, and gives us a behind-the-scenes of their latest record, Mordechai Remixes.

Having dinner together every week for 3 years before ever playing music together is absolutely charming ❤
Why did they wait 3 years if they were all musicians?
The Leon Bridges collaboration is a such a gift.
Those 2 EPs are always on my road trip playlist.
Yessss!! So good
I'm 51 and have to say one of the best groups I've heard in a long time . Great music love it
Same here.. But you don't have to mention your age... 😊 (I'm about your age)
Great music i agree
I'm 46 g-damnit! I'll claim to be a part of the generation of the 51 year old. Proud to say we have an ear for good 🎶.
@@l.cruces2223 So do us 62 year old rockers! These kids have a great sound no matter what your age.
@@xxw379k indeed we are old...but their stuff slaps.
Fantastic band. Her bass lines are super tasty. She seems to be a very cool person too.
Her bass lines are sickwiddit.
@Grizelda She's a beautiful person. ☺
She clearly listened to Jamerson-Jemmont ALOT!
I’d call it Lofi that’s not lofi at all but super sophisticated lofi. Love it
"If you're interested, you'll figure it out." Sums it up perfectly.
What I love about this band is how despite being flash they’re thing is simple and basic in the best way, and it just works, it’s just the three of them , no overdubbing, transparent about gear and setup, and it just works.
She comes across so grounded, it's the key to a happy life.
You can see how much she loves doing what she's doing.
She is the definition of sensualness on stage
I know!
Ya i agree,,, she is so soothingly sexxy on stage
Not the definition...but a great example. People love to misuse the word "definition" these days.
...and sensuousness or sensuality. You're welcome.
You can tell the bass is what Laura feels comfortable with, she's phenomenal!
This band live is def a gift you all have to give yourselves
I love the way she flawlessly broke down the sound of the band.
Best musical coincidence ever for me. On a cringe bender with friends searching for 'Evanescence', and 'Evan Finds the Third Room' came on next and snapped us back into a realm of good taste and vibes. That was years ago. Have loved them ever since.
Im a huge hardcore fan but Khruangbin is one of the very few chill bands i absolutely adore
Her grooveness is sublime.
Clearly an organic collaboration, they sound authentic and inspired. Not trying to be a pervert but I am captivated & hypnotised by Laura's stage presence, for sure together the group are magic.
I'm going to see them this June 🤍 Leezy is the reason why I started learning electric bass! 🎶
Seeing her onstage, I pictured her having a Romanian accent or something like an exotic baroness. Texas. Huh. I love it.
..that's because of her wig
@@sbee7748 to quote The Blue Rajja from Mystery Men, “well they’re terribly mysterious”
She is too cool for school. What a great story about how they formed their band.
She is actually quite the bass player. Talented in the extreme. The whole band is great.
Laura Lee is the most interesting artist/person and I just want to know more about her. Such a cool story about Tuesday nights etc. Thanks for the video and interview.
LMFAOOOOO the thumbnail being laura lee the youtuber is actually hilarious
I WAS SO CONFUSED
I came across khruangbin from a newspaper story in some packing paper. I read the article, saw their picture, and being a musician, I had to check them out.
Love s first listen. Been a fan ever since. Two years of khruangbin and they are still so fresh.
She is so beautiful and her sound is so unique
Great interview with the amazing and beautiful Laura. Thank you for having her on. I can’t wait to see them this December in St Louis!!!!
I discovered this great band through listening through the Top 100 Spotify new releases each week. I try and get through all 100 as best I can. Their music so clearly stuck out when I first heard it. And I never looked back! All members fit perfectly together musically and that's what makes a great musician.
Thank you algorithm, but 5:42 minutes is a crime!!!! I love this woman. Great to hear another interview with her. Thanks for posting.
We all Love 💕 Laura Lee , we are so fortunate to have her in our lives
Never known music to sound so free. There's no powerful voice dividing the music from the people aka Lead Vocalist ...Bless your style it penetrates like a new sun.
My thanks to J.D. for introducing me to this band...via Facebook! Talk about charisma, OMG, Laura Lee....The band is just surreal...Indeed the Universe is smiling....
Love them
Without forgetting that her band mate, Mark is a hell of a guitarist, fucking hell
So were they divorced? I thought they were a married couple. It sounds like they split.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 i think so
amazing sound, dreamy and soul fulfilling
nice lady. Nothing better than the joy someone exudes when they get to do what they love with people they like to be around.
Great interview!!! Great job!!!! I love her music.
What a cool sounding bass player Laura Lee is , So melodic
Saw them in Santa Cruz a few years back and it was a great show
I think the thumbnail for this video is incorrect.
Yeah...wrong Laura lee 😅
Yeah, wth LOL
Was it a mistake or was it used for click bait?
I was confused when I saw the thumbnail too, and then just discovered they got the wrong Laura Lee. Wow!!!! That is incredible. What a joke of a channel for messing that up. Laura is a queen how dare you haha
it's interesting how she didn't start to play in the band for 3 years - and wow - i'm grateful events fell into place as they did. their sound is so unique and mesmerizing. pretty much my favorite band
keep up the great music Laura! we're digging it!!
I love this person and I love the band!
Literally the. ONLY reason id watch anything to do with fashion. Very cool thank you
I'm a huge Kruangbin fan and a bass player from Houston. lol These guys are just great musicians and people, would love to see and meet them one day.
I adore her band.
Yeah that is not Laura Lee from Khruangbin on thumbnail, this should be corrected
Ikr i noticed that haha i was like umm? 🤔
I contacted the authorities
I though it was the interviewer but its also not the interviewer wth
Wtf
Does she wear a wig? Her hair is so on point. If I were potentially going to be a common face + hair style, it would be nice to leave the wig and live my life with less public recognition. So pumped, I’m seeing them tonight in Atlanta!! Long live Khruangbin. 🔥🔥🔥
I saw them in Houston in May. First concert for me and it was awesome.
Houston!! I just stumbled into this band. Amazing!!
I love Lee and your music! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Brazil love Khruangbin! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Attended your concert in Santa Barbara. Cool music. I will attend your concerts again. Had a great time.
Incredible bassist, creative lines, great sound, unreal bass style.
They call it momentum. Good luck, Khruangbin - I hope it is a long, good ride that all can enjoy.
Go kruangbin, always loved your music, it was even being played in a boutique hotel in India we were staying in ❤️❤️❤️
Love this
Laura Leezy, beautiful, inside and out 💙
She could have said it's "Vibe" music...Nothing specific, you just vibe to it, baby. 😁💯🔥🔥🔥 👍🏾🤜🏾
I’ve been a Hendrix apostle for 40 years…I hear Hendrix tones through Mark’s playing which is a great thing …especially after the fact Jimi died untimely in 1970…his vibrations still swell around the world inspiring players…..Great band, love the vibe ❤
Mark has said he doesn't like being compared to Hendrix though 😂
Great interview!
You guys %99 sound like Turkish psychedelic funk from the 70s and I love it!
been getting in this genre lately. have discovered a few gems, including Selda Bagcan. any more recommendations?
@@thejamnasium6447 Erkin Koray and Baris Manco are worth checking out
Turkish psychedelic funk? Thank you for introducing. God Bless!!!
@@torquetrain8963 Enjoy! :)
Que bien Laura Lee! You guys keep the Funk Psychodelic coming!
Absolutely one of the most underrated, unknown bass player. She is so damn good, her touch is beyond perfect, and her chops are flawless.
I had a friend named Katie who I was showing bass...she would've been amazing if she would've kept playing. Some people are just born to play bass...it lives in them like some sort of warm sweet vibration.
I’ve many times had a burger and a beer at rudyards . ❤
Amazing musician and a person full of charisma
She's awesome!
Found out about this band 2 months ago out of all places……..Pandora, Kings of Leon station. Holy shit I am glad I found them. She is beautiful to go with her bass notes😊
Thanks for the Houston knowledge.
Love them but LOVE her!
She is inspiration!
Laura you have such a kick ass groove!
Wow, I genuinely cannot agree more when she says that the bass just 'fit' for her. I picked up guitar when i was 18. I enjoyed it and liked learning some songs but i always found it kind of frustrating to play. I have big hands and I would get irritated trying to hold down chords and play them cleanly, or how often guitars are in alternate tuning. Skip forward to 2021 and I'm getting really into bass from listening to artists like Roosevelt and Men I Trust. In 2022 I got my first bass and like she said, it just felt comfortable. The instrument suits me so well, and the role it plays in a song / band. I constantly feel the urge and desire to play it and its been about 9 months now and the buzz is still very much alive.
Khruangbin just announced a new tour for 2024. Who's going?
She looks extremely comfortable when she plays bass
I love her
Their sound : swervy funk 💯
Omg.😍😻😍😻😍😻 .
Damn impressive group. WOW.
She still has a great body ,performer, & great musician!
Great band, cool dudes and beautiful lady. Bass and drums are as tight as. Laura is great as fashion icon.
I gotta say Laura is intriguing. Terrific, tasty bass playing.
Right on
Omg did you literally fly in yesterday?! 🤯
did no one realise that the picture used in the thumbnail isn't Khruangbin's Laura Lee, but the infamously controversial CZcamsr Laura Lee???
Why is she infamously controversial?! 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
They fixed it! Lol
Man she’s a great bass player
Vocal fry central!
HOUSTONNN
Why is nobody talking about how this new outlet used the wrong Laura Lee as the thumbnail? 😂
Probably just trolling the fans or sumthin
why is the thumbnail a picture of the beauty influencer Laura Lee?
Why is the thumbnail of the wrong Laura Lee? I feel uncomfortable
Just started listening to her music yesterday. I'm hooked
Love the way she performs on stage ❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹
Always liked the name Mordacai, named my dog that name. He's old and blind now but still full of spirit ❤️
World psych funk is what I call it, cheers.
Mesmerizing psych funk.
I have a serious crush on laura lee... oh my
Leezy is mint.
I like the way you hardly move, but are one of the sexiest dancers in music.
Is this video the whole podcast? Or is so much longer? :(
As a musician, I have a thing for lady bassists and she is in the top 5 or so but I’m not a huge fan of their music overall (not bagging on it, cause…..tastes vary), my issues are around the guitar and I am a guitarist so I’m fine leaving it there, however I have to say the collaborations I’ve heard are absolutely outstanding and these guys are instantly recognizable. And I could listen to her lay down grooves all afternoon.
In the age of Instagram stinkbugs ~
It is sooooo nice to see a real woman with mountains of class* like Laura Lee
Laura Legzy is a goddess
Psych funk lounge yes, but a Soul and RnB revival too.
Woman of my dreams
