I remember first seeing him in the infinity story and immediately being intrigued by the concept of the many angled ones, old Gods, hyporborean age, etc. This was roughly around the same time I was super into eldritch horror and the Lovecraftian mythos so I was blown away that marvel had a bunch of old lore with parallels and influences from his work, I definitely went on a deep dive/binge of research lol.

Given that Marvel feels it nessersary to have an Eternals movie that means there are details nessersary to the larger narrative. Cthon and the others who fled from the Demogorge could easily be recast as the Many-Angled Ones as the origins of that race is unknown in the comics. Giving ShumaGorath the history and personality of Cthon would be far better than just having ShumaGorath as the shallow character he is in the comics.

Shuma-Gorath was always a relatively obscure character to me and I only knew about him through the Marvel vs Capcom fighting game series. I have heard rumours that he is more powerful than Dormamu, Mephisto and Nightmare, and I tend to believe that given earlier iterations of the character. I hope that Marvel finds a Knullesque arc for him where he returns as a legitimate threat.
I like how Shuma Gorath and Dormammu appeared in the marvel vs Capcom series before Dr. Strange did. Like how Blackheart was in those games long before ghost rider.

There's a huge difference between them in that Shuma is meant to be immense and having no interest in humans, so doesn't have any personal investment or interest in Wanda, though. Chthon is a subversion of Lovecraft; a vast cosmic entity like Shuma Gorath does not write an entire chapter of his grimoire about one person. I think Shuma will indeed be the main villain in DS2, while Chthon will be mostly in the shadows and appear in a Scarlet Witch project and also maybe in Blade.
First saw him in Marvel vs Capcom, really enjoyed the character design. This honestly makes the decision to include him in MvC even more confusing, but it's great to finally get an idea as to what the hell he is.
my best guess for why shuma-gorath doesn't really show up anymore is a case of simple powerlevels. a being so absurdly powerful as him, there's only so many people who can actually face off against him and arguably that DOESN'T include Dr.Strange anymore as he's been nerfed over the years. that puts an extreme limit on what can even be done with the character, so his usability in comics goes down accordingly.

Savage Avengers vol 2 with Conan, Magik, Wolverine and Dr. Strange was pretty freaking good. Magik and Conan fight a giant Asgardian Dragon with juggernaut. But King in Black blew it up. I was really looking forward to Doctor Strange and Magik and Conan and fighting this entity along and Kulan Gath

With the all the rumors of the villains that might be in Dr. Strange 2, I have a feeling that Kang's plan is to unleash Shuma Gorath, Nightmare, and maybe even Mephisto to reek havoc on all the phase 4 movies and TV series... culminating into the defeats of those villains leading to a showdow with Kang or the council of Kangs leading to a multi-part battle. Or not...

So its a long shot but my theory of how Shu is gonna get in the mcu is that wanda will go to Dr. Strange and figure out the darkhold. Wanda being curious, finds the bound books that contain Shuee and accidentally release him.
Savage Avengers vol 2 with Conan, Magik, Wolverine and Dr. Strange was pretty freaking good. Magik and Conan fight a giant Asgardian Dragon with juggernaut. But King in Black blew it up. I was really looking forward to Doctor Strange and Magik and Conan and fighting this entity along and Kulan Gath
