In terms of recording in Japan, there is a VST called "Tokyo Scoring Drum Kits". It sounds a bit soft to me. For something with a bit more attack that might be suitable for J-Rock, I like Toontrack's "Fields of Rock" quite a bit. Death & Darkness" sounds like it's made exclusively for death metal, but actually if you turn down the effects, it has a surprisingly good all-around J-Rock sound.
