Magz should be a naval advisor due to his tactics and ruthless efficiency.
“This was not your mission objective… alright so we just took out some civilian tonnage”. Ah yes very efficient. 😂
Idk why but I've become addicted to these videos
escaping was a good move
Just came across your channel, watch one of your missions in the USS Farr Canal, very entertaining mate.
There were more escorts Magz. You just sank them in the prior two engagements.
Love this night time action.
You should've went to PD and watched the explosion @ 10:36 thru the periscope lol
Watched and 👍 Liked
Did you ever play Jane's 688(I)? It was one of the first full sub simulators back in the 90's back when EA was a respectable company and they were putting out games people wanted to play, and they did it up until they announced Jane's A-10 which they canceled saying that no one wanted to play sims anymore. What they were really saying was, "Sims aren't making us the money we want." It was around that time they became the shit company they are today.
I remember that game. First and only military sim that I played.
If you go back that far did you play "688 Attack Sub?" (16 bit Sega Genesis)
Yep, I played a couple of the Jane's titles including 688(I), ALso played most if not all of the Microprose sims back int he same era along with others.
I think I still have the origional disc's for most of them in boxes, I'm a bit of a horder so I have origional discs in my collection going all the way back to the early 90's
@@MagzGTV It's not hoarding, it's collecting. Just because you collected them when they first came out doesn't make it hoarding. :P
@14:18 -- How did you know that SS wouldn't hear the transient?
This is where I'm having issues -- with the long-range shots, instead, opting to get to the rear which sometimes can be a pain if the target captain is "jumpy."
I do understand Foxtrot has rudimentary sonar at best, but even for say a Sierra, or Akula -- how are you determining your stand-off distances. -- Thanks.
afaik, you can hide to some degree the launch transient by launching torpedoes from tubes on the opposite direction of the enemy. If the enemy is to the left, you shoot from tubes on the right side.
to be a bit clearer, if the sound is modeled as good as it seems, the sub's body should block the sound coming out of the torpedo tube.
@@Darktotaled Aye, sir. Wilco and thank you. Sounds like a good procedure to incorporate as SOP.
in addition to shielding the launch uising your own submarine as Eduardo said, there is also a bit of experence at play here. Knowing the detection capabilities of the target sub and knowing the ambient noise level in the water you can work out roughly how close the enemy need to be to be able to hear a launch.
@@MagzGTV I really appreciate your time, advice, and content. Thank you.
👍👍
Why not use your torps on warships, which can defend against missles, and save the missles for the transports, which can't?
Basic math.
I have three torps, the enemy has four warship escorts, all the escorts have the ability to shoot down missiles.
I dont have enough torpedos to sink them all and they are all close enough to the mission targets to be able to intercept any missiles launched at them. If I fire my 3 torps at three warships there is a chance that the final warship shoots down my incoming missiles, they only need to hit two of the three missiles to not only leave me unable to complete the mission, but also to leave me unarmed with the enemy warship knowing my exact location due to the missile launches.
Or I can fire 2 torps, kill the two transports undetected compleating my mission and then leave.
@@MagzGTV That makes sense. So now I know. I completely missed that you'd want to keep one in the chamber.
Can you do a Soviet cold waters dot mod campaign?
Is it me, or did Sierra 3 in the first engagement have a Vietnamese flag on her stern when the missile hit her?
That's what I saw.
Woud it not be easier to use ecm or radar to identify ships from a distance from you ?
Radar tells the enemy your exact location, ECM only gives you information on hostiles that are emmiting themselves and does so at the risk of the ECM mast being detected. This is also why I rarely use periscope, Periscops can be detected via radar as easily as anything else.
Any time you stick anything above the surface you have a pretty high chance of having just given the enemy the exact location they need to fire their torpedos at.
Does the towed array allow you to see behind your sub?
From my understanding no, but I am happy to be corrected. That is why the Subs have to change direction fairly regularly to get the signal from the rear.
Yes, The towed array is a long cable studded with microphones that trails out behind the submarine placing the array away from both the noise of the subs internals and far enough away from the screw to allow for better detection. It does see better to the sides than to the rear simply due to coverage but in general it can track anything in the rear arc of the Submarine.
@@MagzGTV I have (many times) exploited the baffles of Victor III's even with their towed sonar array.
They have a shadow zone as well.
@@Tamburello_1994Sure, Victor III's where the first Russian sub to get a towed array, like most soviet sensor systems of the time they where garbage compared to what western forces had as they essentially tried to copy what they had only seen photos of at most, this low quality in the arrays is reflected in game.
1980's Sierra class variants were the first Soviet Submarines to get an array as good as something like what Grayling has. Keep in mind Grayling was launched in the late 60's which should tell you how far the Soviets where behind.
@@MagzGTV TB-16 is decent, but I come from the (I)mproved side of things, and go to war with the 23 at minimum.
That said, even when tooling around in my early 688, I do see "0" in my towed window when facing full on a sonar target. I'm assuming that's my shadow zone being the sub is directly in front. Probably not as severe as Vic-3, but still there.
