  • We take the 2020 Chevy 2500 with the 6.6 V8 gas engine to the foothills for a brief review. Then we compared it to a 2017 GMC to see how the exteriors are different as far as bed size, cab size, and overall length.

      @EngineAdventures  Před 4 lety +9

      I didn't like the first pictures of the truck when it was released, but when I see them in person they certainly aren't as bad as they appear in photos. The hood is high, which makes maneuvering in tight spaces a pain. After driving the truck for a week you start to get a feel for where the front end actually is, but it's not as easy as the Ram.

    • @TomJonesGearGuy
      @TomJonesGearGuy Před 4 lety +3

      I just got one and when the pics of it first started coming out many people had their questions about the front but I liked it and I have been surprised how many people have come up to me to say how good looking the truck is. One thing not mentioned and it is what I hate about this truck, storage in the front of the cab. It has two glove boxes the bottom is good but the top one pretty much a waste it is so shallow should have just left it out. No storage in the jump set in the front, you have to upgrade to get it. So I tend to run them till they are dead. Traded in a 2001 2500HD with 315,000 miles on it. It was still running but trans and transfer were both leaking bad and just could not put the money into it anymore. What was nice was you had the little cubby space behind the rearview mirror, it had an ashtray that worked great for change, business cards and other little stuff and you had storage at the middle seat front. Losing all that hurt. Other than that I like it a lot, a solid truck.

    I'm wondering how long until the aftermarket gives us a built-to-fit electric fan kit. Seems like it would clear up A LOT of space under there, give a few extra HP, etc...

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm not sure what the current state of electric fans are, but in the past an engine driven fan provided more cooling more efficiently than electric. Electric fans require transferring engine power to the alternator, which charges the battery, which then runs an electric motor which turns the fan. Engine driven fans are direct to the fan. This is especially good for heavy haulers who will be needing constant cooling rather than intermittent.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  Před 4 lety +1

      They were Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner ATs. My testing is designed to test how the vehicles transfer power side to side and back to front, tires are irrelevant for what I'm going for. Yes better tires would make a difference in most of my tests, but they wont overcome a bad traction system. Overall the G80 does quite well, you just have to know how to work it. Chevy has one of the weakest brake limited slips on the market, which is good in a lot of scenarios but not good in others. Thanks for watching!

I trust the GM 6 speed for longevity more than I do the Ram's 8 speed. As far as the engines go it's hard to say between the two, the Chevy might be a little better, but the Ford 7.3 was the best of the 3. I didn't like the 10 speed as much as the 8 speed though.

      I thought so too, but when I ran the math it would take over 450k miles with the gas engine averaging 15 mpg and the diesel averaging 19 mpg and using mid grade gas and highway diesel based on current average prices in the US. There are definitely situations where a diesel makes more sense, but for most people it doesn't. If you add in resale values, yes diesel will get you more money back than the gas but not the original up front cost, and maintenance is typically more on a diesel. It's not as straight forward as it seems, as there are cases for both. Also, most people don't buy the most practical vehicle, they buy the one they want. It's hard to turn down 900+ ft-lbs of torque.

    • @TomJonesGearGuy
      @TomJonesGearGuy Před 4 lety +4

      You do get the torque from the diesel but I look at my truck as 36 gal gas backup too. My back up cookstove can burn unleaded and my generator burns unleaded. When you go almost half the year in hurricane season you plan for the worst. Plus I have always run gas, can fix gas and no diesel stuff to deal with.

      $10K premium for the diesel. Then you have the more expensive maintenance, the DEF, and much more expensive repairs when things go bad. Around here, diesel fuel carries a $1 premium/gal over regular unleaded. Add it all up and that's a HUGE price difference over the life of the truck. For what, a little better gas mileage and tow the trailer up the hill a couple minutes faster at lower revs?

      We drove to Vegas and back in a 2017 crew cab long bed GMC 3500 with the 6.6 diesel and averaged 17 mpg for the trip. Speed limits are 80 for most of the freeway portions and we had the cruise set to at least 83 if not more for most of the trip. That was round trip MPG and about 800 total miles. Only stopped for fuel once. We've seen just over 20 mpg on short trips at lower speeds, but it's hard to get exact mileage on those shorter ones because there is limited data and we typically don't top off before and after a short trip.

      I bought the Denali 2500 Duramax last week, took a 220 mile trip and best mpg was 23.2 on freeway at 77mph. Over all avg with some stop and go for that trip was 19.4. Not bad for a brand new truck.

      @@chadhaire1711 Just because you cant afford one doesnt mean you have to be-little people who can. I think actual owners would know more than you buddy. You have your own youtube channel and want people to subscribe and you respond to others comments like this?? Kinda tells us somethin about ya.

    The 4x4 system sucks ass! My truck is 15 yrs old a 3/4 ton 4 door with 4x4 with a gas engine and does better off road. Wow eye watering.
