- Francis Buckley. Grammy winning Audio Engineer. All round great guy. Project studio fairy godmother?
In Studio Rescue we join Francis as he visits a range of home studios and combines the fundamentals of acoustic science with a few hard-earned industry secrets to get the most out of the available space.
Steve Hernandez is having low end problems in his super micro studio - no surprise there! Luckily Francis drops in to help him make the most of the space.

The sound effects on these videos never fail to make me laugh.
The audio alone makes me laugh. For being about quality sound the audio is for shit.
So basically if you get chosen in this "Rescue", youre gonna:
1) Get your room cleaned and furniture moved.
2) Get free panels and get a free microphone :)
Thats it.
+Bardan Sitaula Sign me up!
me too
This guy had an amazing setup, and one of my favorite under $500 mics. what more could he have needed? lol
It’s the little things that count lol
😂😂😂
For all the ppl making jokes, the proper placement of your equipment is essential for getting a good quality mix, the distance between the monitors and you make a very crucial difference. And having a room that looks like crap just kills the mood and creativity aspect of sound recording. It may look like he's just cleaning and installing sound-proofing, but he is actually improving sound quality by 50 - 75 %. When it comes to this music game, every little improvement really counts.
How is this studio rescue??
How about "Old man cleans my room"
How To make People feel their setup is worthless, and need To buy new stuff...
you are a pice of shit man.
Pepe Cachondo lol, someone struck a nerve a bit???
Pepe Cachondo lol
sub to me guys
Man this is worth gold for a real producer stop being so negitive
This "treatment" is pointless, it does more harm than good.
@@jrealm5464 How does free stuff and help from a pro hurt anyone
In every episode, my jaw still drops when Francis brings in their new Rode Microphone! lol
With the hardwood floor in the room I surprised you didn't put a difuser and some acoustic panels on the ceiling...
this is the worst. ive watched 10 episodes and everyone says the same thing. im having problems with the bottom end and stuff. francis: dont worry ill help you clean your room, hang some pads on the wall and BAM!!! here is your mic, stand and shield.
At least you get a free mic man :D
What's with the wagging finger?
"having problems with low end" *has 3-5 inch monitors"
He's hardly going to build them a new room
well, at least hes giving out the knowledge and do it simple. I enjoy it somehow
thank you for all your video's !!!
You can tell this was real grateful good luck to his music!
1:54 do you hear that
WyattBain lol
🤣🤣🤣
Angel of Death lmao!
Best show ever
Greetings my people, how are you? I would like to know how I apply for a rescue, I am from the Dominican Republic
Francis, you`re doing a great job with what little but quality stuff you put your hands on.
Showing the rest of us viewers it`s quite possible making changes when arming yourself and going at it (to work).
Comfortably easy both to watch and catch up what`s beeing done, how and why.
Really simple but good quality-vice at all the chosen stages to be needed by the viewer and like Francis, not forgetting all the potensial students out there..
Great and super-sweet captivity of the overall simple but most important things in a studio for a starter-up/new-beginner as well as a pro soundman. All here in these videos to be seen and learned is needed for any person working with sound at any level.
I wish I had seen something like this earlier on when I started making music in my home.
Why do we never hear if the clients think the rooms sound better when its done? It always ends with the Rode mic plug.
The only guy of 10 episodes who appreciates the mic! WOW! Go Francis!!!
With those crappy speakers you could give that guy a real vintage U87 and it would still sound like crap.
The dude had some good beats.
Awesome!
that mirror behind causes a lot of reflections even with a soundproof gear.
When is going to premiere? I am really looking forward to it! :) I love your studio
Hi Niko, with a home studio vocal booth, the idea is to tame all unwanted reflections as much as possible, enabling you to record a clean dry vocal sound that can be livened up with some reverb in post if necessary. You will want to use studio foam to deaden the walls, rather than reflective material. Do this gradually, with a few panels at a time until you are happy with the results. As always, use your ears rather than your eyes - once the room sounds right, you can stop adding acoustic panels
Please come to the UK I am in dyer need for some studio rescue!!
Muchos de estos muchachos son latinso, muy bien!!!! la raza
Great Show , You need to come to New york .
this looks really nice hopefully my studio could look nice like this
this is realy tuff to make this room accurate but, this is very interesting for all people that don't have enough space.
0:58 you might need more than rearranging your studio to get better mixes
Condenser mics are so sensitive though why would you use it for drums?? they'll get damaged
It almost seemed as if he was expecting that mic to be brought in. LOL
LOOOL
what is the velcro tape to ang on the basstraps to the wall? thank you
Is it okay to have Bass traps on just one side? Doesn't it mess up with the balance?
@Krilldubstep Sure but not in a tiny room like this! Definitely should have them inside with the monitors as far apart as they'll go
Hey I need a studio rescue ASAP😩😩😩😩😩
You can do that without any problems, but you might wanna use speaker pads like in this project to avoid vibration. Just try it and hear if you have significant differences in the sound.
I agree with Michael. It's a great concept, but it needs some development. All scenarios are identical ("problems with the low end") and so are the solutions. I'd like to see more depth in the unique situation and a variety of issues. For example, in this episode I wanted to hear about the problems of putting speakers sideways. Also more background into the physics and how they apply specifically in each situation. Keep them coming! :)
Dafuq dude, why so many speakers?!
Colox I'm a year late but it's so he can reference his mixes on different speakers
Hi Francis! I'm Ed, from the Philippines. Anyway, just one question! Is it really okay to set your studio monitors horizontally? I mean, like letting them lay on their sides, just like what you did here? Thanks!
Yes, these Vicoustic bass traps are currently available in Canada. If you're looking for something nicer, there's the WaveWood panels that can be used as a bass trap.
2:51 -> dont forget to place the bid man!!
i need my studio rescued!
Can someone tell me how to set up my room when the room isn't symmetrical? I have a closet on an exterior wall, so it sticks out and makes my room shaped kind of like the state of Utah.
wow, i have a huge room i'd love to have francis help me!
hey man i live in australia just wondering if you do this over here in australia being watching all the videos and i need help with my lil setup i don't have much cause i am so under budgeted at the moment but any help would be so good
@3:37 "man i wish i could get my car washed this quickly" lmfao what!?!?!
"that horrible old stuff" was the competition, Auralex bass traps
Does somebody knows what kind of velcro is he using to fix the foam in the wall?
Hello, If I set up a completely close vocal booth (7ftx4ft) should I put reflective material on all the walls? (sorry for mistakes i'm french)
thanks!
Frequency range and true stereo fidelity. It's just... important lol. :)
I don't get it. If you put speakers on its side, you'll just degrade its stereo image. How to do a good mix with perceived tones. Those speakers are designed to be placed horizontally
i noticed in this video you turned the monitors on to the side ..... now is that just according to the type of monitor or is this okay to do with all monitors i have the m audio bx8 d2's and says in the manual not to place on the side ....1can this ruin my monitors? ....2. will i still be able to get in the sweet spot this way?
Hi Francis! are you guys still doing these shows?
Yea it would be really cool if he got some big sponsors who had resources to tear down the walls, buy better monitors in some cases, soundproof everything. Get in some mood lighting and stuff.. And did different things depending on the person and music style preferences.
They used an arpeggio from nexus in the beginning song
What's The Music At @3:20 ?? I mean "Title"
NEXUS DETECTED
Where did you get those side panels?
He might want to look in to portable room baffles for the window or the mirror. Auralex makes one called the ProMAX. And Vicoustic makes one called the Flexi Wall.
What material are the bass traps and panels?
impossible to stick a velcro panel on a mirror? erm ok
AceMyHigh IKR. would be easy even to just hang an acoustic blanket in front of it.
+BuddyJesusSmokes my thought exactly.
It's a slide across
Little things make a Big difference. Great job once again Guys
These guys in the small rooms need proper diffusion and bass traps more than anything, a better place to start at the first bounce would be the ceiling rather than the walls i would think aswell.
Where can I buy those panels.
These episodes will always be gems !!!
how to contact studio rescue I tried the link above and it took me to RODE microphone website its ridiculous
Thanks Francis Buckley! This has inspired me to move around my extremely small spaced room to make the most of it! I have came up with a draft plan it it looks good because it will save a lot of room! Thanks again!
You can put acoustic panels on the mirror with dubbelside sticktape.
whats the track being played while they are cleaning...???
Yea its vicoustics!
so he does the same thing ever episode
Which also concludes it's just a formula, which is a good thing right?
+deathmast403 this is actually the only episode where he discreetly shows his politic views (6:32)
+Petteri Oksanen HAHAHAA!!
@@Fr4gg3r2 hahahahaha man :D
what monitors are that?
Can you come to memphis also???
Are these bass trap from vicoustic can be buy in Canada?
Stick a panel to the mirror, so what.
music comes first. totally agree
that doenst help.. IDIOT
I got to thinking about this earlier but lost the vid. Hang a blanket in front of the mirror. problem solved and the precious mirror won't be harmed.
10Cicegim if it doesn't help to remove the primary reflection then why did he do it on every vid in this series? You are the idiot.
wouldn't placing the speakers in a shelf like that color the sound?
Francis is the Xzibit of acoustics.
2:50 You cheeky bugger you made me go check my eBay! Didn't see any alerts. Wondered what the hell was going on. And 1:55 I thought I heard someone being murdered across the street! Besides the funny SFX you give some good advice and I've picked up some good tips.
I'm wondering tho why you didn't place his desk against his "booth" wall seeing he had no easy place to hang foam against the mirror doors and the window. Yes that yellow foam would still be coming down for sure. Opinions anyone? Not on the yellow foam! On the idea of the placement of the desk.
Oh shit! Come to me!
aaahhh.. qual a possibilidade de ter uma ajuda dessa aqui no Brasil??? preciso disso URGENTE... URGENTE...
I thought speakers could not be put sideways?
what's wrong with the Auralex bass traps..those work just fine...don't they?
Thats me! =)
How do I get on the show
Hey, that's cool man.
I'll be the one to say the speakers in the opening part of the video are not in the "triangle." Even at our perspective, this guy would not have a show if it weren't for certain manufacturers needing recognition and his fellow coworkers needing something to do on the weekends-like being musicians in need. These videos are not for the failed studio musician being rescued, these videos are for the studio-ignorant(no offense), and promotion. Great job Frank!
i wonder how much does it coast ?
I have the same midi controller!
Do they have Nike SB Combo Feets for sale?
Whats even worse....cant even seem to find the Vicoustics stuff in the USA, at least for the Flexi Screen Lite. UK only from my initial searches...
@FullFledged2010
You actually shouldn't. Usually the dip in off-axis response, because of driver alignment and over-lapping frequencies at the x-over, is on the "down side", if you imagine the speakers are vertical and you're listening from below the on-axis level. The way the speakers are set up here it's clear that he's listening on the "upside" of the tweeters which usually is the flattest off-axis response. On well-designed speakers this is less of an issue anyways.
these videos are based around selling the rodes mic i take it?>
always a pleasure to see how things come together
WHat happened to that other set of monitors he had??
wat kind of mic stand is that
wow i would like to get my studio saved. lol i need honest help. i dont know if my setup is alright
Hey i like the background music sampled from boogie boys ..Run it.
Is the mic really that good?
because you cant mix well in regular computer speakers and also headphones may go too low for the final mix...
how thich are those panels?
Can you come to germany too?! =D
the website isnt working i need my studio Rescued plz help
