  • We've made some big mistakes with our vineyard. Probably the biggest mistake of all was during our first year and how we installed our irrigation system.
    Dirty Vineyard is a "How to" CZcams Channel that shows everything from making a trellis to bottling your own wine. We never thought about owning a vineyard, it just happened. This channel is a lot of “how to” videos like; How to build a vineyard, how to build a grape trellis, how to choose grape varietals, and even how to use a posthole digger. We’ll try to post a new video every week. Hope you subscribe and enjoy.

    Cool, Alvarinho and Arinto, two Portuguese varieties! I only have red grapes: Touriga Nacional, Touringa Franca and Tinta Barroca. Red wine is easier to do without fancy equipment or chemicals.

      Very nice! We chose Alvarinho and Arinto because we are on the same longitude as Portugal with very similar soil. We only have Graciano and Souzou for red blending. Best of luck for harvest this season Paulo! Cheers!

    Quick question. How often should you water your vines? I have read every 3 days to every week. In weather over 90 degrees should you water more often?

    • @DirtyVineyard
      @DirtyVineyard  Před 4 lety +1

      When it gets dry and hot, we water each vine twice a week (2 gallons) Some will tell you more, some less. Some think wines should struggle with less water. We think that we would rather keep healthy vines. Cheers Jesse!

    Where did you get the pigtails. I've been looking all over for them

    I need that watering system for my vegetables, but I am a cheap ....unless it's a new baitcasting reel. Then I am not cheap according to my wife. Your vineyard looks better in every video. What year are you into this adventure with wine?

      We are starting into year 6 Joe. Watering system stuff is relatively cheap what with 14 gauge wire, cheap hose, and stuff. Fishing on the other hand is serious business! Cheers!

    Where can you buy those pigtails to hold the hose to the wire?

    Maybe I've missed it, but how many acres of grapes do you have? And how about Hooty for the owl name?

    How are you feeding these water hoses from the storage tanks? Another pump to a manifold that splits and branches out?

    • @DirtyVineyard
      @DirtyVineyard  Před 4 lety +1

      Pure gravity. I thought for sure I would have to add an inline pump, but water is super-heavy (8.5 lbs./gallon). When it came down the hose the flow was like a firehose! Cheers Ryan!

      @@DirtyVineyard cool. I figure you have some setup with a bunch of valves and splitters. Keep it simple stupid.

    My hillside of vines is littered with those gopher holes so I need to do something, quick. Do you know where I can get those gopher gassers?
    Also... Im currently watering my vines with a garden hose just enough so they dont look tired... not sure how much they really need. Are there any watering rules such as 3 gallons a week?
    THANK YOU!

      Gopher Gassers are at any Ace Hardware store. I would also look into something called a Gopher Hawk. As far as watering goes, that's seasonal for us as we feed the grapes less and less water the closer we get to harvest. For instance, 2 gallons per vine a week late in the season. Cheers Mr. A!

      @@DirtyVineyard I recently picked up "The Organic Backyard Vineyard" which has a ton of info and I think it goes into watering so hope to get some time to read through it soon. Thanks for all your helpful videos!
