ფრაგმენტი გია ყანჩელის 80 წლის იუბილისადმი მიძღვნილი კონცერტიდან - „ჩვენი ყანჩელი“ (From Giya Kancheli’s 80th Anniversary Concert).
გია ყანჩელი "სტიქსთან" დაკავშირებით: „ტექსტში შეერწყა მარადიული ღირებულებები და პირადული მოგონებები გარდაცვლილ ახლობლებზე, რომლებთანაც სულიერი კავშირი უფრო და უფრო ღრმავდება. ახლა ჩემთვის ძნელია გამოვყო, გრძნობები მკარნახობდნენ თავისებურ ტექსტურ დრამატურგიას, თუ იგი წარმოიქმნა უნებურად. თუმცა Styx-ის ბოლოში... შექსპირის მხატვრულად სრულყოფილი ტექსტია, რომელიც ყველა ბლოკს აერთიანებს აზრობრივად“ (Зейфас Н. “In Greek mythology, it is the River Styx that must be crossed when voyaging from the land of the living to Hades, land of the dead. In Georgian composer Giya Kancheli's work of the same name, the solo viola acts as metaphorical Charon, ferrying what belongs to the present toward what belongs to the past, to memory. It "mediates" between the dead and the living, and it also acts as a go-between for the orchestra and the chorus. The text, chosen more for sound than for meaning, includes the names of Georgian monasteries and churches, and also the names of composers Alfred Schnittke and Avet Terterian, who passed away in the 1990s. As is often the case with Kancheli, the music is predominantly slow and quiet, not really Minimalistic, but at the same time, frugally written, so even small nuances can have a huge impact. At times, however, music of great austerity and purity is shattered by painful, pounding discords. If Kancheli's work were less sincere or more "pop", it might seem kitschy, but Kancheli is nothing if not sincere. He expresses emotions with an honesty - and a strength - that would embarrass many contemporary composers. As Styx represents the interface between life and death, or the portal into memory, Kancheli's music as a whole represents the not easily defined border between faith and disillusionment.”

თავისთავად კომპოზიცია ხომ გენიალურია, მაგრამ ბატონმა ნიკოლოზ რაჭველმა სულ სხვა დონის მუსიკად აქცია, რა თქმა უნდა ბატონ გიორგისთან და ორკესტრთან ერთად. რამდენიმე ვერსია მოვისმინე, მათ შორის ბატონი ჯანსუღ კახიძის დირიჟორობით, მაგრამ ეს უბრალოდ ერთი თავით აღემატება ყველას და ყველაფერს! ბრავო!

არამიწიერი შეგრძნება ....სულის ამაღლება მიწიერიდან გამიჯნვა და ზეციერის უსაზღვროებაში სულის განფენილობა
If it weren't for the soloist, it would be just awful performance. Soloist gives it last glimmer of hope. Mr. Conductor has handicapped Kancheli's masterpiece. From the very beginning there was no consistency. Solutions for tempo were absurdous. Conductor did perform ritardando where it were completely unjustified, didn't gave any acclelerando, where it was needed. Final sequence played march-like, with wooden, metronomy, almost angular rhythm, just opposite to what is written in the sheet,. In culmination no much needed rubato whatsoever... This is an excelent example of misuse of freedom given to conductor. I have the sheet before my eyes all the time I waisted listening to this performance. It is shocking how it is dissenting form the score, how conductor is reading author's clues in opposite way. At the end you can see Mr. Kancheli's face, he looks mortified. I do belive he shooke hands with conductor only because of amiableness... it was his 80th birthday, he wouldn't like a scandal. But he wrote it. He knew, this conductors ideas were questionable. I pity the soloist and orchestra. They are innocent...
