What a brilliant collaboration! Where do you come up with these ideas?
This was just an amazing collaboration with my favorite AMD. I’m just coming from The Car Care Nut channel and subscribing to yours, Jeff!
Also I want to mention that you are a great listener and have a reliable and calming demeanor. I’ll start watching all your videos now. Thanks 🙏.
@@michaelscottland4239 wow thanks!! Super nice of you to say :) I have really enjoyed working with AMD on both our videos and I’m glad you want to follow my channel too :)
Very informative video. Thank you so much for this collaboration. You're the best!
I am in the market for a car. I came across a 2020 Lexus LC500H and fell in love with it. I am a little nervous about purchasing this car since it will be my first hybrid. What are your thoughts / recommendations? Thank you so much.
If you have 300k miles on your car and need to replace your hybrid battery, the chances of your car lasting another 15 years and another 300k miles are slim to none. So paying to replace the hybrid battery might not be worth it. So basically the car needs to be retired after the hybrid battery goes dead.
BUT....if the hybrid battery goes dead, can you still drive it? Will you get the same mpg as that same car in a non hybrid version from that point on??
Thank you for having me Jeff!
You did such a great job but I’m not surprised
:D

AMD is no longer working for Toyota. He has his own shop now. Good for him. Good job Jeff and AMD!
Absolutely love AMD and learn a lot from him every time I listen to his videos. I'm very thankful for people like Jeff and AMD sharing Toyota content.
He is the honest guy on youtube.
Jeff and I we used to worked together, I remember talking to him on how to bring his channel to 5000 subs and look at him now. Congrats Jeff.
I've got my 2008 Prius with 233k miles on the original battery. Still gets almost 50 MPG 13 years later. No issues yet 🤞
2nd Gen Prius: carry a spare inverter water pump in the trunk. That part protects the $4,000 inverter. Awesome little car.
@@ferndog1461 you aren't kidding. Thankfully my leaking inverter pump was replaced under a recall 😄
Jesus Christ. That’s insane!
9 out of 10 drug dealers in london drive them and i bet its not to save the eco system
Channel with no content,fake stories
AMD is the best and honest mechanic in the USA , I love to watch his channel
When someone is honest and makes sense subscribers just happen.
Totally agree with you
Hey Jeff, you and AMD are my two favorite sources, never thought I would see you both together, hope it happens again!
I purchased a 2021 highlander hybrid platinum...my first hybrid and second highlander, and I love it. I watched The Car Care Nut videos and learned so much about how they work, why they are so great, how to take care of them, etc. His way of explaining and helping me understand the system was so much appreciated (and needed). Jeff, I watched your videos about the highlander hybrid vehicle, what it offers, how to work all the buttons, etc. was extremely helpful. Thank you!!!!!!!
AMD is so knowledgeable and also a nice person.
Hi Jeff and Ahmed. Two smart guys. I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid I bought in auction, the battery died because it sat in auction lot for 7 months not running, it had 211000 when I bought it for $2000. Replaced the battery with an after market one that had new cells and unlimited miles warranty for $2350 installed. 2 years later and it's still going strong. One thing we have to remember, the car may have 200,000 miles but the gasoline engine really doesn't have that many miles. The gasoline engine runs between 50-60% of the time and less if it's a city car. So the wear on it is much less than a comparable gasoline engine only car.
My thoughts exactly on how little the gasoline engine has to work in a hybrid & should last a VERY long time.
I've had 2 hybrids.... a 2018 Honda Insight and then traded it for a new 2020 Rav4 XSE hybrid. Both are incredible hybrids!
where u get the replacement battery from? friend needs one for silverado thx
Wow, great co-op guys! I’m a big fan of the Car Care Nut Chanel!
He’s so good!!
My two favorite Toyata Resources together...what a gift
I'm sitting in a Toyota dealership right now. My hybrid Highlander Hybrid check light came on. Waiting for the diagnosis.
$ P080. $8000. Battery replacement. Cell 14 2v below others. Welcome to California.
They did a good job diagnosing, Quick, for that I thank them. .
Sheesh.Did you get it replaced?
Too much money on battery, I think it's not worth having a hybrid if what you saved will be spent on battery replacement .
MY TWO FAVORITE GUYS!!!!! Jeff help me choose what type 2019 Prius. Then AMD educating me on how to maintain, remedy, repair these days!! I thank God for BOTH OF U!!! 🎄🎅
So great to see the two best, and most knowledgeable, Toyota people working together! As a retired Toyota dealer my hat is off to both of you! 👍
I got a 2015 prius with 100k miles on it and so far so good. No issues whatsoever including the battery.
When two of your favorite car channels do a collaboration, especially car nut, I'm a toyota man with a 2013 prius c and have become a great DIY mechanic cuz of you and Jeff is helping me decide on my next toyota. You guys provide awesome value. I thank you both
I bought a 2001 Prius and loved it, never had a problem
My 2nd Prius was a 2008 with 245,000 miles on it. ZERO problems, sold it with 265,000 miles on it
I am not afraid of buying one with over 200,000 miles on it !
My buddy who has a Prius independant shop told me major components are very available and cheap because there are a lot of wrecked Prius out there with good accessories and other Prius parts including engines and transmissions
My only complaint is that it's not good to sit idling for hours and hours in a Prius
The other thing is that it's not good to park a Prius for over 4 months, both batteries will discharge seriously
I have a 2007 highlander hybrid with 280k miles on it and still killing it. Original hybrid battery
It's so great to see you both together on this collab! I'm glad that I was able to connect both of you - I think it's time for all of us to get together for the collab of the year!
David, I think that is a great idea.

@@kimdavis5631 Thank you!
Thank you both. As much as I love to watch and learn from each of you individually, you’re even better as a team!
So great the two of you collaborated on this video. I found you both while looking to learn about my RAV4 Prime SE before I took delivery since I knew the dealer would know nothing about the Prime functions. I even sent some of AMDs videos to my dad regarding his Prius Prime. Thank you both for your videos & keep them coming.
Great to see my two favorite Toyota creators doing a collab!
Understanding the dialog. The battery in reference in the video here is a large battery that makes a car be a hybrid. The name for this battery is the, Traction battery.
Traction battery.
"Traction" battery, because it supplies power to an electric motor that assists in turning the drive wheels of a hybrid car. All of the hybrid components together create what's known as the, Hybrid Drive System. As well, the hybrid drive system can also power the car at low speeds without use of the gas engine. This is for a regular hybrid car. Not to be confused with a plug-in hybrid which has the ability to power the car at all speeds.
12 Volt Battery.
There is another battery referred to as the, 12 Volt Battery. This is a secondary battery that does not assist with traction.
It's also known as being the control, or house, battery. This is a small version of a regular car battery that powers things like the radio, windshield wipers, HVAC blower, power windows, interior lighting and cruise control. As well, this battery powers the computer that sends signals for the traction battery to wake up and for the gas engine to come online.
This battery is an AGM design, so it does not require any maintenance, and will last about five years. A replacement is sold at a nominal cost.
Battery Longevity.
One thing that's true for all batteries whether they be in a flashlight or the traction battery in a hybrid car is that temperature extremes will degrade them. Degrade not only in the amount of charge that they will hold but degrade by shortening their useful life. Batteries do best in use and in storage at a temperature of 60F degrees. It's actually 59 point something but 60F is close enough. While you can't change the outdoor temperature, you might be able to control the temperature where your car is parked when not in use. An example is, that we live in the New England region of the United States, so cold winters. I had our garage insulated and heated for when I want to work out there, but upon learning about batteries several years back, I decided that our 2013 Toyota Prius C would do better and last longer if we kept the garage heat set at 60F from late Fall, through the Winter, and into the early Springtime. Summers haven't been much of a problem as being insulated the interior of the garage remains acceptably cool.
Hybrid Cooling Fan and Filter
The battery cooling fan and filter are for the traction battery. Again, the temperature of the battery and its importance.
Locate information for the cooling fan, its filter and care in the Owner's manual. As in the video here improper cooling of the traction battery will shorten its life.
Your car may notify you with a battery overheating message in the gauge panel. I know that Toyota's will do this as described in the owner's manual for my 2013 Toyota Prius C. Traction battery overheating is something that all hybrid owners should have a basic understanding of as outlined in your owner's manual for your particular hybrid car.
The perfect collaboration. Great video. Very informative.
Thank you Jeff and AMD! Love the collaboration.
I'm glad to see 2 of my favorite guys on toyota content doing videos together, also a subscriber of both of them, thank you guys.
I have a 14 Prius with 324k miles still running strong. No issues with the battery at all.

Jeff indirectly sold me the hybrid and AMD has taught me how to properly care for it along with do's and don'ts. What a team!.
great interview. 😎
Love the contents of this channel.
In Singapore, I changed the hybrid battery for the 2010 Toyota Camry hybrid (2.4L) for SGD 5,600. That was about 6 years ago.
AMD is awesome! Very honest and knowledgeable. Can someone tell me what Toyota does with the old batteries? Can they be recycled?
I didn't know about ToyotaJeffReviews until today. Here is the thing, if Car Care Nut is friends with anyone, i am a fan of that person. I just subscribed.

It’s really nice to see both of you together. Jeff can you please make a detailed review of 2022 rav4 xse as I would like to buy one next year
For the past year I've been watching car review/information videos. AMD,Jeff and Scotty convinced me to order my first Toyota. It's a Rav4 hybrid. 3 to 6 months before it arrives at my dealer.
Wow that is really cool. And you have good consultants helping you ha ha. Let me know when it comes in
Great interview & information. I follow his channel as well. 👍
I remember when I bought my first hybrid a few years ago which was a 2013 Prius V. That car had nearly 140,000 miles on it without a single issue. I traded up for a 2018 RAV4 Hybrid and I absolutely love it and even now in the cold weather that we get in New England, I'm averaging 34-40 MPG after each fill up. I'd imagine when the weather warms up come Spring, I'll be in the low to mid 40s for MPG. The most common comment people would throw at me is the cost of replacing the hybrid battery when it fails. The argument that I've always countered with was; well what's the cost of replacing the transmission? You're looking at roughly around the same cost of replacing the hybrid battery. And with the ECVT, the failure rate of them is rare because it obviously doesn't operate like a normal transmission. I've been saying this for years every time someone throws at me the cost of replacing the hybrid battery. Which is amazing that people still think this way when hybrids now have been out for over 20 years and how much the cost of replacing the hybrid battery has gone down compared to the cost of replacing a transmission.
What gasoline are you using? I have a 2016 Rav Hybrid Ltd and I'm getting 26 mph. Was 31 mph for a while! A lot of in town driving, but do a fair share of hwy too!
@@justinesimone5343 just regular 87 octane. Weather has been constantly in the 20°- low 30° s here in Massachusetts and I’m still getting about 38 mpg with the heat on. I do about 70-75% in town driving. I usually get around 37-40 mpg on the highway. Usually let the radar cruise control do most of the high way driving and it’s fairly good at keeping me at the sweet spot of 37-40 mpg when I’m at 65-70 mph all depending on traffic flow.
Thanks Jeff It Worked 1st try 💯.
I got a 2012 Camry Hybrid in 2022 with 44k miles on it. I now racked 70k miles (oil change every 5k miles due to frequent DD delivery gig) and it still gets avg: 40mpg in the summer, 32mpg in the winter. very reliable!
40 mpg? That sounds pretty low should be 50+
Most of the concern is on the battery, I don't notice anyone ask about the longevity of the hybrid electric motors, are they reliable? How long do you expect them to last? How much do they cost?
Amazing video 👍
