      @@danmacmahon3973 Thanks Dan! That was a monster! About 22 lbs. Shot him in the mid 1990's out of Port Canaveral. He would have been a record but since it was shoot it doesn't count. Cant wait til you make a video about your gun. I'm actually in the process of trying to decide what gun to buy. I have been using a 36 inch biller for about 27 years. I want to move up since I have just stated free shafting. I only use metal guns cause I find them easier to swing in the water.

    Hey Dan, love all your videos and the fact that it's good, honest work with no frills, music or post processing. I think a few of the people who criticize your vids don't fully understand that it's a commercial approach and you're not just shooting 5 gags to bring home.
    I'm a doctor and keen spearo in Perth, Australia, and the depths you dive to continue to astound me. 240 feet?!?! Can I ask if you've ever experienced decompression sickness and how strictly you follow your dive watch and/or safety stops before the surface? I might not have the full picture but even on your super deep dives I don't see a lot of long safety stops and it just amazes me how well the human body can adapt to it over the years!
    Thanks mate

      @danmacmahon3973  Před 4 lety +3

      Linc, I really appreciate your well thought out post. I swear, I do try to make it clear that's it's a commercial spear fishing boat!
      As far as the depths, I do edit out a lot of the ascent and deco time as it's usually boring and I didn't think people would enjoy it.
      I did get a bad case of DCS about 10 years ago but it was entirely my fault. Broke a couple of rules that I'd had in place for years and got punished for it. Nobodys fault but my own, you do stupid things, you risk bad results.
      Happy to say, no residual effects and all's good. Really appreciate your comments.

      @@danmacmahon3973 all good mate. From what I can see, the vast majority of those who leave a bad comment either don't speak English as a first language or aren't the type to delve a bit deeper before they speak. To be fair, I had no idea what in the world you were doing with a machine gun speargun with no line and diving like a suicidal maniac to 240 feet until I watched a few more and went "ohhhh he does this for a living!" 😂😂
      Keep up the great work, stay safe and God bless mate. Hopefully one day I'll be able to make it across the ocean and join you on a trip!

      I'm not sure to be honest. Kevin Bruington developed that muzzle years ago when he was the USA Distributor for Sea Hornet. When he created Ocean Rhino, he quit producing that muzzle. I did have a local machine shop knock out some copies maybe 10 years ago, but that shop's long closed now. I would think any competent shop could CC out a few with minimal effort. I'm surprised somebody doesn't produce and sell them. Best, Dan

      @danmacmahon3973  Před 4 lety +1

      Caji, well I like the long blades with the enclosed heels. Stiffer blades seem to be better when using them with Scuba Gear. One important thing is to properly pick your boot thickness so you can slide your feet into the fins without a lot of effort or time. EX: a 3mm thickness might be too loose and a 7mm thickness might be too tight, but a 5mm would be just right. Best, Dan

    What’s the purpose of killing the amberjack. At that size they are full of worms and aren’t that good to eat anyway. Disposable power heads aren’t needed. You can make the same thing with just a pvc pipe. Place a little epoxy in the end, about 1/4”. The giant hole kills them instantly.

      Paolo, I bet if you ever invested the many years into the required training and did a 80M dive, you'd change your thoughts. Also try to keep an open mind, especially about things you know little or nothing about. Dan

      @@paololupo8627 He uses a spear and is shooting fish . . . . spearfishing . Freediving uses a snorkel and is limited to how far and how long they can go down before needing more air . Those Freediving spearfishermen divers also must take their fish back up right away . If you want to play in the deeper end of the pool you need much more training and certifications , and also different stuff to breathe down there . They do not use oxygen in those tanks . These guys are just doing their job which is selecting certain fish to gather and take back to sell to their supplier , and EVERYTHING must be sold to that Supplier ( he can't keep any of the fish ) . This is not Sport Fishing . . . . . This is done under a Commercial License , and they gather certain fish for others to eat . The supplier sells fish to restaurants so there will be FRESH FISH on the menu when you show up with your family for Supper . These guys select certain types of fish , and Commercial guidelines restricts what size for what species , and also what amounts are allowed under Commercial License . They are normally fishing over 100 miles off-shore , and over 150 feet down , and those snorkel fellas won't or can't get down there .

    Is this spearfishing to you? Check out some videos of apnea spearfishing. Where the spearfisher needs to be skillful phisically, mentally and technically. In the mediterranean sea this dude wouldn t see even one tail.

This is going to the supermarket...fishes are not even scared. Just think that in Many parts of the world it s illegal,too easy. Brrr. 62 down deep is cold when that wetsuit gets compressed thin! Also, do those rounds always come out the other side? I assume they do.

    • @danmacmahon3973
      @danmacmahon3973  Před 4 lety

      Bob, it's funny but if there's a lot of fish around, you don't even notice the temp's. But it's a slow dive, boy do you notice it! The bullet usually will come out the other side but only goes a foot or two farther. Best, Dan
